i enjoyed the show lots of games i am interested in would give it a 7/8. Astro bot looks fantastic and i like the look of concord excited to see more of it characters look a little bland though
Concord, Astro Bot, Silent Hill 2 and MH Wilds were the highlights for me. Not too sure why they need to re release Until Dawn or show the Ragnarok PC release, save those for a blog.
Concord and Astro for me.
Haven't been this excited for a 1st party Sony game in years. Day 1 Astro club here. Let the hype begin...
You missed Ballad of Antara and Where winds meet, which both happen to look decent to me..
PC guys ain't watching no PlayStation State of Play so I'm not sure who they are advertising to? Also I love Until Dawn as much if not more than anyone here and yet have no interest in this remaster. The game already runs and looks great on PS5 so why? It could have been a free patch.
How tone-deaf can you be to do a stream like this just before the pseudo-E3 times? Just make it one month earlier or something. Even if you don't have anything to show.
A thrilling glimpse of MHW and Astro looked excellent. A little bummed there won't be Astro PSVR2 content. Concord is not my thing but at least it had style
@Scottyy There were lots of cool reveals so i habe no idea what you are on about?
@VaultGuy415 concord looks awsome indeed a game with these looks in a singleplayer game would be dream
Astro was the only winner imo.. another future failure PvP game, a PC port, a bunch of anime crap, some game for 10yo girls, a crappy looking remake of Silent Hill and Until Dawn, almost every game shown was obviously 30fps.. so disappointed..
No Wolverine, GTA 6, Bioshock, Judas, Borderlands 4, TLoU3.. I want new games.. quit wasting time remaking these old games and use the resources to bring us NEW experiences from these beloved franchises 😒
Thank god for Astro Bot otherwise a whole lotta nothing
Can't wait for Silent Hill 2 and Astro Bot!
Ballad of Antara has piqued my interest as well.
I pretty much skipped the rest of the games due to lack of interest (I watched it after it had already aired).
Astro looks cool and I can already feel the controller coming alive in my hands! Would love a VR version just to get the added immersion.
That said, the lack of much else first party suggests that nothing is close to releasing meaning at least 12 months or more.
Silent hill does not look good
20fps easy
Considering Sony has made it abundantly clear for some time that they have nothing in the pipeline for the remainder of the year, Astro Bot is a huge win in my book!
Astro Bot and Silent Hill 2 is all I really cared about.
I’m honestly as excited for Astro Bot as I would be for a blockbuster from PS Studios, the rest however was forgettable at best.
Astro Bot to launch with the Pro model 👀
Wow that was a BAAAAD SoP. Like, maybe one of the worst ones of all time. Astro obviously looks great but its gonna take a sec for me to warm up to it not being PSVR2. Its the biggest kick to the gonads with a middle finger for good measure for those of us who have been loyal to PSVR for years.
@WolfyTn I’m with you but expecting Wolverine, GTA 6 or TLOU 3 out of a State of Play is an unreasonable expectation.
Astro Bot Great! Everything else was garbage.
I dont like anything that is:
the majority of games being pumped out seem to be all of these.
@Flaming_Kaiser it’s all relative. I thought there was cool stuff too. But we don’t all have the same interests.
Well with the exception of Astro that was a colossal waste of time and bandwidth.
Nothing jaw-dropping, they just look average at best. The only game I am still looking forward to is Black Myth: Wukong.
Who needs games when you can celebrate sales numbers!
@invictus4000 I reluctantly post this but for me this was the make or break moment for PSVR2. It confirms to me Sony have no interest in support for the platform other than recouping money selling it to PC users. My biggest disappointment ever in gaming which is saying something as I have bought every major platform since the 70s. Seriously, who cares how good the hardware is without software?
Concord...... I mean great cgi trailer but then the gameplay was nothing at all to be excited about seemed pretty bland, seriously why didn't they make a single player game with that level of details in the trailer, that would of been more appealing.
Hell divers 2 made sense your just a soldier in the fight with everyone else.
This is a team base fps so now its gonna be a qhos the best to play as and everyone will play them? I think I'm just disappointed gameplay to the trailer.
Everything else wss ok, dont really need a until dawn remake, silent Hill 2 remake, im still not convinced.
Astro Bot bow that game looks amazing, I ain't one for platformers but dear god they have seemed to take playroom and turn it up to 100 and thats exactly what was needed.
Looks like we finally have a new mascot and gameplay wise rivals Mario.
Astro bot looks great really happy about the silent hill 2 remake release date never played a proper silent hill game so looking forward to playing my first one and until dawn is something I am interested in and I happy that pc players are going to finally play one of the best games in god of war ragnarok
Astrobot, PoE 2, and Monster Hunter......maybe that waifu Pokemon Snap game while we're at it.
