It took some time, but God of War Ragnarok is here, and we think it's glorious. Sony's latest blockbuster was awarded an exceedingly rare Push Square 10/10 in our full God of War Ragnarok PS5 review, and the title commands one of the highest overall Metacritic scores of the last few years. It's fair to say that it's been a critical hit.
And it's set to be a commercial juggernaut, too. Initial sales data suggests that it'll be one of the best-selling games of 2022 already, and this is especially true in the UK, where boxed sales alone have given Ragnarok the best launch of any God of War title.
But we're not hear to compare numbers — we're here to ask you what review score you would give God of War Ragnarok. The game's been out for a full week now, so if you're ready to rate it, go ahead and vote in our poll, and then explain yourself in the comments section below.

In the words of Nigel Tufnel “This one goes to eleven”.
10 easily. I was at a 9 for the first few hours but i'm at a point now where its easily a 10.
I would say 8.5/10
The story was fantastic and improved upon the characters and overall message from the first game.
The realms felt a bit large especially after you finish part of the story going all the way to the end of a relam and then going all the way back. Granted, in some cases going back felt different with some additional boss battles, but that made the game feel a bit long.
Also, maybe this is just me, but I found the puzzles to be a bit complex. I think it would be nice to have an accessibility option "skip to solution".
Lastly the UI confused me a bit with all the new menus and I kept forgetting to equip amulets.
Overall, I had fun with this and will go back and play some side content. A game of the year contender for me.
Haven't had the chance to really start it yet. Literally all I've seen is the opening slay ride and that is it. I finished Sonic and then came down with something so I've been under the weather since but hopefully I'll start it sooner or later.
I have a weird relationship with the franchise. Surprisingly, my biggest issue with it is the combat of all things. I think it looks cool and spectacular but for some reason I don't like "playing" it. Can't quite put my finger on it why. I gave it a 8 in the poll though. The story and presentation are absolutely out of this world. A little too much chatting for my liking although it was usually story or lore-related and I think the crafting is overdone. All in all, I don't put it on a pedestal like most but I still think it's a great game and I definitely like it quite a bit more than 2018.
Well as I’m stuck on the reckoning quest due to a game breaking bug I’m not very happy right now. If they fix it quickly then a 10 for sure but it’s as much use as a chocolate fireguard right now 😡
@Kairu for you at least but not for everyone else
Not finished it yet so won't score it but SO FAR an easy 9/10.
Time will tell if it nails the landing and gets a 10 or drops back.
But it would really have to balls it up in the back half to drop down, it oozes quality from every pore. Best BALANCE of gameplay, story, world design, graphics, music, voice acting etc. i've seen - it just doesn't seem to have a weaker aspect, which allows you to forgive it's minor flaws more easily.
Plus most reviews seemed to suggest it got better as it went on and really stuck the landing. Likely a 9 or 10.
I'd say 7.5 based on Push Square's metrics, so far. An 8 feels more appropriate, but I don't think it's great overall. Very, very good though.
I reckon I must be about halfway through the story. Just reached the point where I can push down on the D-pad and it's most likely a 10 unless the story takes a nose dive. Been playing for 30 hours, the side content is superb and exploration and traversal are lots of fun in comparison to the last entry!
Only just got to the first real realm.
Delayed my start for new TV and Dolby Atmos sound system set up.
Anyone in the market for a new tv, once adjusted and set the LG C2 is dam amazing for TV, movies and gaming of course.
But so far I’m going a 9/10.
Amazing game that has me hooked.
9.5 one of the best games I've played only thing didn't like was the puzzles had me scratching my head a few times.Other than that fantastic brilliant story awesome combat Goty so far for me.
7/10 doesn't really do enough differently from gow 2018 imo from what I've played though only about 15 hours in . Like practically the same game
I haven't completed it yet, Im only 5 hours into the game and it's a great time the only issue I have with it is that it has way too much hand holding like it was made for a 5 year old. Atreus shut up and let me figure out the puzzle.
If this game doesn't get a 10, then no game deserves a 10
And some voted it a 3 🙃
Haven't finished it yet but it's absolutely a 10 so far
10 hours in. And 10 is the score.
A masterpiece in gaming.
I only have 1 or two gripes with it...1 of them is pretty annoying but I still think it's a 10
It's ok, it's no 10 but I gave it a good 7.
Unskippable cutscenes though, dear heavens.
