Mortal Kombat 1 has been out for roughly a week now, and so we're wondering what you lot think of NetherRealm's latest effort. An undeniable looker boasting what many consider to be the most enjoyable gameplay that the series has seen in years, the especially gory fighting game seems to have been a hit with most fans — at least on a fundamental level. Indeed, we've heard some complaints about online components, and that the single-player offering is a bit lacking. But overall, a solid soft reboot (that totally isn't a soft reboot).
We gave the title a respectable 7/10 in our Mortal Kombat 1 PS5 review. "Like we said in the beginning, Mortal Kombat 1 is the best and most refreshing entry in the series since Mortal Kombat (2011), but it falls directly into the same traps as those prior entries," we concluded.
But that's enough about what we think. We want to know what you think of Mortal Kombat 1. So be sure to give it a review score of your own in our poll, and then explain your stance in the comments section below.

7 out of 10.....too much grind while trying to do too much instead of focusing 100% on what matters....the fighting at optimum performance.
Since it's exactly the same as the game before it and before that and before.. a solid 4
Wut about the switch version that performance is abysmal
@Drago201 I guess NintendoLife will cover the switch version
@PsBoxSwitchOwner yeah I guess just figured it deserved a mention cuz of how bad it is
Game is Good to Not Bad. Nothing to write home about but entertaining for what it is. Story mode ending was anti climatic, roster is lacking, invasions is clunky and goofy, they load you down with thousands of grindy customization options and an exceedingly slow shrine to get your loot boxes. But the fighting itself is about what you'd expect. Fun if you're into that kind of thing.
I’m more of a singleplayer mode person and MK1 is lacking in content and execution in comparison to Injustice 2 and MK11.
It’s a 7.5 for me.
@SgtTruth That would be my rating too. Graphics aside, it just doesn't feel as if it's moved on all that much. I feel as if this will be forgotten very quickly once Tekken comes along.
Bought the $100 version and I’m afraid to tell my wife that it was ‘meh’.. should have bought physical 🤦♂️ I hate when she’s right
7 seems fit. Lack of game modes. Characters are pretty similar. Gameplay is exactly the same as before and MK11 is WAY WAAAAAY better than this game. What a shame it turned out to be rushed
Solid 7. Good not great, but also disappointing, becuase it should have been better. Not really a cohesive package like SF6, and the fighting feels super clunky due to the fact that your buttons will always keep you in the same spot. Makes everything feel...dated.
Invasion is pretty boring. It's OK if you like Kollectibles, but there's no real point to the mode outside of that if it isn't fun.
Kombat League is, again, the WORST thing ever. I don't know why they brought this mode back. It's garbage.
Story was good. It was too short though, and some characters are kinda...squandered or are just nothing characters. Li Mei could have had a great arc, but the story moves so fast that there's almost no reconciliation for the characters... I like that Baraka and Reptile are compelling characters rather than just jobbers, but they are left by the wayside after a chapter. Could have been longer, it should have been longer, it would have been better had it been longer.
Netcode is decent. Ranges from ASS to decent at least. Wifi connections are the worst in this game. It makes Kombat League so much more frustrating to the point were I just said **** unwired my PS5 and went wireless. Lag city, but at least it's the lag I'm used to... Can't stress enough how much Kombat League sucks.
It's also pretty buggy. There's a massive bug where knockdowns are different depending kn whether or not you are on the P1 or P2 side. P2 gets knocked down longer, so P1 has the opportunity to do better combos, so it results in P1 having the advantage. That sucks so much.
Game felt rushed. Really rushed. I think I'm actually done with MK now. Best to leave this franchise in the past I think. Street Fighter and Tekken will just be the fighting games I enjoy.
@Grimwood You're really saying MK1 is exactly the same as MKX? Come off it mate😂
I really do hope Injustice 3 is what Netherrealm releases next. Injustice 2 was probably the peak of offline fighting game modes and I loved the customization. The rng stuff sucked balls tho.
Although I haven't played it yet, I do hear a lot of good things about SF6's amount of content. World tour mode looks really cool.
@Grimwood just shows you know nothing about the genre. The gameplay and mechanics are completely different from MK11, which was completely different from MKX.
I give 7. Great Kombat, Beautiful Kombat but the lack of single player stuff is a massive bummer. Invasions is dull and Its just tooooo grindy and I absolutely cannot be bothered with overly grindy games of any kind anymore, lifes too short, games too many.
Good to hear everyone’s feedback! Sounds “good not great”, makes me feel okay that I skipped this one. Loved MK11 for a good while, and felt like I got my fill for the next decade. Maybe I’ll pick it up once it inevitably becomes like $20 for a komplete edition.
@WolfyTn Damn..I pre ordered the premium edition and was lucky enough to get a refund on psn after trying the beta
9/10 for me. It tops MK11 for me, which topped MK9. I prefer it to SF6 as well. The Kombat just feels so… right. I’m having a lot of fun with the game and it’s got really high production values in conjunction to that. One of my absolute favorite games this year.
I haven't played this so I can't rate it, but if the combat is similar to the last few entries, it'll be frustratingly crap
I haven’t played a mainline MK since MK3, ….but I thought this was a really good time. Story mode is a surprisingly fun, competent (….I’ve seen the movies ::shudders:: ), ~6 hour ride with all the characters. Jury’s out on Cage Mansion Season mode, but I’m enjoying the combat— Kombat, sorry — and I’d say a little bit more than SF6. Rating: 8-9, leaning 9.
Probably like a 7.5, could see it bumping up to a 9 after more content gets added.
@Grimwood And what do you expect ??? To be something else 😀😃😀 That's a fighting game dude.
8.5 , really good fighter good story , it’s a
Fighting game not sure what your expecting graphics are nice the movements nice , there will be loads of add ons , I get bored with all fighting games after n hour but it’s mk easy the best fighting game ever

Cant give a rating as i didnt buy it but its good to see users scores. MK11 is probarbly still my most played game with around 400 hours but for some reason i couldnt get hyped for this one at all so just didnt bother.
7/10.
its good, but they cut way too many corners.
the Kameo system makes 0 sense. the only reason those are in the game is so they can have extra characters (some doubles), and not do full move lists.
also, why would Jax help Shao? or Darrius help Johnny Cage? it honestly makes 0 sense.
11 is much better.
The game has too many issues to be anything higher than a 7. Anyone who has been playing MK for years can tell this was rushed. The game looks good and plays decent, but that's it. The Player One advantage bug and the mind numbing modifiers in Invasions Mode are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the issues this game has.
