Another Gamescom Opening Night Live has come and gone. Geoff Keighley's two-hour event gave us plenty of updates on existing titles — alongside a handful of surprises — but as always, we want to know what you thought of this year's presentation.
Admittedly, though, the Push Square community hasn't been hot on Geoff's recent shows. More often than not, you lot have been panning the events, bombing them with low ratings in polls just like this one. It's time to find out whether Gamescom suffers the same fate...
So, without further ado, rank Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024 for yourself in our poll, and then don't forget to be brutally honest in the comments section below.
How would you rate Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024? (1,270 votes)

It was good, as expected really.
Indiana Jones coming to PS5 was a great announcement.
Monster Hunter Wilds was the best game for me. It looks amazing.
Very poor.
Wilds saved it.
Too much generic live setvice
It was a wet stack of p##s!
Indiana Jones on PS5 elevates it to Excellent for me. A few other curiosities but not much else for me so without Indy merely Okay!
This was terrible! I knew it would be bad, but not THIS bad!
Terrible at best.
Stinky! Civ VII will be good to see more of, ecstatic about Indy coming to PS5. More Mafia is great too. But this show is a complete disaster, vacuous soulless hype farming by Geoff, the human equivalent of a £300 pair of trainers.
This was the worst gaming presentation I've ever sat through. I felt like the games were scientifically chosen just to maximize my boredom.
It sucked. And Indiana Jones still looks mid.
I’ve wasted i lot of time in my life and never regretted it till today. That was two hours I could have spent staring at my feet or doom scrolling Reddit.
This game with an archaeologist looks promising.
Gotta hand it to Geoff, Gamescom is consistently bad-mediocre every single year! Takes hard work to be that consistent.
Like all Geoff shows, some decent stuff, a lot of forgettable stuff and a lot of time wasted on boring games and promoting the event itself.
Despite my constant efforts to be an optimist and a voice of positivity, this show was utter rubbish. >.>
Can't wait to see the doom and gloom brigade telling it was *****.
Anyway it was solid, lots of release dates for stuff we knew it was coming, some cool smaller games, a couple of surprises.
I was to choose terrible, but mafia 4 upped it to very poor
Pretty lackluster. I appreciate what Geoff is trying to accomplish, but trying to do 3 of these a year is spreading things to thin imo. Id rather have 2 good to great shows than 3 subpar ones every year.
Fighting games as always the best part for me.
Other than that it was a xbox shows with every game I don't care from xbox lol (I'm 50/50 with Indiana, I don't give a damn about Indiana but I like the dev)
Back in 2002 everyone in my neighbourhood was playing GTA 3 and Mafia. Apparently 23-24 years later same thing repeats with GTA 6 and Mafia 4. Great!
I chose poor but I'm excited for Reanimal, Little Nightmares 3, Indiana Jones and Secret Level.
The show was poor though there are some good things to come out of it like Indiana Jones PS5 release window, MH Wilds and Sony's complete absence increasing the chance of a Playstation Showcase happening.
It was today? damn
Indiana Jones and the Great Console.
Absolutely nothing of interest. Glad I didn’t watch it live this time.
Worst show yet and that was with an already low bar.
Nothing from Sony, hopefully we get a showcase. No mention of the pro so there has to be an event soon.
Two hours I can never claim back.
Can I sue them.
My biggest takeaway is "why do they still let Molyneux talk about things everyone knows he'll abandon next week?"
It's events like these that make me question whether modern gaming is even for me these days when not even one game looked remotely appealing or interesting to me.
There were a couple great announcements, but overall it was another pretty lame show in my opinion. Mafia: The Old Country and Indiana Jones coming to PS5 are probably my highlights. Indie wise I’m very excited to see more of Reanimal. Directive 8020 looks awesome as well, but I didn’t actually see it announced while watching the show for some reason but just saw it posted online.
With Indiana Jones coming to PS5 it's a safe bet that so will Elder Scrolls 6, and any other huge budget titles from Bethesda/Activision.
I'm happy knowing Borderlands 4 is coming next year and Monster Hunter Wilds continues to impress, next year is looking decent already.
For the people who like that sort of thing it was a thing people like.
Again there is nothing that looks original or just weird or fun that I like to play.
I'm just glad it didn't have a 20 minute Kojima tribute
Imagine this show would only consist of the top 30-45 min. People would consider it a good or even great show. But it is plagued by mediocre filling stuff. And Geoff earns quite a pile of cash with this filler stuff. Too sad!
Nikki was the highlight for me, everything else was a snoozefest.
Not any better than his last few outings, frankly, with the same games/developers/publishers saving it, too many cashgrab live service games paying/pandering for airtime (if that Cartoon Keighley trailer wasn't written up just to stroke the man's ego, I'd be surprised) and only a handful of genuinely interesting new announcements.
Best live service impression?
