We’re focusing on the major broadcasts here – sorry Future Games Show – so you’ve got State of Play and its Marvel’s Wolverine and God of War Laufey combo, as well as Summer Game Fest with Resident Evil Veronica and Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.

Apart from State of Decay 3 and Fable there wasn't anything else that interested me in Xbox's show and as a JRPG mainly player I found the show quite lacking. Even the Persona 6 trailer was one of the worst and most pointless trailers I've ever seen, still don't know anything about the game. Oh well atleast Xbox only players can celebrate having two exclusives.
Hopefully Nintendo have a direct lined up for next week otherwise for me SGF was the best show, closely followed by the SoP. Final Fantasy 7 Revelations, Attack on Titan 3, God of War Laufey and Tomb Raider were the highlights for me.
They were all great shows, but summer game fest is the clear winner, opening on CVX remake and Closing on FF7R is pretty epic.
Summer Game Fest > Xbox > PlayStation
Persona 6 is what I want most but it was a nothing reveal. Still nice to know it exists at least. Veronica was the best reveal. So excited for that. State of Play was fine but relied too much on previously announced games and the big reveal was spoiled and even if it wasn't... I just don't care.
I'd say SGF had the better new reveals but the SOP had the best trailers with Laufey and Wolverine. Sadly for SGF I'm not a big RE guy and I hated FF7 Rebirth.
I do agree with others that it's generally been a strong showing for all parties. I think my only issue with Xbox's show was too much magic bioshock-likes that blended in with each other. Plus a good amount of wasted time on live service titles.
Incidentally, all three have been superb 🙂
In terms of quality I would rate them all about equal. For games I would say SoP, SGF then Xbox based solely on they games I liked the look of
Summer Game fest, the next for me was equal, since I play on all platforms I am looking forwards to the new Gears, while also looking for some PS exclusives.
How on earth is the answer here anything other than SGF????
A good year for shows, all were pretty darn good I’d say. Fairly equal, actually; there are titles from all 3 I’m interested in.
Summer Game Fest for me. But Xbox showcase is 2nd.
@get2sammyb Waiting on your Crazy taxi reaction, told you to have faith
I'd 1000% put sgf first, then Xbox and then playstation. Not based on what id play but more on amount shown all around of decent quality
I actually think all three were pretty good, which is nice. I'd pick Summer Game Fest by a hair, although I did think it was a bit long.
Summer Game Fest
SGF by a massive margin then maybe xbox but it really wasn't anything special and last state of play
Yeah, all three were pretty good. I guess I would rank them
SGF
Xbox
Then SoP in last, but that’s no insult here. All of them had good things to show.
@Oram77 I'm so hyped! Although apparently it's using gen AI
Monkey paw stuff!
Xbox with Persona. If you like JRPGs this was the one.
Summer Game Fest 2nd.
SoP > SGF > Xbox Showcase
All 3 were good showcases but I disliked SGF having ads interrupting game trailers and ending with CoD sucks all the energy out of Xbox showcases.
My choice wasn't an option. I saw some great games this week, I don't care where they were shown.
Can't really say as I didn't watch SGF. Xbox showcase was good but I wasn't blown away. I was expecting more out of it to be honest. Plenty of great looking games I wanna play across all 3. Gamers are in for some great times ahead.
In terms of what I'll play I've got to go with
1. Summer Games Fest
2. Xbox Showcase
3. State of Play
All 3 were good though
I'd say
1 - SGF
2 - State of Play (surprisingly the best paced one)
3 - Xbox showcase
Actually enjoyed all of the shows, XBOX studios stuff is just not my jam and you can only show a certain number of shooters but hey Crazy Taxi, P4R, P6 - can't complain even it was spoiled by leaks.
Both were good. Neither were amazing. But the Xbox Series X25 console has pushed it over the edge for me.
I'm an absolute sucker for limited edition hardware. My Famicom GameBoy Micro and my splash blue PS3 are my favourite consoles ever.
@get2sammyb For real?
SGF had more (longer run time after all) and the biggest reveals. Sony had the better presentation bookended by two big games.
Xbox had a good showing but they lacked new announcements from their own studios, ending on CoD again is baffling. Plus the whole thing was overshadowed by their bizarre exclusivity policy.
Summer Games Fest felt like what Sony used to be 10 years ago. But Sony is still light years ahead of Xbox, lol. Every show has games worth playing though, so it’s all a win in the end.
The only truly outstanding moment was showing 20 minutes of gameplay of God of War Laufey as a reveal. Announcing that RE: Veronica exists was probably the next most reveal of note, which shows the chasm between first to the rest.
Xbox had the best show. It was well paced, had a great variety of genres and hit all their major IPs.
