Whether it's officially called E3 or not, Geoff Keighley will be there in June with a livestream packed full of video game reveals. This year it's Summer Game Fest Live, and the run-up to the show was dampened somewhat as the host himself told us to "manage our expectations". Was our hype better aligned as a result of Keighley's comments? That's what this latest Push Square poll is here to decide.
While the event was mainly focused on already announced titles, there were new reveals for The Last of Us: Part I (even if it was leaked beforehand) and Aliens: Dark Descent.
Then, the likes of The Callisto Protocol, Gotham Knights, and Street Fighter 6 had more gameplay and pieces of information to share. Witchfire even made a comeback!
As always, we want to know whether you thought Summer Game Fest live was any good. Place your vote in our poll and share your full thoughts in the comments below.

Meh it was fine. Just what I expected to be honest. I’d rather have a large Sony showcase.
Get in the bin Keighley. Roasting Troy’s trousers was the most fun I had.
Expectations were low but.......yikes.
@nessisonett Troy's trousers stole the show.
I only caught parts as I was working but it seemed fine, not much of it was for me but still a few I'm interested in. I do wish we could of seen more of TLOU and how much the gameplay has changed.
Unless you’ve never played TLoU, that remake looks like a HUGE waste of money.
Also, we won’t hear about Factions 2 until next year………..really? Such BS.
Everything Sony does now is for the benefit of PC players or brand new players. Just sh*t on us who have been around forever.
So...Kojimas Trailer is pretty much confirmed for the MS Show now and therefore also the rumoured exclusive one
Nope it was overhyped sh*te yet again.
It was pretty much exactly as expected.
It was okay. A lot of cool games but the show itself dragged on way too long, and there were very few surprises (not that Geoff can be blamed for TLOU leaking completely).
That was god awful. And I had no expectations.
Ok, I stayed optimistic and did expect a couple of sizzlers to be dropped but with the exception of the Callisto project there really wasn’t much there for me. Wow. I think even those with low expectations may have come away feeling robbed.
I voted ok but honestly I expected better. Last week's SoP still the best showcase of this summer.
I'll remember it alright for how bad it was lol. Excited to play TMNT in a few days, the rest was a snoozer
It was as awful as expected tbh
Half of the games were horror games and the "big" announcement is a remake of a game that is already playable on PS3, PS4 and PS5 and also it got leaked beforehand
Quite a few of them on gamepass day one like turtles ,nice
Aside from Calisto Protocol, Cuphead DLC, TMNT & TLOU Remake, it was an absolute sh@t show, I should have just gone to bed like I planned to.
It felt like there were way too many shooters on display. Not much for me, but I appreciate the work Geoff puts into the show.
That was pretty terrible. The only thing i was looking forward to was seeing more of one piece odyssey and even that was extremely underwhelming. I think the 1st trailer had more substance
it was not good.
expected a bit more.
That was cheeks. The only thing I got out of it was a handful of release dates or release windows. Super weak sauce. Welp, Devolver and Xbox you're up next.
I thought it was ok considering the state of gaming is in flux right now.
Xbox show will probably be a banger and we can all bank on that Kojima horror being an exclusive now.
I really don't get the point of having some devs on stage if they're barely going to say anything, it's just awkward and a waste of time. This wasn't the first Summer Games Fest and yet, he's barely made any changes to the show, the pacing was awful.
@IonMagi I wasn’t aware Kojima had anything to show for Xbox.
@IonMagi considering the fact that it takes place in world of Death Stranding press X to doubt
People moan there are too many third person games.
I say, really? It seems to me there aren't enough and it's FP games that are the majority.
Yeah, not a great deal that was any good. Callisto at the beginning and The Last of Us at the end. Everything else (with the exception of one or two of the Indies) was really poor or of little interest to me.
Roll on the Xbox showcase, no seriously I mean it. I'm actually looking forward to it.
@nessisonett Troy's capris stole the show!
Only new game announcements that looked great to me were Routine and Neon White. Loved the gameplay trailer for Callisto.