@WolfyTn yeah I'm glad I didn't watch it live so I was able to skip through the stuff I didn't care about which was all of it as it turns out.
Unfortunately, nothing that interests me this year.
Behemoth and Astro Bot were my only real highlights. I guess it was enough to somewhat satisfy my VR/Nintendo ass, but other than that, pretty underwhelming.
I'm actually quite disappointed they did not announce the PS5 Pro, which likely means it will not be out until next year as some have speculated.
Not much for me but I hope others are pleased.
I don't know why I keep tuning into these when all I play are town builders and colony builders and stuff like that nowadays.
To be fair, they did save Astro as last for a reason.
@Tecinthebrain I don't know where you're getting that PC gamers aren't watching these states of plays. 99% of the game show here are releasing on PC at some point... PC doesn't have a big event where a bunch of AAA game are announced that caters to them. So, these Playstation and Xbox event are literally the only place where a LOT of PC gamer can see announcements for the next big game.
Astro Bot is definitely the highlight of the show. Team ASOBI absolutely killed it with bright, vibrant worlds, fun new powers and just the sheer, adorable joy that is Astro. I'm so pumped its not even funny! Concord could be good. I like the colorful art style and characters, but got to see how it feels on the sticks. Hopefully, the rumors of PS having a showcase for PS5 Pro in September are true and they have big, new reveals ready.
@Bez87
If it's like some other hero shooters, each team can only pick a specific character once.
@Absymbel Your comment is perfectly worded. I'm in that exact same boat with you. I was telling naysayers early on that it was a strong launch and to give them 6-8 months to get things rolling but with each passing month and with each passing State of Play I'm realizing I was terribly wrong. The PSVR2 is basically on life support and Sony is just waiting to yank the cord as soon as the public eye is turned away enough. Call me dramatic but with the investment that it was, I feel completely betrayed and swindled. At launch I would have bet money that Astrobot, at LEAST a port of Rescue Mission, would be at least announced by now. Not only is that not true but there have been NO other first party games since launch day. Its quite incredible actually.
@get2sammyB The Alien Incursion headline is in there twice.
Astro Bot is not going to sell that many copies.
Hard pass on all of this.
I didn’t think I would care about concord.
It reminded me of OW/Destiny PVP but with characters from GotG.
I did play a bunch of OW/destiny PVP so I will surely give it a go.
Other than that Astro was my biggest highlight, and then monster hunter.
ppl asking for ps5 pro when the basic ps5 doesn’t even have a good enough library of games
I’ve read all the comments and I have to say this .
No, it does not compare to Mario odyssey and never will .
The free entry for ps5 previously was very good for a demo but way too easy.
This game will only appeal to me if it’s much longer (at least 15 hours to 100% ) Mario was 45 . Btw . Also I understand the tech demo , but with all the PlayStation stuff in the game , it’s just one big advert it feels like.
That being said , if it’s longer and more difficult then it ‘should’ be great . But no Mario contender .
fairly lackluster stream with a few exceptions.
concord - the devs sure like guardians of the galaxy don't they? nothing more to say about that one. DOA.
ballad of antara - surprise of the event. shows a lot of potential but the developer is unproven so need to see more. i'm getting a dark souls meets sekiro vibe from it but with a greater emphasis on story and some light fantasy elements for safe measure.
astro bot - predictable but looks very polished. a safe bet.
monster hunter wilds - more monster hunter with a few new gimmicks. hard to get excited for yet another monster hunter game but looks like it will be another solid entry.
silent hill 2 - still looks terrible. that voice acting and new character introduction was just awful. nothing is going to save this game at this point.
dynasty warriors 25 - who cares?
until dawn remake - again, who cares or needed this?
Astro Bot was the only highlight, rest was 'alright I guess' or just 'shrugs'.
It was a bad presentation but at least they telegraphed that it would be.
Concord.... It is what it is. So overwatch. But spending the whole opener on a CGI cinematic character movie, then switching to a game that's visually nowhere close and it's just a squad shooter like the others was jarring. And why does it look like marvel without a license?
Some decent multiplat aa games. Looks good, always awkward in a platform direct but at least interesting games.
They acknowledge psvr2 exists. Kind of. Then punch us in the face with pancake astro. I still love Astro in any format. But it's still a kick in the teeth.
The worst is the format though. It still sucks. Just a fast pace barrage of clips with zero context, no idea what the game is, and they all blend together as Team Souls F2P whatever.
Saved by Astro Bot
Astro Bot was the only thing that caught my interest. Nothing here really told me I need to buy into the PS5.