10 easily.
I came in with high expectations... but wow. It met and blew pass that early on. Right now jumping to the top of the list. See how it ends.
Absolutely perfect so far. I stayed up playing it till 6am the last couple of days, as I just kept thinking 'ok ill clear one more area or I'll just finish this side quest. I can't think of the last time I did that.
Best of all there is so little bloat. Everything feels like it matters- feels big. The side quest are so incredibly well done.
Okay, who’s given this game a 3..?? 😂
I’m only 8hrs in and it’s feeling like a 10 all day long. I’ll vote once I’ve finished it. If this poll is still relevant then. I’m planning on taking my sweet time with Ragnarok.
Tough to give a game a 10 when it is just a better version of GoW (2018). It didn't redo GoW like 2018's did. Same gameplay and then some in the sequel. More world building, more story, but it doesn't reinvent the wheel like the previous. The jump between the two isn't far enough apart for me to put one over the other.
GoW 2018 - 10/10
GoW Ragnarok - 9.5/10
3/4 done and it is GOTY.
Love it more than the 2018 game and I haven't pulled an all nighter playing a game since my teen years. I lost track of time.
A 10 out of 10.god of war ragnarok is easily one of the best games ever made.both god of war games.2018 and god of war ragnarok are the g.o.a.t 🐐 👑 in video games.word up son
@colonelkilgore respect 👍
Its a solid 10 for me..
Come on ,own up ,who gave it 5/10 😂
@Fight_Teza_Fight Best of all there is so little bloat
I read that as 'Best of all, there is a little boat'. I was like, yeah, that was in 2018, too! 😂😂
Have people finished it already? It'll be a while before I do and could give a score. Same goes for The Game Awards, I wouldn't vote for something I haven't finished.
I haven't finished it yet so I'm going to abstain from voting but so far this game is an easy 9/10. The kind of quality I expect from a Sony 1st party game. After Horizon Forbidden West I almost forgot why I even own a Playstation over say an Xbox but GoW has reminded me. This is Playstation Studios putting their best foot forward
Not since RDR2 have I felt a game is a masterpiece while annoyed with so many little things. Map and general UI, getting hints to puzzles without asking, very random health drops etc. But after finishing the game a couple days ago it is absolutely deserving of a 10/10
8/10 after beating it. Great game!
Ratchet and Clank is still the definitive PS5 experience for me.
I haven't played it but 10/10 judging from 2018 alone. It shouldn't be hard to give games a 10, game development has evolved, a lot of great games out there.
@Jayslow no game beats RDR2 though. I mean even with 1 mixed 7/10 rating it still stands strong at 97 on MC. GoWR has no mixed rating.
Barely started with it (got the priority to finish Sonic first, and I’ll be honest, I’m going to put it and Sonic on hiatus for Pokémon), but I’m feeling an 8/10 with it so far. I mean, it’s all around solid gameplay-wise and an impressive cinematic title, but I just have never really gotten an attachment to the series and I still feel the same. It’s that simple for me, really. GoW 2018 was an 8/10 for me too.
10/10 from me. People have different tastes in gaming, and I can understand not everybody will judge it like I do. But man, it's fun and immersive. Small detail, like having to pull back your axe manually makes so much difference, and makes both GOW reboot games mechanics so engaging.
Easy 10. Especially when you see some of the 8’s and 9’s that get handed out on the internet these days.
Good stuff! 8.5/10 after finishing it. Enjoyed it quite a bit more than GoW 2018. Surprisingly so since it was very similar overall.
@JudgeDredd Your wife is correct 👍
@JudgeDredd I’d imagine you are the expert when the discussion is Snowrunner 😉
9.5, enjoyed 2018 more but this is still an almost flawless video game imo👍🏾
9/10 i dont think any game is a 10. anything can be improved.
it pips ER in every department imo.
@johnny30 yeah I can’t agree with that it does quite a bit new with the combat, the traversal has been smoothed out in places and the puzzles have been refined and expanded
@charbtronic so you just described a sequel besides the combat has def been improved and expanded as well as the puzzles and traversal so it does plenty new.
@Dezzy70 I just got a LG C2 (65") as well. Absolute game changer in all departments.