I'd go with State of Play by the tiniest of margins, only because I couldn't drag myself through the second FF VII, so I'm entirely unexcited for the third. Laufey, Phantom Blade Zero and No Rest For The Wicked all really exciting for me. But let's be honest - all three had some great games to look forward to, so we should all be happy, right?
SGF wins despite the filler. Xbox is always solid. SOP really didn’t do anything for me.
State of Play without a doubt. Wolverine and God of War Laufey look absolutely amazing. Couldn't care less about anything Xbox showed today except Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.
All three were good which is rare to see, I'm excited for what's coming.
Hard choice between SGF and State of Play but just because of how much I enjoyed Laufey being introduced with a banger uncut gameplay footage (very rare for games to be revealed like this) I'll give it to state of play
SoP then very closely SGF and no hate to Xbox i think they've been doing a lot of great stuff as a publisher but the showcase was very average, great start and maybe 2 or 3 trailers that i liked the rest i really didn't care about. compared to the other two shows that i loved majority of games shown definitely the weakest by far
Yeah all strong shows but for me SGF took the top spot... Well done Geoffrey!
@BahamutArisen It is incredible how confident Santa Monica were to do that again
The Xbox show had absolutely nothing for me to get excited about. SGF only had two announcements I cared about, and one just got ruined by A.I. so State of Play takes it for me because Wolverine and Laufey look just that good.
@Oram77 Sadly yes. According to the Steam page.
@johncalmc
I could say the same about the Xbox showcase, I personally don't find that an issue from either company.
Young people don't even know what E3 is anymore. You can let go.
It's the summer live stream.
@get2sammyb Has that effected your hype at all?
I liked how the XBOX showcase stated which platforms the games will be available on.
Let's be honest, Xbox showcase had a lot of games that aren't that interesting. State of Decay3 has been in development for over 7 yrs. That doesn't bode well. They're generating alot of buzz online but 90% of these titles will sell best on PS5 if they sell well at all.
Edit: I also have little faith in the Senua game. Ninja Theroy hasn't made a good action combat system since the PS3 era.
I wouldn’t say any of them had a coherent showcase that had a curated collection that showed variety- they were just a collection of adverts for stuff coming in the future.
It’s a cliche, but Nintendo are the masters of the direct because they are usually really good at showing variety. Playstation suffered from having a lot of games that felt like the same game with different skins on it,
@ElectricWizard Have to agree with you on that, Sony being petty at this point
I have all systems so my unbiased opinion is SGF, XBOX then SOP. In all honesty, all SOP did was reveal to me that I'm pretty bored of Sony's first party stuff right now
none of them
And I didn't even have any expectations, yet somehow I was disappointed again.
Still can't believe people were trying to convince others the Xbox Showcase was going to be the one for JRPG's 😬.
Summer games fest and it's not even close. It's the only one that had a lot of unexpected announcements
For Persona 6, Xbox is my game showcase of the year.
@Oram77 I'd say the SoP being so focused on games coming soon is a positive. I'm far more excited for games that are close to release rather than games two years away minimum
@darylb24 A splash card?
@darylb24 How, they've showed pretty much nothing but a logo, a logo that was already leaked along side characters that were missing from this trailer.
If we're counting only new reveals, SoP had zero, SGF had two and Xbox had one.
@Oram77 Trust me, if you are a Persona fan, you would get how big this is. If you don't get it that's cool.
@Dalamar That's not true. God of War Laufey and Until Dawn 2 just off the top of my head were new.
1st Summer Game Fest
2nd Xbox Game Showcase
3rd State of Play
@get2sammyb sorry, I meant reveals that I liked. Of course there were many more in all shows.
They were all good to great to TBH but I think Sony was in last place out of the 3. Didnt watch Xbox one but the list of games revealed purely from a multi-platform pov was def impressive! Wasnt expecting a Crazy Taxi reveal there of all places.
They were all pretty good, Maybe I would go Xbox first, then SGT then PlayStation? But Nintendo hasn't had its event yet.. and considering the sales numbers it's games can get I would not dismiss them.
But really, all good shows. Lots to look forward to anyway on all platforms.
State of Play. Most people are only saying Summer Game Fest since they're FF7 fans.
Well SGF had FFVII Revelation, Xbox showcase teased P6 and I already forgot what games were announced during SoP so I'd say SoP had the least exciting announcements. Gonna wait for Nintendo Direct
@johncalmc I agree with you on almost everything but the best reveal of the week by faaaaaaaar was Final Fantasy Revelation
Xbox showcase was solid! But i pick SoP. GOWL had me mesmerized!
@MidnightDragonDX and a lot are saying SoP because this is a Play Station centric site.