If you’re into sci-fi horror games you have a few things to look forward to. If not, welp…
My favourite bit was The Rock and just how shameless he was
Every single good announcement had a caveat
Callisto and SF6 were showed off a week ago
Neon White and Shredder’s Revenge are dropping the same day
Troy/Ashley being lead roles in the LoU show isn’t game related
Last of Us Part I was leaked
It was bad
@Kingleo31 Not sure how you missed all those rumours since over a year ago about MS publishing his next Game
Excited to play TMNT next week on (redacted) but otherwise was pretty dull.
I wasn't wowed a single moment. Nothing we already didn't know and most were horror, shooters or a combination and those are not my type of games
@DnBSkillz Kojima is just re-using the same actress. Doesnt mean that its connected. If the Trailer leaked it means that the reveal is soon akd there nothing left except for the MS Show
Cuphead, TMNT and Humankind for me. Maybe Midnight Suns. Otherwise a great deal of the games looked really samey. I guess space survival horror is having a moment.
The Rock really tried to promote an energy drink and a movie on GAMES SHOW!?
Too many horror games (which I don't personally care about). Bummed we didn't see Factions. Even without it leaking another re-release of TLoU isn't that exciting.
The dark fantasy shooter game looked kinda cool but seems far off for console still.
I've been enjoying the SF6 trailers but that was just like the first 3 minutes lol
There was some bits I enjoyed. Enjoyed seeing more of Callisto and the MW2 reveal. Replaced looked quite interesting. I feel bad for TLOU leaking just before as the closing thing.
Had thought if Kojima didn't show anything at SGF, given he is good friends with Geoff, it will be shown on Sunday at Xbox's show.
I fell asleep at one point. That's sums it up.
Today’s recipe for making video games: Combine Mediaval Magic Fantasy or Space Sci-Fi with Shooter or Horror.
Such a bad showcase.
Geoff said to lower expectations last night, but jesus this was shocking.
…..have I become the very thing I swore to destory…
Bad show, even with low expectations.
It wasn’t bad for me. Over 30 games covered, I was interested in over a third of them and around half of them coming in 2022 apparently. Not bad as an overview.
However the trailers didn’t hit that hard and it was missing a few bangers or wow moments, especially at the end it needed a big ‘one last thing’. TLOU pt 1 isn’t a finisher and made even worse that it leaked. Whimpered out.
But it wasn’t bad. Enjoyed it, but could have been a lot better too.
Calisto Protocol the standout but I also liked Routine, Flashback 2, Aliens Dark Descent, Fort Solis, Highwater, American Arcadia, Cuphead DLC, Midnight Fight Express, Honkai Starrail, ZZZ, TMNT, The Quarry, Saints Row, W40K Darktide, Gotham Knights and TLoU pt1. A few others are of possible interest.
Honestly I’m appreciative that Geoff does this event for the medium itself but I was half asleep through the show and in my opinion needs to be cut in half.
Haven’t watched it yet, but reading about it looks dismal. I can sort of understand why Geoff, of all people, said temper your expectations.
But there was TMNT….
For me the highlight was the Rock advertising his new movie and some energy drink 😁😁. Seriously though I was very impressed with the graphics and effects in Call of Duty and Calisto Protocol. The creatures in Calisto are missing the waving limbs of Dead Space but the stomp is present and correct. 😀😀
I couldn’t really tell the difference between the two versions of the last of us, seriously had to check the thumbnails - really didn’t need a remake
Goat Simulator 3 clearly was game of show no doubt!
It was alright overall. I've certainly seen worse but ending on TLOU Remake was not a great choice. I would have finished with Calisto Protocol personally but yeah there were some cool indies shown along with America's hero coming to SF6 so I walked away happy.
10 year old games going full price again yay!

Same as all Keighley shows really, needs judicious editing
As expected. Would have been okay if it were all in 40 minutes.
Too many cg trailers, hardly any gameplay.
However, Calysto looked the real deal and had gameplay, and I rather liked the look of whitchfire and the dark tide game.
Together with further info on tlou, this meant the show wasnt a complete write off for me. Just cut the embarrassing stage shuffling and it would have been ok.....
The only thing stopping me from putting this in very poor was tlou remake which I am one of the few people excited for
There was a heavy focus on the big shooter and horror games, which isn't the stuff I'm normally that interested in. So the event was fairly dull for me.