I give it a 10 easily and it’s my goty. The expanded and refined combat, the refined traversal, the new wrinkles in the puzzles that are always just the right amount of difficult to make you feel good when you solve them, the ridiculous production values and art design, the story and characters etc are just top of class. The game has minor flaws but nothing that would make me lower my score it’s a title that reminds me why I love gaming and an experience you only get once maybe twice a generation if you’re lucky. My top three for the year are GOW,HFW and Elden just great games all three of them.
Over 20hrs in and it's the game of the year.
Like why is Stray even on the list? 😂
@Anke Who wants a story in their game, am I right? 😂
@Kalvort Not the most beloved PS5 game for most but my God do I love that franchise. Definitely want to replay it soon.
Not finished yet but so far it just gets better and better. Wasn't too enamoured for the first half, now I don't want it to end.
Does the person who gave it a 1 want to sell me their copy for £20?
9 for me after slogging through one of the mid game parts. It just never felt like it would end.
I gave it a 1 because THIS IS ENGLAND BABY!!!
I feel like I’m getting close to the end. And oh boy, this game beat all and any expectations. I held off on playing GoW (2018) until last week, finished that in 5 days then went out & bought Ragnarok. I rarely buy games at launch so this was an impulse buy. Because of this, I got to compare both to one another pretty well. And honestly- GOWR is Andy an ideal sequel should be. The combat is silky smooth AT LAUNCH!!!! How many articles do you read of games bugging out at release? A lot! The side quests feel more like main quests (besides from the spirits quests. Those almost always feel like needless filler).
The characters are so developed and interesting. Kratos’s growth as a father is heartwarming. They beautifully wrote his and Atreus’s relationship. Sindri & Brok now don’t feel like just blacksmiths who upgrade gear & weapons but actually developed & awesome characters. And finally, the story is so craftily weaved. There are many tiny details from the 2018 game that are addressed here. I don’t want to spoil anything though.
Overall, I’m loving it. Couldn’t be happier with my experience!!
Gave it a 6 in honour of that Korean reviewer. Rest in Twitter peace
I gave it a 9,.would have been a 10 if not for that god awful chapter 5....
@AmanK_Art Check the accessibility custom options. There actually is an option to auto solve puzzles. The customization of games like this and Control are the way it should be done.
@Uromastryx that’s one of the best chapters
@The_Pixel_King Well that’s great too. Sometimes I’ll wait for Mimir & other characters to finish their story first, before I get off😂
@dark_knightmare2 with her riding around on that giant ram thing etc?
I gave it a 9, but really it's a 9.5. Between it and Elden Ring, I could be convinced either way which one is better.
Game is excellent overall. The two major issues are that it is clearly held back by the PS4 and the game handholds you so much during the main story puzzles. The latter problem can be easily fixed with a patch. I absolutely adored upper Vanaheim and thought it was the highlight of the game, but apparently some other people disagree with that sentiment. Similarly controversially, I really liked the "localization" choices made, especially with Odin and Thor. These Norse Gods are supposed to sound like intoxicated jerks, not pseudo-Shakespearean actors. The voice acting conveyed that.
The story is simultaneously more interesting and less artistic than God of War (2018). I definitely loved the commitment of 2018, but I found its story meandering and underwhelming at the end. Ragnarok started off incredibly slow, but just constantly got better and better. It was very satisfying and I loved Kratos' character arc over the course of the entire series.
10/10, don't even have to think about it. So far, it's even better than God of War 2018 which was my Game of the Year pick back then and my favorite PS4 exclusive. Haven't beat the game yet, but my guess is by the end it'll my favorite game on either current gen console, it's awesome and one of the best Holiday season games Sony has released in a long while.
Haven’t finished it yet, but I would have to go with a 10, being honest here, its the game i buy a PS console for. I am more of a Xbox and PC guy, even tho i have had every PS and Nintendo console, i game all my 3rd party titles on xbox and PC. So with Nintendo and PS being a exclusives machine, i can’t not be in love with God of War and Horizon, looking forward to more Sony titles that are just top notch. Theres no game this Christmas coming out on any platform better made and polish than GOWR. Color me impressed yet again Sony.
I'd give it 11 out of 10 if ya had included that option
@Milomaine
Well done mine 65” as well. Amazing TV.
Also would recommend a sound system or very good sound bar with dedicated subwoofer and rear speakers.
Another game changer in the sound department.
Still too early for me to say. Have been amazing so far, then I came to the Lost Sanctuary quest which for me is a drag. I hope there won’t be many more of these quests.
