Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion released on PS5 and PS4 about a week ago now, and it feels like Zack Fair has enjoyed a fairly positive return. We've seen a lot of people saying that this is their first time experiencing Crisis Core — originally a 2007 PSP title — and with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth coming up next year (if it isn't inevitably delayed!) it's nice to see Square Enix keep the hype rolling.
We enjoyed Crisis Core back in the day, and we enjoyed it again through Reunion. Our 7/10 review concludes: "Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is a top tier remaster of a flawed and often comically awkward spinoff. But for all of its angsty melodrama, the story of Zack Fair is an endearingly daft tale that only adds to the world of Final Fantasy VII. It's hard not to enjoy the blatant fan service and completely over-the-top cinematics, while the overhauled combat system is infinitely better than it once was. A worthy second chance."

I'm not playing this yet as waiting for them to release all parts of the 7 remake first. Doesn't make sense for me to play a spin off until then.
Looking forward to XVI.
@Kuromiano so then essentially your score doesn’t matter.
@Kuromiano I'll give it a 10 just for you.
A 8 out of 10 word up son
Postal strike out of 10. Will reassess once it arrives 😭
Gave it a 9. Went into it assuming a solid 7, but it's well exceeded my expectations. It's just so damn fun to play.
@Kuromiano … and that’s the magic numbaaaaaarrrrrrr 🎼
Ive got it but intend to do a run of FFVII first.
8. It really hooked me. Although I found it annoying that your mission completion didn’t carry over to New Game +, so when I started again I lost all my mission progress and gave up on trying to get more trophies.
8, it's pretty awesome, but definitely some of that JRPG cringe. Just a beautiful remake though.
I only played the PSP versions, I'd say that was a 7 so this surely is 8 or above.
Does anybody know if this one also caps at 9999 damage? Hated that in the PSP game.
8 for me. Just beat it last night, but I made the mistake of playing it through on hard. Had to switch to normal on the last mission.
Saving it for Christmas.
I got the themed PSP bundle when it came out, but got annoyed by the random slot combat that nixed any kind of personal skill. Have they fixed that?

@Sil_Am there is an item that raises the damage-cap up to 99.999
@Kuromiano Is there a story behind that or you just getting into the Grinch spirit. Feels like there's some "this is why we should all band together and hate it" backstory that I'm missing. I just got it a few days ago. Only had time to finish the prologue and got killed on first mission. I'm hoping to get back to it soon, but holidays are using up all my free time. So, I got a little of the bah humbug myself.
@Kuromiano I feel like it's almost a did you own a PSP, or not, kind of game. Since it seems it's also one of those almost nostalgia driven purchase. Had I not owned a PS1 and played FFVII, I doubt I'd have gotten the remake.
@Kuromiano then why comment at all? I mean why score a game you have no intention of playing? Grow up
The original is one of my favourite games of all time. Got this sitting under the tree, so will have to wait before I get stuck in.
For some reason I’ve become very excited to give this a shot. I think I’m going to try to pick it up this week!
this game should have been multiplatform.
@Kuromiano your the problem with reviews. whats your problem?? if your not gonna play it then go away no need for your review or comment. your opinion doesn't matter then as you blatantly said your not gonna play it.
My favorite game on PSP, i'll wait for a sale though. Maybe its a game better played via remote play on tablet or portable
I gave it a 9 but I might be biased. There is just something about the world and characters of FFVII that i love and cherish.
@doowoobieguy It is. It’s available on everything.
@Cyberpsycho from what I gather, this game takes place before 7 so it makes sense to play it now.
@Elodin yes it does take place before 7 but being so it spoils what is still going to happen in 7 remake if you don't know the story of the og
having played it the first time after og 7 it was expanding on the story bits you've learned when you played 7
True, I grew up on original so missed the spoilers a bit
@Cyberpsycho Crisis Core FF7 Reunion is just a prequel to the original FF7 game, it doesn't reference the Remake storyline/universe at all.
People have uploaded playthroughs of the entire game on YouTube and there are no new cutscenes, endings, or different bosses etc.
@KidBoruto well that's only because in the remake Zack only just appeared, the story bits depicted in CC will only happen in either Rebirth or the 3rd game, difficult to tell how far will the story of Rebirth go
Had it on PSP and it was average. Just because it has FF in character and title does not means it's a good game.
I grabbed it on Steam. It's still just okay. I refunded it as it was far to repetitive. It's a good remaster but it's not a great game.
@Cyberpsycho there'll have been 2 more generations of console by then and you wont even be able to play it lol
@fez I'd love to see Zack show up in the new Remake timeline.
It may not look like a PSP game necessarily but it definitely still feels like one. From the hallway-like level design to the repetitive mission structure I just don't think this remaster holds up very well at all. And thats not to mention the extremely cringe dialogue. I'm sure someone who grew up playing the original will enjoy this remaster but as a newcomer I didn't get much out of it. 6/10