It was okay. I would have liked a big hype moment from it. Show something like God of War at the very end for example would have been that hype moment. Or even a Persona 4 Golden for PS4&5 even would have made it the greatest show
Routine's comeback was a surprise ... so was Witchfire's.
Fort Solis seemed pretty intriguing.
Callisto Protocol's gameplay was brutal and awesome.
And MWII's visual was pretty jaw droppin'
Got to see Nightingale's gameplay as well.
Internet ruined the TLOU Remake surprise.
Overall : Not bad. Pretty good.
Don't know what colossal expectations people were having tbh
Why was every other game a space sci-fi?
Watched the whole thing… except for the 20mins where I literally fell asleep. Despite the strong finale (which was completely spoiled literally two hours before the show had even started) and the awesome Callisto Protocol gameplay, SGF was pretty much exactly what I expected – utter mediocrity. Oh and don’t even get me started on that weird Dwayne Johnson cringe fest!
Best games weren't for playstation xbox have some incredible smaller games coming up
Expectations were at low and somehow it was worse than I thought it was gonna be

I actually enjoyed it and there was a lot of games that I'm looking forward to playing especially as I love Sci fi/Horror games and JRPG's.
Also the last of us part 1 looks amazing so looking forward to playing that again with way better visuals and as a refresher before the tv series
@Ryany the best games shown were all multiplatform, even the ones coming to gamepass are also coming to playstation so......
Also did you not watch the show? If you did then you would do saw the the last of us remake graphics compared to the previous and they are night and day different
@UltimateOtaku91 no planet lara is not coming to playstation there's alot of games that Microsoft have. It doesn't look different enough to charge that price not even close
It's better than the last State of Play at least.
Was okay! We for sure have seen way worse over the years
I came here for the carnage and you guys did not disappoint! I miss E3.....
The format was better than expected. Pretty e3 like. But the games chosen are not great. What is it with horror? Everything is horror. Isn't there enough horror in the real world to watch? If you're a horror fan the show was less bad. So many similar generic mmo shooters... A few games that interested me, but very little otherwise. I was questioning if I actually like video games for a while.
The highlight of the show was a PS3 game for the third time since 2013. Really, what else can you say?
Aside, wtf is Naughty Dog doing? ANOTHER year for the Tlou multiplayer? If you're not a horror/zombie fan and don't like tlou, they've made 1.5 games (uncharted 4, lost legacy) and a movie since, what 2010 [sic] (uncharted 3)? Insomniac has been part of Sony for like 4 years and has their 5th game in production.
Idk what it is but pretty much nothing that was shown did anything for me. A bunch of horror games and a bunch of cgi trailers showing guns getting shot (my eyes glazed over during that COD trailer). Idk, maybe I'm just getting too old and jaded.
Also, who asked for another version of TLOU? I like the series. I don't need to play it again with slightly better graphics. It's about as necessary as a 3D remake of Flashback. Oh wait....
Glad I didn’t stay up for it. Just watched it. I didn’t think it was terrible, just didn’t have anything that wowed me.
For me, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shedders Revenge was the best of the show and we didn’t need to see anymore of that.
We need e3 back that is for sure
Pretty unremarkable for me TBH...
I think what really hurt Game Fest is that (for once!) we had a pretty incredible State-of-Play that was only a week ago.
After being wowed by RE4Make, SF6, Callisto and FFXVI - Game Fest felt incredibly underwhelming.
I never played the original/remaster of TLOU, so will probably buy the remake. But nonetheless it is pretty dissapointing that the 'highlight' of this show is a remake of a game that probably nobody desperately craves? I'd rather have the ND team working on new IPs...!
And also... where are Suckerpunch at?!
Quite poor. Given it has local co-op, I might get the TMNT game to play with the wife. Hopefully it’s balanced for two players and both can get trophies. Not much else appeals really.
@IonMagi also upcoming ps showcase prob in september i find it hard to believe kojima is working on any Xbox game at all especially since his office is literally across from Sony HQ
I think the showcase was fine. Not really any games I was interested in but that's not Geoffs fault.

Was pretty disappointing for myself some of the smaller indies looked interesting but didnt really show much gameplay so hard to tell. This may be one of the worst years for releases for myself the only game I have played that has released this year is Ghostwire Tokyo not much due before the end of the year also.