Not finished it yet just taking my time with it. About 20 hours in always doing everything possible on the maps before moving on to main story. Easily a 10 for me so far as it just seems to get better and better the more i progress. It's one of those games when the story is finished I can't wait to go back to all the maps to 100% each one
Not finished it yet but 45 hours in & so far it gets a 10
@Uromastryx yeah I like that whole chapter with the lore, dialogue etc.
8 - I think it's an amazing game, but it's lacking something that I can't quite put my finger on.
The first 3-4 hours are a 9. Beyond that it's a 10.
playing on the 5 with the LG C1 have not completed the game yet but i give it a 10 myself has to be the most realistic looking game i have played ever best looking game easy it does not look like a video game in graphics cartoony looking looks real imo. you cannot just pick the game up and play for just 30 minutes you are going to want to play a couple of hours at least 2hours at a time.
I'm almost 50 hours in, and I'd say a 9 or 10. I picked 9, but it could go either way.
Mainly due to the camera being a bit fussy sometimes, most of the AI callouts being useless, and the optional Vanaheim area, although being a cool surprise, feeling a little half baked and kind of a pain to navigate, and the side content being little more on the filler side, with a few stand out quests. One side quest, in Alpheim, in particular starts great, but then after it concludes feels like it goes nowhere, and that's disappointing.
10 out of 10s for me, or perspective changing games that gets me to think about games a different way while still being fun, nice to look at, and puts up an engaging challenge (whether that be a gameplay or story challenge).
It comes close, but doesn't quite get me to shift my perspective on gamez. Still, it's amazing, a GOTY contender for sure, and these 50 hours have been as enjoyable as Elden Ring for me.
Just started playing today
@Constable_What yeah i want to be able to use the camera to see behind me when im attacking forward and the changed the quik turn control input method is not as good as in 2018 version
This game was great in 2018 (not amazing) and is merely good in this 2022 post Elden Ring world. It’s basically just a huge DLC/expansion for the 2018 game. I expected more.
@doctommaso post Elden ring world lol give me a break. Elden ring didn’t do anything botw didn’t already do five years ago. It’s a great game but it’s dark souls 4 in a open world with a jump button,a bad back half, worst bosses in a fromsoft game and entirely too much filler. Also funny trying to act like Ragnarok is dlc to prop up your favorite game when one that isn’t true and two please name me the dlc that is the size of Ragnarok and as great please I’ll wait.
@Yoop did you remap quick turn to down swipe on touchpad it’s great
@Constable_What i would never say the content in Ragnarok is filler
7 or 8. I'd give the last game a 10 but this has issues with the main story and some battles being too hectic for the camera and the weapon switching mechanics. There is also way too much of the last game mindlessly cloned into this one. The new weapon is great though.
Currently Elden Ring is still GOTY for me. I'm hoping The Callisto Protocol takes that crown.
@SolaceCreed maybe because it’s not lacking something 😉
@Dezzy70
That was a bit out of my price unfortunately.
I ended up with a Sony X90K 55inch. Best Buy had them here in the states for 899.99.
Only reason I had to buy one is that my old trusty TCL decided it wanted its backlight controller board to die late last night. So I guess it worked out for me because better to die now during sale prices versus early next year when they are all back to regular price.
I considered a C2 48” (they were there for about 1100 bucks) but I would have had to downsize versus my old TV and the 55 inch version was just out of my price range. Decided to go with another LED.
That said, this X90K is an enormous upgrade over my old 2017 TCL set. I’m finally getting to try that crazy 40hz mode in some of my games as well as playing MW2 at 120hz. I’m super impressed by it so far and the picture quality blows my old TCL out of the water, even if an OLED would have been even better.
To add, the “perfect for PS5” label actually meant something. The auto settings the Tv applied the second I plugged my PS5 into it are surprisingly good. I haven’t had to mess with it so far. Outside of the TV forcing you to enable VRR manually in the HDMI settings. Wish that part would have been automated but other than it’s a surprisingly good TV set especially at the sale price if you were in a situation like me and the OLED equivalent was just out of affordability range.
@Nexozi true but some of us have memory issues so it's pointless, I can't remember very well so I'm sitting through something for nothing.
9 for: - being last gen and unable to fully utilize the new gen hardware, - the companions showing you step by step how to solve puzzles and spoiling them for you, they wouldn't shut up no matter what, there is no option to turn it off and you lose the feeling of accomplishment after solving a puzzle.
