Stray has been out for a few days now, and it really seems to have struck a chord with a lot of people. Obviously making a game where you play as a cat that can meow on command is going to have mass appeal from the start — but very positive reviews and the fact that it's available through PS Plus Extra certainly helps.
Indeed, we gave the indie title a lovely 8/10 in our Stray PS5 review, concluding: "Pairing a common pet with moody sci-fi has worked well, resulting in a unique, engaging game with strengths that outshine its flaws." Oh, and you can check out our comprehensive Stray guide if you're trying to track down all those cheeky collectibles.

Those voting for "Abysmal" must be dogs.....
7/10 for me. I really liked it but I can’t see myself playing it again.
Great game and a perfect fit for launch to PS Extra model. It's not probable to get AAA games day one (while keeping quality), but awesome co-promoted indies are more realistic expectation.
I'm curious how much Sony paid for it to be day one on the service and if Annapurna will regret it financially. I would assume they paid an equivalent amount to what other Annapurna games do, but judging on PC numbers (and players on PSNProfiles) this game is a monster hit.
Stray .... Plague tale......senua....... Celeste.... Hollow knight...... Hades.... Showed me NVR underestimate Indie games
Not being able to customize the cat to look like mine is the only thing keeping this from being a 10.
@BritneyfR_ee
Personally, I don’t think replayability is necessary for a game to be great. But then I very very rarely replay games (just too much to play and not enough time).
I've only just fixed the antenna but really liking what I've played so far. If you're ever stressed or in a foul mood, just play Stray.
For me personally it's a 7 out of 10. The art style is good and the idea is original but the gameplay is pretty basic and the puzzles can't be really named puzzles. Being limited to only jump on predetermined places is the biggest issue for me. Not that it's a bad game, it just isn't that super great for me. Without plus I wouldn't have bought or tried it to be fair. But that's the big plus of these subscriptions I can now try games which I wouldn't have otherwise
I honestly hope theirs more of a focus on quality indie games for Plus than it was on PSNow.
Probably an 8 or 9 for me so far. The atmosphere is fantastic and it’s satisfying to find routes up buildings, a bit like the older Assassin’s Creed games in that respect. I really like the old-school point and click type puzzles as well.
Given the hate indie games received during the early days of the PS4 im glad to see them come back and be appreciated.
A 7, could've been an 8 had I not gotten as many technical issues as I had. A lot of framerate stutters (launch ps4). The game itself is pretty neat though, not very intuitive at all times but I'd definitely recommend it.
With huge game catalogue subscriptions I really appreciate the <10 hour games over AAA 60+ hour epics. Makes the service actually pay off playing multiple Indies/AA games. Stray, Trek to Yomi, TMNT, shredders revenge, Tunic are perfect examples.
@thefourfoldroot1 I agree. Don’t know why but personally I never find the urge to replay games. Mass Effect is the only game in recent history I’ve played more than once.
8/10 from me. Not a big fan of indie games in general but admittedly they are starting to grow on me. It’s a nice change of pace especially after smashing some huge open-world title.
9 - Love playing the game while having our cat Fiona follow along or nap beside me. Sometimes I will place my purring controller next to her😸
9/10. It's almost purrfect, but the inability to stop in the middle of the walkway and lick your genitals really breaks the immersion.
I haven't played it but it gets a 1 till they allow players to change the cat's color/patterns...
@sword_9mm The reason for not letting you is the dumbest I've seen yet.
Easy 9/10 for me. Wouldnt be surprised if it ended up being my GOTY.
8 seems right, a great game with a unique concept, carefully crafted, original visuals and gameplay, but not enough variety/longevity to merit a higher score
I would rate it somewhere between a 6 and a 7. I loved the atmosphere and the cat is sooo adorable, BUT, I think the story wasn't up to standards, unfortunately. I wanted to see more of Momo and Clementine, how humans ended up extinct etc. If they ever make some sort of a sequel, I hope they address this.
Sort of a weak 7. It was fine, and cute, and didn't overstay its welcome. But I didn't feel as though they truly exploited the uniqueness of playing as a cat, and the main setting (dreary dystopian dimly lit underground metallic graveyard) was never going to be a favorite of mine.
Super good pick for an Extra launch, though. More like it would be ideal.