Really awful. Protip: your grand finale should not be a game that has already leaked and is also just a remake.
I don't think I saw anything remotely interesting, other than more Calisto gameplay.
Sidebar, I think Geoff lucked his way into the position he's in now. He obviously works very hard and cares about games but the guy has zero charisma and his presenting is awful.
He should take a backseat and hire someone to present. Maybe he'd actually manage to get some proper announcements in his shows if his focus moved away
Honestly, it was time waste.
They should include some tech stuff, like what gameplay mechanics we can expect in UE5 (like COD balance physics - reminded me of Uncharted). Devs should experiment more!
I think the state of play took all the shine and glory and they had to deal with the leftovers.
Do people really think Kojima would make an Xbox exclusive game? I mean, he's running a business and Microsoft can surely pay him enough, but surely he knows where his fans are and that would matter to him? I'd expect a multi-platform game. I guess we'll find out eventually. A reveal at the Xbox/Bethesda showcase doesn't automatically mean a game is exclusive.
I've come to realize that people on this site are never pleased.
Now that I’ve seen it, I’d say the State of Play was immensely better.
Hope Fort Solis is coming to consoles, already pre-purchased TMNT on Switch, and getting that Cuphead DLC on Xbox. …and that was all that interested me for right now. Maybe Layers of Fear. Could be interesting in Unreal 5. I’m curious about TLOU multiplayer, but honestly it was not an exciting close to wrap up with Part 1. I don’t care if it reviews a 100 on Metacritic, I’m not buying TLOU 1 again any time soon.
Horror obsession aside, and "popular online shooter" glut aside, I can't help but think that the worst part about the show wasn't the format, or even the games shown, but the poor quality of trailers shown for all of them. Most of them short of Callisto (VERY not a game for me, like, at all, but the presentation was quality), just had terrible, terrible selections of trailers like they scrubbed the first thing that popped up on Youtube and didn't even check if it was a good presentation. Stormgate looked like the most generic possible wannabe-kids-hero game that missed on every mark, until they mentioned it was an RTS by former Blizzard vets, which had nothing to do with the trailer at all. Then it sounded good. Until I realized it was F2P. I don't even want to think of what an F2P RTS would look like.
I'm not a Warhammer fan, or MMO in general, but I know that series is huge and cool in its own way, and that trailer made it seem so soulless. Soul Hackers 2 is a game I'm immensely hyped for, and entirely forgot about so it was a highlight for me, but the trailer was an awkward presentation for the Western VAs that showed nothing of the game, and also really showed little voice acting. I don't think you could get a worse trailer if you tried. COD was a slice of gameplay at least, but it was boring. But it's COD, it's supposed to be boring, that's the point. They showed a trailer of a game from a Polish studio that looked like a dark fantasy but with guns. That's still really all we know. It showed nothing to make it look interesting. How can you make "dark fantasy with guns" uinteresting? IDK, but either the game is generic AF, or the trailer couldn't have been worse.
The most memorable presentations were Naughty Dog because of how, frankly, laughable it was (Neil talking about the movie most of the time, a still from a game that was expected ages ago and the comment they have nothing for at least a year, and an announcement that they'll re-sell the same old PS3 game for more money than ever before in the mean-time. If Eiji Aonuma made the announcement it would feel right at home), Dwayne Johnson talking about IDK even what that was about because it was just jarring, the credit card app commercial in the middle of the show, and the "heavy metal rhythm shooter" because "heavy metal rhythm shooter" sounds like the Doom game we never knew we wanted but need to have. MiYoHo's segment actually made the games look good, but it's a shame, because they aren't. They would be great if they weren't designed around the coin box.
Ok, the show gave us classic TMNT and a heavy metal rhythm shooter, so it wasn't a total loss.
I liked it, but it helps I went in with no expectations of anything BIG being shown off.
All I remember is TLoU remake because it didn't seem like it made a lot of sense.
These shows are pointless unless you show mostly gameplay. I think we got about 2 minutes of gameplay in a 2 hour show. This is why E3 doesn't work as not every developer has gameplay to show all at the same time. Regular State of plays are a much better idea. Even xbox showed a fair bit of gameplay in their show which is a massive improvement over xbox usual showing. Geoff needs to take note of what Sony does and what looks like xbox are starting to do.