@MidnightDragonDX I'm not! But I put them above Sony for showing Resident Evil amongst others!..
They were all pretty equal for me. I voted for Xbox’s but my announcement of the week was Until Dawn 2
@Krlozgod Yeah, but I hate the Final Fantasy VII remakes so it just annoyed me. Code Veronica was a big surprise for me and I love that game so that was my favourite.
Summer Game Fest was surprisingly strong, more than usual at least. Xbox and Sony showcases were both pretty underwhelming, but the xbox one edges out by having a few cool announcements where the State of Play really didn't.
@MidnightDragonDX I absolutely adore Final Fantasy VII since the day it came out. Revelation can burn in hell alongside previous pieces of so-called remake.
Might sound a bit biased but starting with Wolverine and ending with GoW Laufey and how good they both looked I'll have to give it to SoP over the Xbox Showcase. Plus a new Hot Wheels game got revealed at SoP which I'm a huge fan of. Until Dawn 2 characters looked a bit off and a little weird cartoony to me but still a nice surprise. Onimusha release date was nice especially the demo reveal. SGF was the best of all 3 of them tho cause they opened with Resident Evil Veronica
@Dalamar Gotcha! That makes sense!
@Beerheadgamer82 Hot Wheels was actually at Summer Game Fest but I get you! These all kinda blend together at a point.
@get2sammyb ha was that in yesterday's SGF. Jeez I've not had a cheeky beer either all weekend so can't use that as an excuse
Is say SGF ->Xbox->SoP
Im not a fan of god of war games, and generally speaking, there just wasnt a lot that interested me in the Sony presentation.
Xbox had gears, halo, and fable, but no surprises really.
Leaving the sgf as the only real winner.
Xbox for me. But all but a few of the games shown are coming to PS5, it’s not like the old days.
Tough one as I thought all three were good but il say Xbox, Geoff then Sony
sony easily over xbox they had 2 huge games with wolverine and god of war laufey.xbox paying atlus a lot of money to have a xbox logo over persona 6 in a nothing burger 10 second trailer was a joke..
they should call the xbox showcase the gamepass showcase..
Maybe it’s a recency bias, but Xbox > PS > SGF. Also, I feel like reading all of the rumours ahead of State of Play ruined the element of surprise.
I’ll try to steer clear of Pushsquare ahead of the next shows.
Wait for nintendo , we all know ocarina remake is coming
@johnedwin If most games on the showcase are made by Xbox studios by logic they would be on gamepass but not every game is exclusively on gamepass so there wouldn't be much of a point calling it gamepass showcase😏
Cool games to wishlist were shown on all 3, but State of Play was my personal favorite
SGF was the strongest of the three then Xbox followed by Sony in my opinion., but we have a lot of good games to look forward to.
@Simon_Fitzgerald 100% agree
I think all 3 were similar in quality. Very little difference in quality between the 3 which was a good thing. Plenty of good games across the board
To me, Sony gets the win this year. Both because God of War is one of the few games shown that'll make me question my hardline stance on current game-pricing, but also because after so many years of multiplayer Games-as-a-service-droning from them, it's a ray of light to see such focus on single-player story-based experiences.
Mind you, I thought all three were pretty good, so nobody should rest on their laurels.
Tough to decide, but I'd say SGF > SOP > Xbox.
However, they were all great, and any other year either of the 3 could have been best.
Nintendo ball is in your court!
They were all pretty mid
I thought all 3 had their time to shine but if I had to choose, the Xbox one was probably my favourite. Cant help but feel Sony really need to hone in on their first party output next gen as i cant help but feel a little disappointed with the PS5. Third party have killed it this gen with some bangers but yea, not had that Sony excitement in a while.
I'll give it to Geoff because FF7 & Resident Evil are very near and dear to my heart. I was happy with all three though.
Sony: GOW Laufey, Wolverine, Until Dawn, Dynasty Warriors 3
Xbox: Gears E Day, Halo, Spyro, Clockwork Rev
@ElectricWizard Hookshot websites could learn from Xbox there. We know that the websites are dedicated to each platform, but it's just annoying to have to check again what all the platforms are.
For my tastes, it was Xbox first, then SGF but very far, and then State of Play a close third. I really like games like Spyro and Persona 4 Revival, so it was hard for the others to compete with that. I think Sony's showing could have been much better if there were new reveals that interested me beside God of War: Laufey. I felt like there were too many horror games in SoP and SGF, and I'm unable to play them. Had Sony showed or teased the return of rumoured old franchises like inFamous, or shown a small trailer for Intergalactic or the God of War Trilogy, and for me they would have won. What they did show was excellent, but I didn't find things that suited my tastes as much as in the other two.
