Earlier this week, God of War (2018) celebrated its fourth anniversary. Some fans thought that the occasion would warrant a fresh look at the game's upcoming sequel, God of War Ragnarok, but developer Sony Santa Monica Studio burst the potential hype bubble. It said that it simply isn't ready to share news on Ragnarok just yet, but it plans on spilling the beans as soon as it's able.
This brief update left a lot of us wondering if Ragnarok will make 2022 after all. Sony has repeatedly pegged the sequel for this year — reiterated by a Santa Monica dev on social media — but there's also no getting around the fact that we've had little more than a single trailer for the game up until this point.
But with Sony's schedule looking so empty right now, it's entirely possible that a Ragnarok blowout is imminent. It's starting to feel like Kratos could smash back onto the scene this summer alongside a release date — but we want to know what you think. When do you reckon Ragnarok is coming? Have your say in our polls, and then explain yourself in the comments section below.

November 2022 would be my guess.
This yr or nxt yr .....
will worth the wait.....
Like Cory said about the the first game, it'll come out when it's done. And I'll be there day one.
That rhymed. Unintentional.
Sony doesn't really do holiday games, so I think late August to early October.
My guess is September with a big summer showcase! Happy Friday everyone!
December 31st; so technically this year as they keep saying 😅
I don't mind it being delayed if they still need more time to polish things. Better late than having another cyberpunk-like release
I would hope August, sandwiched between Nintendo's big releases. Though given the lack of info, Ragnarok will probably be Sony's big winter release.
God of war ragnarok is coming when 👑 king kratos . 🐐. Says is ready.word up son
This is definitely a November release - probably scheduled for the holiday shopping season.
I would love the game to launch in June for my birthday but realistically I think it will be between September-November.
I know they said they don't want to do day 1 releases - but putting it on the new PS Plus out of the gate would certainly help make sure the new launch is a smash hit!
It's going to be a pure viral marketing release. It'll just show up in the store one day without any announcement and suckers like push square will do all their advertising for them.
@Milktastrophe If Sony think a site like ours has the reach of a proper marketing campaign, they're even more clueless than we thought!
November I’d guess, the same month as the likely Starfield and whatever Nintendo has ready for their big fall release. And all I can say to the competition is GOOD luck! GoW: R will crush them like getting slammed by the Levitation Axe!!!
Considering not one single first party studio game has a release date and Stray and Forspoken are due in the Fall, I expect it to release early next year.
I’m voting for that big summer showcase just because I want to see that happen 😄
@meistergeister I mean, sales-wise Pokemon is winning — no doubt. Quality-wise, Bayonetta 3 is a fairly worthy competitor. And Starfield is still liable to amaze and dazzle once it's actually unveiled. Even on the indie scene, if Silksong actually comes out any time soon, I can see it earning GOTY acclaim pretty unanimously.
Ragnarok has a lot of stiff competition to contend with. We'll see what happens.
Delay to 2023 announced via a blog post one random weekday.
Also, there won't be a proper showcase from them until September. Calling that now as well.
Even if they have a state of play in the summer
They will say GOW this Year 2022.
This will keep interest in the game and the PS5 console etc and momentum.
If delayed that announcement will come later
It’s all business after all.
Four months of word of mouth buzz, state of play in August announcing the release date, 3 month heavy marketing push for a launch in November. There is no way this isn’t a winter game.
2022. Like they said.
November makes the most sense. Gives them plenty time to make it and then it's out in time for the holiday season and still 2022.
Feb 2023. Been let down too many times.
If it comes out this year, bonus.
@uptownsoul i mean i understand what you are saying but ghost of tsushima and tlou 2 weren't that far away lol
November not October because of Forspoker and no December because Harry Potter.
It will be the big Nov game.
Probably announced over the Summer when things are slow to get people excited and still hunting for a PS5
Any time between Sep and Nov i bet. Its coming this surely because they have nothing else we know off, considering MS will have Starfield i think Sony really needs a big game as well at that time of this year.
I reckon September time with a SoP in May or early June. It's worth remembering that GoW 2018 got it's release date 3 months from launch.
Summer 2023.
You just can't hurry a masterpiece in process. Well, you can but they are not greek gods (no pun intended) who can go without food or sleep for weeks while working.
No fitting vote for me. I don't care, I don't like the reboot for PS4.
@Nintendo4Sonic and this is where i use my trap card: "You do care because you take time of your life to make a comment" 😂😂😂
It already came out, stealth release.
@GymratAmarillo you're right. 😁 Let's call it boredom on the road home from work.
August, Sony hardly puts out big releases in Holiday, they usually target July-sept. State of Play will be next month, TLoUII, GoT and HFW all had their SoPs in May
I think it'll depend on the release timing of 3rd party juggernauts like CoD and FIFA. Sony avoids the holiday season outside of hardware launches to avoid those juggernauts but the World Cup starts in November and I recall Push Square doing an article about CoD rumoured to be releasing earlier this year so 3rd party juggernaut release timings may be different from usual.
I put September in the poll for GoW but that's based on the prediction "earlier" for CoD means October.
As for reveal format, I think there'll be a Playstation Showcase around May/June.
July. Sony doesn't touch holiday releases with the exclusives unless it's a console launch and I don't see them kicking off 2023 going all out on a cross-gen game.
Seems like they aim for a big exclusive during the Summer now and it's been very successful with TLOUII, Tsushima & Rift Apart
@uptownsoul not in november but just with a month apart btwn the second from the first so if Forspoken is in October and they want to launch GOW the next month they probably will because they had done it before with their own games. And about November, that is also true but if you ask me that is a weakness in their schedule, not having games to finish the year, so maaaaaybe they will address also that.
Going with August-September and next month revealing it's in one of those months. Sony will not like to release gow next to starfield, forspoken, hogwarts, gotham knights, bayonetta, next cod (which would be mw2 which is huge). I think Pokemon is releasing this year, right? Yeah that too.
A little while after it's ready
My unsubstantiated feeling is God of War Ragnarok is too ambitious story wise... trying to fit three games down to 2. I have faith this will be another near best game of this console generation.
A few weeks after it goes gold. My uncle works at Sony.
Same feeling as most people have NOV 2022 + a showcase when it’s close to going gold.
Sept/Oct if it's coming this year. Otherwise, early 2023. I don't really see Sony releasing this during the holidays.
@uptownsoul i'm not going to buy the game so i don't have to know but in the developers page says October 11 so yeah ... and about my opinion well that's just my opinion i don't need stats to have one 😂😂😂
Sony doesn't do big November releases do they? If it is coming after summer it will be October latest. Releasing the big first party before holiday season to reinforce their status has worked so well I don't see why they would change that. They will need to give Forsaken some space but I don't think they will overly rely on it to carry them though given Square's recent output.
I'm guessing/predicting that God of War: Ragnarok will now release in September 2022, and the release date will be revealed during a summer PlayStation state of play/showcase.
Oct 22 is my guess. I'm pretty confident it will launch late-22/Q4-22.
No way in hell it's a 2022 release. April 2023 the earliest.
Yeah... it's "gonna come this year', until it's "not any more".
IMO is too late for the September period, since they are not yet ready to reveal more gameplay, and they keep avoiding to set a smaller launch period, not to mention an actual date.
And it's crazy to think Sony will launch a new release of it's biggest icon during the holydays, when gamers attention and money are split in so many directions.
It'll be delayed to 2023, most likely for polishing reasons... and it's gonna launch between March-May, like every God Of War title before it since 2005.