@dark_knightmare2 48 Ravens, Tears, and talking to most of the ghosts for side quests has me very much disagreeing with you, but to each their own.
@Constable_What the ravens have a really nice armor set and some lore so I don’t count that as filler, there’s only 6 tears if you’re referring to the dragur holes and the ghost aren’t as deep as the companion sidequests but they are still worth doing. Idk filler in my mind is something like chasing pages in a ac game or the dozen upon dozens of copy pasted chalice wannabe dungeons in elden ring with the same bosses at the end except sometimes there will be two with most of the time a crap reward for doing so.
@dark_knightmare2 like I said, that content doesn't really do it for me. Especially in the second Vanaheim zone that's kind of a pain to navigate.
@Constable_What that’s fine it’s no big deal if you didn’t get on with those. I was just saying I have a different opinion of filler like the examples I named where there’s no worthwhile reward or narrative justification and they are repeated dozens and dozens of times
@dark_knightmare2 I mean the ravens in particular do give you an armor set, but it's not nearly as good as the dragon set I used or the last set in the story you get (playing on Give me God of War), a lot of the side quests just give you crafting materials that are pretty worthless, or runes that barely do anything.
It's definitely filler to me.
I gave it a 9. Definitely my game of the year (Grounded over on Xbox is my runner up). I thought they really stuck the landing with the story. I didn’t give it a 10 because I think it did have some pacing issues. I definitely felt some sequences dragged on a bit too long (you know which ones I’m talking about). And the issue that people are talking about with companions revealing solutions to the puzzles is definitely an issue. That said, the combat and story are so great that the issues seem minor in comparison. What a fantastic game.
@dark_knightmare2 Oh my gosh, man — relax; this is an opinion about a game, not a personal attack.
Anyone objective can see that Elden Ring is a huge step forward for the Souls-type genre. I actually think your BotW comparison is a pretty good analogy for Elden Ring, because BotW did for Zelda what ER did for Dark Souls. Also, no one is saying BotW was not an influence on ER (but you can clearly see Souls influences on BotW, as well). This doesn't change the fundamental fact that GoWR is iterative in nearly all respects and feels exactly like a (huge, quality) DLC add-on to the 2018 game — again, I think anyone objective will admit that. I think many people wanted just that, but I expected more.
Having played Elden Ring rather recently, the faux-open level design of the GoW games becomes incredibly obvious and feels like dodging an obstacle course to get to my goal, rather than exploration. Similarly, I can't get invested or drawn into its world, partially because of acting that sounds like reading off of a script but more so constant annoying interruptions regarding puzzles or telling me what to do — a step backward from the 2018 GoW and again much more obvious after playing ER, which is massively open and extremely hands-off.
And I'm sorry, you will never win an argument with me about ER's quality. For one, I completely disagree about ER having a bad latter half, especially compared to some of the prior Souls titles. Regarding the bosses, if you look at the primary bosses (not all the small dungeon bosses, etc.), I think you are dead wrong. As for filler, I spent 340 hours in the game over a couple runs and due to helping others beat end-game bosses numerous times, and I never felt like I was bored — not for an instant. Comparatively, I was bored in GoWR after the first 3 or 4 hours (the first 1.5 hours are epic, however, to give credit where it is due). I've pushed through GoWR to justify the $70 spent and to give it a fair chance, out of respect for the fact that so many people feel it's such an amazing game.
I'm sorry you feel so personally hurt by someone criticizing GoWR, but you need to allow for different opinions and to be able to take an objective look at a game's positives and negatives.
I'll leave the discussion here and have no interest in reading further rather aggressive responses from you.
Right now, I’m 15 hours in — just finished two areas playing as a certain character — (trying to avoid giving spoilers away) and I’d say the game is an easy 9. At the end of one of those parts, my jaw was on the floor because of how epic it was. If it continues at this pace, the game will be a 10. I do have a few gripes; mainly the compass, but that’s not enough to deter an otherwise phenomenal game.
On a side note - I was actually getting concerned that there were bugs preventing the game unlocking trophies because I hadn’t unlocked one in a VERY long time. There were several instances where I genuinely thought, “Surely a trophy is going to unlock now that I completed this story moment” and it never did. However, 30 minutes ago I finally unlocked two trophies back to back and I was finally relieved. It’s a weird complaint, but the trophy pacing is not great at all.