I cared more about Spyro and Clockwork than anything at the SoP or SGF, so I guess Xbox wins.
GoW was probably the best Sony had, and it's pretty tied with GoWE-Day for 'solid looking game from a series I'm tired of not doing enough to not seem tired.' SGF was mostly a bunch of generic looking games that I'm sure will just come and go. Kinda a problem with all three, really, but I suppose the generic Dishonored-likes caught my eye more than the rest. So...Xbox wins again...?
I dunno. Nothing really has me too excited as of yet. So it's hard to definitively declare a winner when I felt the same indifference throughout.
I really enjoyed all of them but to pick one it would have to xbox. Gears and fable look amazing!
SGF takes it for now, code veronica and FF VII takes it for the win. But Nintendo can take the crown though, if the rumoured ocarina of time remake is real and it has an amazing art style
Summer Games, then Sony, then Xbox. Xbox can’t win because their consoles names will be available on other platforms. I know that’s not a legit thing. But it is to me.
SGF by a large margin then SOP and in last I mean literally bottom of sea Xbox showcase
@Yor-sama What was so bad about the Xbox Showcase? Which one you prefer is really up to preference, but they both had strong games.
let's wait to see what nintendo has at it's upcoming direct maybe this week..
Summer Games Fest for me.
Geoff takes his first win for best summer showcase so far this year
honestly the real winners are the people who enjoy video games , each conference had several things i plan on playing and we got a lot of release dates ( september's gta avoidance month) , and we have a pretty good picture of some things to expect in 2027 , with a lot more to announce for next year. still no splinter cell remake though.
S.G.F. Feat. Geoff, most def.
Hmm, I guess the Xbox showcase was my favorite.
I'd say Playstation had the best show overall, but Xbox had the games i've actually been waiting and clamoring (Persona teasers)
Summer game fest was good but I enjoy state of play a lot Word up son
@UltimateOtaku91 You've made almost the same post on multiple threads now, it comes across pretty salty.
As for P6, they've always teased them pretty vaguely first time in the past. P5 was just some chairs.
@johncalmc I get why they were vague with P6 though. You don't want to show too much of P6, when you have P4R out fairly soon, given that I expect it looks alot better than P4R. Not smart to undercut your own game
Didn't watch Xbox showcase and only watched SGF a bit when they showed SF6 season 4 and FF7 Revelations. So, for me SoP is the best one among the three but this June SoP wasn't better than February SoP.
Nonetheless, PS5 still have strong lineup for this and next year.
SGF > Xbox Showcase
Both were pretty great, but the former just went a little further.
The SOP was pretty disappointing for me tbh. I feel great about what's coming in 2027 overall, but feel no particular need to invest in the Playstation ecosystem.
That picture of Geoff in the thumbnail will never get old.
Xbox by a million miles for me. 1st party stuff i'm not that bothered by, both had big titles on show but the third party stuff they shown was miles better than the 3rd party stuff Sony or Geoff had to show.
Some actual variety, some unique interesting stuff as opposed to the safe, known and outright boring the other two showcases brought.
Probably Xbox just because it was the most watchable due to the steady clip it kept and at least it had Persona 6 but there was a pretty short supply of stuff I cared about all around.
Summer Game Fest
Xbox Showcase
Last is State Of Play
Didn't watch the whole Xbox show yet but I seen a lot of it so far IMO their system exclusive games never makes me feel like wow these games looks amazing I thought the new Gears game looks kinda odd
every showcase had great games, I believe the clear winner are we the gamers
They were all pretty good, but Xbox edged it for me, which I wasn't expecting at all!
For me, it was definitely Xbox. I more excited about to play Magicians, Halo, Forza Horizon 6, and eventually Fable than I am to play Wolverine and GOW:L and anything else PS showed. SGF was fantastic, though I think FFVII: Rev didn't show particularly well but I'm nonetheless excited about it.
HA State of play higher than Xbox is a joke. Don't get me wrong, it was good but Xbox had me HYPED for 2027 where Playstation had me going "that'll be fun once I get it on sale"
Pretty much agree with the current poll and none of them were bad either. There were some predictability on each based on what happened in each prior show, but they also had some great surprises.
I'm shocked that everything that got leaked somehow ended up still being very surprising too.
Good shows! I guess Nintendo is up tomorrow too!
It's very close. I only saw the middle of SFG, but it's neck and neck in this particular race.
I voted for the one with Wolverine.
The Big 3's shows according to Hookshot comment sections:
Sony State of Play: miserable, depressed, Sony is dead
Xbox Game Showcase: ecstatic, haven't slept since Sunday
Nintendo Direct: miserable, depressed, Nintendo is dead