MH Wilds.
imo, people who isn't acquainted w/ ZZZ will be just as confused of that teaser at the end ngl.
Jenshin news on Xbox bewildered me.
Overall, only Infinity Nikki and Wilds are already right up my alley.
Glad I didn’t watch it, seemed like a waste of time
Indy and Mafia at the end saved it from being a terrible show, but overall that presentation was not good.
Awful. I can't believe they decided to make a game out of the Borderlands films, and don't get me started on the Godfather adaptation. Also, that redesign of Nathan Drake is terrible
When Dying Light 2 DLC and Starfield DLC are two of the better announcements you know it was bad. Monster Hunter had the best showing in my opinion.
Can't believe the Con Man of Gaming himself was invited on stage. That God game looked cool shame 80% of what we saw won't actually be in the actual game.
A little crusty.
@Athrum Right?! There were several games that piques my interest. People have such absurd expectations today. Though it was a good show.
It was terrible a waste of time
where's Starfield for PS5 annoncement?))
Absolutely pony chod
Gaming is so stale. It just feels like "same old, same old". There feels like nothing new is being created. It just feels like the same games being recycled over and over but with better graphics.
I didn’t even watch it to know it was terrible…
Time to watch the trailers without 2 hours of ads in between.
Total snooze fest in my opinion. Although the clips for Indy may have changed my initial early opinions about the game. All depends on the asking price.
Actually really interested in Secret Levels. Loved the Love, Death and Robot series.
Alright who voted Excellent? April fools is ages away. 😂
That was hard going, ok if you like zombies and shooters and a bit of anime. After Astrobot I don't know what comes next maybe Indy or unknown 9 Awakening.
Really could do with a Playstation showcase now, hoping there's at least something special for next year, early next year!
Boy that was rough.
Come on Tokyo Game Show!
A bit too many CIV-likes and farm games for my liking but hey at least we got Mafia 4 and Indiana Jones.
A lot of debbie downers here. I thought that there were some good announcements made.
Same as always. In online forums and sites like these most of users are bunch of negatives ones. What game you expected to see what wasnt there?
Almost all game list was available prior to show officially, why complain about wastong time watching...
Expectations are so high or you get so old that gaming gets old too and booring...
I'm going to have to accept the fact that these showcases are gonna feature an overwhelming amount of live service nonsense. Which ruins them for probably the rest of all time lol.
Indiana Jones and Mafia saved it from being terrible.
It's very clear a lot of Western gaming companies took a left turn in Albuquerque. How do people keep funding this crap?
There's no choice "i don't watch it".
Didn't watch it(I never watch these things anymore, stopped bothering after E3 2013) so I can't really vote on the quality of the thing but looking at the announcements coming out of Gamescom, it honestly feels like there wasn't any show or such in the first place.
Like, none of the new announcements felt neither exciting nor like they were of interest to me.
🤷♂️
@SuperSilverback I’m sad it didn’t have that. I want that Death Stranding and OD double feature!
Honestly, ONL was pretty eh for me. Lost Records and Indy are the only games from it I’m interested in. I’m starting to wonder what happened to all the games I’m interested in at this point. Where is Pragmata? Where is Judas? No Metal Gear Solid Delta? Man…
It was okay, Indy for ps5 and a new Mafia game, was all I needed to see.
why were people expecting a bunch of ps5 announcements at gamescon ? its not a sony event, there are already rumors of a state of play coming soon.
It was hmmmmmm.....
OK at times and absolutely boring the next.
I mean why spend what felt like 2 hours showing off call of duty? We know what it is. The campaign didn't look any different than the rest.
Then came the other shooters all looking the same.
Nothing really blew me away.
Peter molyneoux back to his old tricks again promising the world and giving us a pinch of reality.
Xbox is officially dead though launching indy on ps5.
I mean it looks OK, but truly do I want a first person indy? The third person parts looked 10x better than the first person.
Honestly can't even remember the rest. Haahaha
Quite liked the look of that amazon prime series though, the rest I've actually already forgotten about.
@somnambulance I love MGS and I liked Death Stranding, but I'd just like it to be kept for a State of Play type of thing if it's gona be like 20ish mins long is all
Objectively, I went with good, as there’s a decent variety of things shown off. But very little for me personally. I might take a closer look at Civ 7, I haven’t played a Civ game since Civ 4.
I can't vote because I didn't watch it or care or even know it was on.
Btw Black Myth Wukong is a real game after all, and it's pretty good.
I thought it was good. Monster hunter... my love. And bl4 announcement....yep. males for good show.
That's a lot of different options just to say "bad". 😂
I only watched it a little bit while I ate lunch but I really just don't know who this show is for. The crowd wasn't into anything I heard. It's such a mishmash of niche stuff plus CoD. Did Hoyoverse need 2 games back to back? The commercial breaks just come and go of more video game trailers. Did he actually give out some awards in the middle, was this an awards show? Geoff is kind of a repetitive 1 trick pony at this point, they could probably put an AI into a manikin and this point and we'd hardly notice.