@doctommaso my dude where do I act in any way hurt I just took umbrage with your post Elden ring world comment which I feel is hyperbole. It’s cool you liked elden ring so much to put 340 hours into it heck i got the plat and it’s my third favorite game this year but the back half being bad is a common criticism as well as the bosses being among some of fromsoft worse especially the final boss which is just bad and at the fifty hour mark I was tired of the same filler across the open world and the combat isn’t nowhere deep enough for the hundred plus hours it took for me to beat it. Your comment about GOW feeling like reading off a script is weird when it’s dialogue is some of the most naturally delivered and acted in gaming and it’s been rightly praised for that and exploring in that game is always worth it because of getting some more story, lore, armor or new attacks. I hope fromsoft goes back to a connected map for their next time because the quality was way better and more consistent imo in something like Bloodborne,Dark souls 1&3 and Sekiro compared to Elden.
@Constable_What like I said that’s fine if that’s what you classify filler as but by definition it’s just not and the meaty sidequests are always worth it because of the characters, stories and rewards. I mean tons of players and critics have compared their quality to Witcher 3 for a reason.
@dark_knightmare2 I'd also compare it to the Witcher 3, and that game also had its share of filler side content.
Filler content by definition is not for you to define by the way, it's perfectly fine if you feel differently. It's subjective for sure.
I could do without 48 ravens and trapsing around Vanaheim for next to nothing, and for the ghosts to tell me pretty much the same things the last ghost told me. It didn't add much substance. There are still plenty of good side quests, but some of them I definitely felt were filler.
Ragnarok is still a fantastic game, and a GOTY contender for sure. Either this or Elden Ring are my picks for it. Can't decide which game I like more.
@Constable_What oh i def agree that it ultimately is going to come down to GOW and Elden Ring for goty. I give the nod to GOW because the story and sidequest were better as well as combat imo and it had way less filler than Elden plus no technical issues which is rare in gaming today. It was a really great year for gaming and GOW,HFW and Elden were my top three games this year and all delivered for me and that’s not even mentioning all the other great games both big and small like Stray,Sifu,Sonic Frontiers,Return to Monkey Island,COD MW 2 etc with some still to come like the Callisto Protocol,The Devil in Me,Evil West and Midnight Suns.
@BRUTALSAM I swear my game must have been broke in a good way because other than one time them giving me a hint I never had a puzzle spoiled and my brother said the same and Im weird and walk when it makes sense to so they have plenty of time to do so. I remember being in the mines of svartleheim and reaching one of the water wheel puzzles and was stumped for a few mins wishing they would give me a hint before I finally solved it on my own.
@dark_knightmare2 Right? It's a pretty damn great year. I keep hearing people say it's a bad year or a mediocre year, and I am left just scratching my head. There was always something really good to play from either a AAA or an indie.
I have a lot of similar gripes with Ragnarok and Elden Ring, but I love them for different reasons. Well, I'm off to do the Sisters tombstone fight (laziest and worst fight in the game by far, and that's saying something after the 7 of these stupid fights I've done.)
Removed - offensive remarks
@doctommaso please provide an example of a comparable DLC/Expansion.
I haven't finished the game yet, so i don't think i should rate it, but all i can say for now is that it's an amazing game, i enjoy playing it a lot so far.
deserves nothing less than 10/10
10/10, easy GOTY.
Sorry ER fans, that game is alright but it has nothing on this one
0/10 didnt play this one didnt play 2018s god of war.
Personally I give it a 5 - completely mediocre and a rather disappointing sequel. Combat hasn't been improved and still has the same issues that it had in the previous game, making it a chore to play.
The story was a major disappointment to me as well. There are no doubt some incredible scenes in it, but IMO they don't make up for the bad decisions made by Kratos and Atreus throughout the game.
In my eyes, it's definitely the worst in the series.
@naruball There is no comparable DLC/Expansion I am aware of. That doesn't change that the game still feels like a large well-done DLC/Expansion.
I'm only 10 hours in, so it's an 8, but this could change when I'm done. So far its' been extremely on rail and after spending 100 hours in Valhalla recently, it seems so weird not being able to access more of the lovely areas in this game. Surely a big man like Kratos should be able to climb up and drop down small ledges, but for the most part so far, no.