@NEStalgia i am billing Sony for stealing my time with this SOP. It was bad bad! Concord looking like…. What do they call games like this on this site, Game pass filler. That was not AAA on point tech. Concord is DOA for me. Astro is cool and all. But man Santa Monica and Naughty Dog better be cooking up something great otherwise my PS5 is just my Xbox with a worse controller for me. All i would play on it is 3rd party and Gears of War. Yes i still think Gears of war is coming to PS. HAHA.
But in closing, this wasn’t good and Spider-man 2 did nothing for me last year so i am on a drought a long drought at that for killer titles on PS that aren’t 3rd party. Come on Naughty Dog 2025!
All I wanted was Astro Bot and was expecting that in November so to get it 2 months earlier is brilliant news
@NeonPizza seriously It hurts to watch them. It's like those tourist venue visitor center welcome videos that played on a loop and all had the same narrator in the 80s. Nintendo has the squeaky voice fake overexcited narrator and Sony has a white screen and hold music. I knew people hate the cheese and corpo speak of e3 stage but I so much want that back compared to this. I can't watch it. It needs a breather between trailers.
Agree so much with so much of the rest. I did love playroom, one of only 2 platinums I have, but yeah that music. And short tech demo nature. But skipping vr still hurts.
@HonestHick ROFL! They should have put a tile in front of the video saying "we paid Jim for 25 years and all we got is this lousy video".
Concord looked so next Gen. Until they showed the actual game and it looked like Switch 4k.
It's kind of telling where we are when over half of ps revenue is just fortnite skins.
It's a sad statement but other than psvr and the square games, PS5 hasn't really done much as an exclusive box that's for sure. And the square games are going multiplat. I think it will be back loaded with the exclusive at eol. But they'll also be cross gen.
What's really weird to me is where itsb the rumored pro? Is it like switch pro that was never real? A jumbo project they cut loose because it was a bad plan? Weird. If it was coming 2024 shadow dropping in September will be weird.
Thank heavens, another team based shooter that I'll never play! Absolute garbage SOP. Astro Bot is just another sackboys big adventure which I didn't care about and that being the 'highlight' really is a downer. So disappointed but at least I have so many old games I've never tried that are so much better than anything being released these days. Currently playing though the arkham trilogy and loving it.
I had to buy a ps5 for 3 times the price that Sony announced, and it was a terrible scramble. the whole reason is because of how great the ps4 was.
now after 4 years i wish i had spent that money to buy a shiny high end gpu for my pc. because all sony does is remake a bunch of games and throw them all on pc.
During the PS4, Sony showed us that not having a PS4 was the worst mistake. During the PS5, Sony showed us that having it was the worst mistake.
They don't care about gamers anymore, they just want to get the most money from us through increasing prices on all kinds of products and damn live action games. along with buying a few exclusive games from smaller emerging studios because obviously it's cheap and lets them keep more money.
Until now, I still don't know what Sony's first-party studios have done in the 5th year.
With what has been shown, I don't think PS6 is still in my plans. I also stopped buying plus last year. Today I used the money I should have spent on buying a ps5 pro to order a legion go.
Phew. Thankfully I don't care about 90 percent of this which means I can catch up on everything else!
Meh, maybe Xbox will have something more exciting soon that will be current generation.
It was okay, Astro looking really and Concord has a lot of charisma in my opinion.
The issue here is that this is the "E3 period" event and we wanted a Playstation showcase showing the big AAA games.
It must be said tho that this year is a lot better than 2023: Astro, Stellar Blade, Concord, FF7 Rebirth, Helldivers 2....but it's time to see what Playstation Studios are cooking
@Giophieudu268 I’m sure the PS5 will be like the end of the PS3 era in which many great games are launched. The difference being that the PS3 had many 1st party games throughout the whole generation. With the way things are going I think a PS5 pro will be a good investment. I’ll get once as soon as it comes out. Reason being a PS6 launch will likely be like the PS5 in which cross generation takes precedent. Unless Sony changes their strategy completely and Microsoft gets their act together (I hope). By unleashing many titles from their 1st party studios. We shall see.
I want E3 back
7 outta 10 score showed some pretty cool games coming out for PS5. Interested in the Ballard game. MHW and astro bot looks awesome
Not much there for me, but a couple of games in Astro Bot and Where Winds Meet have me interested.
Totoki lied. He said that there would be no major PS5 game in 2024 on the level of GoW etc. Astro Bot is.
The new mascot for PlayStation!
@kailun
It’s got 80 levels across 6 worlds. Also, if you’d played rescue mission, you’d have more faith.
@The_Wailing_Doom question is do we need another hero shooter clone? Plus they didn't really give me anything that makes it stand apart from the others, they have to sell it to me in a sea of a million other similar games.
Astro Bot looks fantastic, very excited for that. Not much else to get me interested though tbh.
@NEStalgia HAHAHHA Bingo!