Seems like a waste of time for a lot of people watching and probably a waste of money for companies paying to line Geoff's pockets when they can just put their own trailers on Youtube.
Never again.
When it comes to gaming, Disney/Marvel/Star Wars, you’re always gonna get mostly negative when you poll people 🤣 it’s wild!
As a show it was shockingly poor, I mean TENCENT winning some madeup Kind to the Enviroment award, I mean really!
Also I've realised, I am just over most modern gaming, I was more interested in games shown in the Pre Show, that Horror Farm Sim, Cairn the climbing game, seemed really cool and at least creative, out of the "Big" games only Sniper Elite and the Dune game got me interested and CIV looked cool as well.
It was ok.🤔.word up son
Geoff Kelly shows are nightmare fuel. This show should be banned by Geneva convention.
@Pushsquarian Jenshin? I think you mean Genshin.
I thought it was fine. 6 out of 10. It had a few interesting trailers on display, like the one for We Harvest Shadows (from the creator of The First Tree) and the one for Reanimal. And the Indy game is looking better. They've definitely tweaked Indy's face design to look closer to Harrison Ford.
The PS5 announcement for Indy was welcome but not surprising to me. The Xbox division of Microsoft is likely in dire need of revenue after all of those studio acquisitions, so putting the new Indy game on PS5 sooner rather than later just makes business sense. (Speaking of which, December 2024 to Spring 2025 is a hilariously short exclusivity period.)
It was the most I know what third parties are making and 2024 games I have no interest in but think about 1-5% are actually good and none I'll play,
Little Nightmatres/Reanimal are cool (happy for people that like them and I think it does horror and platforming/story telling well then generic horror scares/blood/nothing that compelling in them really for me even as a non horror fan but picked up some that were of Zombi U, Splatterhouse, dipped into Fatal Frame but still want more other interesting horror games then typical ones),
Space Marine 2 had an ok Gears looking trailer (already ready for it anyway and beat the 1st game weeks ago now and it was fair so I already know if I want to play it or not and will but can wait)
and Indy was fair.
Oh and a generic looking Donkey Kong clone because platformers aren't less unoriginal enough/inspiration/nostaglia driven that I don't want to play any Indie ones because they are boring, the talent isn't there, the personality is but not any I want to play because the gameplay isn't exciting.
Otherwise a lot of I don't cares, zombie games that need more distinct to them that aren't,
boring multiplayer games with just as much not exciting about them,
multiplayer shooters that still milk the same boring settings/gameplay ideas so why would I play them they all blend together and look boring so I'm playing PS3/360 ones because of the MECHANICS AND SETTING VARIETY
and a lot of ok cozy games that are fair but not my thing.
So to me it shows yet again in 2024/current gen nothing I care for and happy on old gen still and my backlogs. XD Happy with better attempts at shooters, platformers, racing, action adventure and RPGs all suck and playing the older ones on older consoles.
So I'll stick to the handful of tactics (Steam World Heist 2), hack n slashes (if not Gori Cuddly Carnage that's platformer or otherwise), visual novels (mostly older ones at this point not seeked newer ones much), maybe city builders if Two Point Museum isn't a pain to play and handful that are worth it of 2024 if any worth it at all. But otherwise not a lot for 2024 at all of current gen. Mostly getting some from 2022/2023 or 2000s/2010s on old consoles.
Am I the only one to find Master of Albion extremely embarrassing? It's like Peter Molyneux is always putting back the same game ever and ever, with the same 25 years old gameplay and graphics...
It was ok. 2 hours of gaming news in the summer is alright. I am just sad there was no soul reaver. 😔
@B0udoir It's an indie game. 20 people are making it. Give the man a break. He went back to doing what he was good at. Let him have a crack. It looked like it recaptured the spirit of black & white.
I think it was fine but a little disappointing but only because of my own expectations. I was hoping for a Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver collection confirmation (following that strange Soul Reaver I&II HD thing the other week) but I enjoy sitting through these things even if there are games not for me. I love seeing Devs show off their games. I miss E3 and similar events. So I still love watching Gamescom and the Game Awards.
What was new felt old.
I did the sensible thing and didn't watch it.
I went with okay as it was just average. Its concerning when the most interesting trailer was for a TV series at a games show.
EDIT: I forgot about the POE II trailer which is shaping up to be a good game for a team that clearly cares a lot and will likely once again overshadow blizzards efforts with Diablo.
Dear friend @thefourfoldroot1

Just like me...
Why should I waste my time ?
Monster Hunter Wilds trailer was sick.
The rest was okayish I guess.
Never watch it live, just wait for any gameplay trailers later.
I picked Terrible in the poll as there was no option to say no interest.
Geoff the most overrated media person in the whole gaming industry.