Also the RPG systems as noted in the review should at least hold this title back at a 9.5 imo.
I refrain from voting because I’m not done with it yet. So far I’m 10 hrs in and I’d say 8/10. So far it feels like DLC.
I do have a side gripe with it. The game is unplayable in performance mode. Screen goes black and won’t display. It’s not my TV. My 4K 240hz TV has had no issues with any game in any combination of highest resolution, hdr, and or performance mode.
I have to turn the resolution down, hdr off, and favor quality to get it to play and it still flickers a black screen every now and then.
I would hover between 9 and 10. It's not a slam dunk 10, I don't think. But it probably does enough. It's no less than a great game. Pretty similar to God of War 2018 but I would argue that the best bits of Ragnarok go harder than that, and the highs are higher, and the lows so infrequent as to not really matter.
Its brilliant and I'm loving it.
But its definitely a PS4 game in design and execution and not a current gen game.
However, its an utterly excellent PS4 game and well worth the 10/10 I'd give it. Deserves to be a GOTY contender, but for me, its definitely trumped by Elden Ring. ER is doing something new, this game is not. Its doing what we've seen before but doing it superbly.
Imagine what these guys will do when they make a PS5 only title....
The best action/adventure game by a mile but as the first game was so good it does not stand out as fresh , kind of a downfall of being that good.
It's a 9 or 10 depending on how you see it. It's a masterclass in its design and application and I am pleased it followed on the ground foundation of the 2018 game.
Price is wrong though and disgusting. No game should be £60 plus.
I paid £39 for Sonic frontiers on PC (best version) it's £50 on PS5....
Even multiplatform games are more expensive on PS5 for generally a weaker game experience.

It's too handholdy to be a 10 out of 10, but it is a good game when the characters aren't telling you exactly what to do next if you wait for a few seconds.
9/10 for me so far, mainly just started the game. But know its going to be a banger, it definitely keeps you glued to the screen. not for the action but the story telling and the characters. Some of my favourite moments from the newest games is the interactions, between Kratos and the rest of the cast. I reckon by the end of my playthrough it will be a 10/10 for sure.
I would happily have given this a 10, were it not for the fact that when faced with a puzzle, or whilst trying to work out how to get somewhere, your companion points out the solution in arou8nd 10 seconds, and before you've even had the slightest chance to work it out for yourself. The handholding in this game is frankly ridiculous. I would much preferred to have been able to either moderate this in the settings, or (if stuck) simply turn to my companion and ask their advice.
Fantastic game, marred by this one feature...
Got bored on the extended yak level but now 25 hours in I may have seen the last of the yak. Other than that it's a solid nine. I've never played a 10. I don't want to, because once I do it means nothing can beat it.
I'm not super far in yet, but at the moment I would say a 9 out of 10. I'm not a fan of Atreus in this game, compared to GoW 2018. But, everything else, including Kratos, is great.
is it better then it predecessor?
I give it a big 8! Great presentation but the game is so easy that there's very little tension or excitement for me. Plus it seems like there's about 5 minutes of talking for every five minutes of action. All that put together makes it feel more like watching an interactive movie than playing a super engaging game. Not even close to my game of the year- Elden Ring!
Okay so I've just finished it & that ending knocked it up to an 11 this is truly a masterpiece & honestly my new favourite game of all time everyone involved in making this should be proud
Masterpiece didn't want it to end. 11
N/A, I'm still playing the game so can't give an opinion yet.
@Korgon you have a long journey :')
9 on PS4, 8 on PS5.
Expected way more from PS5, but little to no difference in comparison to way less powerful PS4.
I love it and I'm glad it's finally here, but I don't feel like it's an improvement on the last one. More like a better and worse continuation.
For me a 10 should be doing something new or revolutionary, or just be very very good. This isn't doing either I'm afraid. Good game, but more of the same. A solid 8 for me.
@KaijuKaiser because they are getting far more out of the system, that's why.
Also, regarding Troll.... Check my PS username Jeff__D_ to see that I've played them.
There’s a certain section that is very linear and long that takes place from another perspective. It really drags things down and doesn’t lend itself much to the story. This was the only major mark against the game for me, and for that it’s a 9/10.
@KaijuKaiser negative it’s was the game. After the second or third update, all the graphical options work just fine. My tv exceeds the ps5’s capabilities so I know it’s the game and not the tv