Stray is unique in its premise and it's structure. Playing as a cat in a unique world is appealing. Gameplay is good but nothing ground breaking.
9/10 subjectively for me. Because I'm enjoying it immensely.
Objectively? I don't care, I'm not being paid to review it 😅
9/10. It’s an absolute joy to play with a wonderful story that takes a frankly commonplace setting and frames it with a unique perspective. It’s a rare game in that it is instantly memorable and it’s clear the developers were fully invested into making the best game they could create. It may well be my second favorite game so far this year.
This game has such a calming affect. Not like my normal games at all.
What’s new pussycat, well plenty as it happens a 9.
stray is top tier is everything it does. its only shortcoming is that its a little too short. the characters and the world needed to be fleshed out more. the ending was not as impactful as it could have been.
@anon_pel222 Moonlighter and infernal are amazing indies.
@BritneyfR_ee yes yes, we all believe that you are planning it…
Has anyone played this on PS4? All the review I can find discuss the PS5 or occasionally PC version.
9/10 before having to deal with the annoying Can’t Cat-ch Me trophy, 8/10 after.
I seriously hope they will release a dog DLC or sequel where we play as dogs.
I enjoyed the game. Little hard to navigate in places. Maybe the little robot buddy could have had a map, I think that would have made it a little easier. But overall very impressed!
9/10 for me. Loved it. Just the 2 hour run trophy left for the platinum.
No option to choose "puurfect"?
I have watched several minutes the gameplay video from YouTube, but it didn't look something I want to play. 😕
The environments were too dark, looked like too many post apocalypse situation as I prefer something bright, colorful like Kao the Kangaroo.
I'm allergic to cat hair, so I will have to give this game a mi...iii..iii... Achoo miss sniff
@Milktastrophe Try the reverse then, "customize" your cat to look like the one from the game. A little hair die here, a little backpack there, and a small toy drone as an accessory
Finished this game in under 3 hours, will be forgotten about within the week. This game is the definition of a fad
Since I don't buy games digital, I didn't play it yet.
And no, I don't want big releases like this on extra or premium or Game Pass. These subscriptions are not good.
Good, but not enough for me to race home, not shower, diet, and itch to play at any given time.
7-8
@Oopsyloopsy91 I dropped some battery pack in between checkpoints. It somehow got stuck behind a bed
Lost about 20m of gameplay
I liked it at first but the novelty wore off quickly. It’s cute, for sure. The gameplay just didn’t keep me hooked. Glad it was on PS+ Extra.
8/10. My son and I have spent the majority of the day playing it through together today and we're loving it. It's the first time we've really played a new game together. I can't see me playing it through another time (although he might), but I'm loving my time with it
9/10 Doesn't overstay it's welcome, no overly complicated puzzle. The story is pretty straightforward but still well told and gives you just enough information but also leaves the wider world up to your imagination. The environments are amazing and feel very lived in.
A solid 7/10 for me, cool game, perfect for PS Extra.
A solid 8 for me, it got its claws into me so early on (sorry not sorry) that I finished my first playthrough in one sitting. Now to clean up the last three trophies including that sub 2 hour speed run, for the plat.
It's a 3D Limbo or Little Nightmares.....
It’s great except for its extremely short and there’s no real npc conversation and quest based missions or side missions etc. Fun but not detailed enough, 7/10
Its fun to play and I like the world but it just didn’t hold my attention. Ill probably go back to it at some point. I hope Sony keeps gving us quality stuff like this with plus going forward.
Going with a 6. The world is beautiful and you can see there was a lot of love put into it.
But at the same time it's extremely short and kinda..... boring. Really glad i got it on plus and didn't pay for it.
Just started playing it and I'm losing interest. I don't know how far I am into the beginning of the game.. feels like I've been playing over an hour, but that can't be. I'm just at the part where I'm infinitely platform jumping while arrows point in the direction I'm supposed to go. It's really dragging on and it's pretty boring so far... I had to shut the PS4 off as I was starting to feel a little irritated as I had expected more of a "grab" to pull you into the game at the beginning. So far, I'm not syncing with the game at all.
..I'll take a break and maybe try again tomorrow.
@Jayslow I assume this is something like, (#PS subscribers * 0,2 * game price)
Wow just an amazing game! Shoutout to the developers. I really got into, even tho I dont like cats that much. But the game got me so into it. 8 points from me