Yeah those Fortnite skins make a lot of money for all platforms. But Sony needs to have a great 2025 and Ghost of mushrooms 2 and a Marvel game ain’t going to move the needle for me. The Pro i still think is coming at some point, maybe the moved it to the 2025 window but i think if they did show it here and come out in October or November like rumored. They are killing sales and excitement of the slim for 3-4 months? However the Pro consoles are for the hardcore user base that already has a PS5. So i am torn on why no Pro details at this show. Switch Pro was real we found out, it was just downsized to the Switch Oled cause of the chip shortage. Man Concord looks so generic that i am surprised Sony bought that studio and more surprised that Bungie didn’t cancel that project. I mean if Bungie said no to the last of Us multiplayer and yes to this, how bad what the cancelled game? Astro looks cool but it’s not a $70 dollar game but most of us will pay it cause thats all there is to buy this year. My PSN online ends in 17 days and thats a hard no renewal for me. PS had made no money from me in 2024 and once i bill them for waste 30 mins of my life, i actually made money off Sony in 2024 HAHA
Astro bot looks like Sony's definite answer to Nintendo's plumber.
Once more disappointed that Sony don't seem to be paying any mind to the racing and driving genres. As it stands, this is one OK platformer and a reboot that I'm hoping isn't going to be as dire as I'm expecting it to be.
I'm more than happy to discard the rest.
Nothing I like.
Just NOTHING.
Glad I didn't even know there was a PlayStation Direct.
Time to find more kids games on PS5 from play-asia.
Oftenly I found some never before seen kids games .
@HonestHick Yeah the absent Pro is baffling. Mid-gen hardware was always a spring/E3 thing for them. I'm thinking either the leakers were wrong and were leaking prototypes never put into production like they did for switch and there never was a Pro, or the Pro was in the plans with Jim but new management realized it's a mistake and quietly cancelled it, expecting xb to start a new gen in a year or two and not wanting to repeat X360's 1 year head start while they're still sitting on a new PS5 Pro.
If it's not that then it means they're stealth announcing it at the holidays with a shadow drop which makes zero sense and will kill it. Or they plan to announce it near GTA6 launch but it seems late for that maybe. Or they're not launching it in 2024, and are trying to play the waiting game to stare down Switch 2's launch which IMO will kill any excitement around it and launch it close to when everyone is just waiting for next gen. IDK, I feel like with PSVR2 their timing for Pro, if it's real, is just a mess. It already feels like the hype ship sailed on that one. But OTOH GTA6 may be the only game that matters for the next decade and everything else doesn't exist.
Isn't Firewalk the studio that was rumored that Sony mismanaged and killed the company culture? Either way the presentation is awkward. It's a fairly generic 5v5 hero shooter in the vein of overwatch, but they presented it like it's the next Guardians movie. Ok, that's relevant in that they intend to have little in-engine movies weekly. So we're basically back to Quantum Break of TV serials meet video games. Except instead of a cool Remedy story shooter we get faux-Marvel and a 5x5 mtx-fest.
@NeonPizza I don't think a revision will happen. I don't really think a VR3 will happen either. But a revision would be self destructive, IMO. Nothing like dropping the most expensive hardware they've dropped since PS3 launch, it not selling, them not supporting it or promoting, it then launching an UPGRADE to sell to the same handful of people that cared enough to buy the first one and jaded enough to be angry at the lack of support. So I think a revision would be self destructive in the extreme, despite the hardware being divisive now.
But I also don't expect a VR3. They clearly don't have an interest in it, and Sony doesn't have a history of staying in small markets that don't show growth.
I'd love XSX VR implementation. I know Phil had said he's not interested until it's wireless back when investors kept asking about VR to them and Nintendo because it was supposed to be the next big thing years ago. But now they have that branded Quest 3 without VR support. So never say never I guess. It's awkward that you can actually by an "Xbox" VR headset to NOT play VR. But Xbox itself these days has the same kind of conversations around it PSVR2 does, so I wouldn't expect anything until their next console which may or may not basically be a PC if rumors are valid.
Of course, most PCVR headsets are $1000 yet even older tech than PSVR2 so who knows where VR goes. I love it yet, and yet it feels like it's once again losing relevance. Meta's the only one that makes it not feel like it's in mothballs and when an industry depends on Meta to exist, that's a rough place to be.
@NEStalgia PSVR2 is dead dead dead! This was the show to support that with more surprises since the core console is not getting a lot of love this year. I think the Pro is coming cause it’s rumored that dev’s already have the kits. But i agree Sony is looking at MS going early and getting a start with next gen. Then Sony comes out with a little better specs leaving MS the room to do a Pro and surpass them in power. But thats the way it flip flopped this gen. At this point i am not sure i need a PS5 Pro. There is no games on PS i want to play that i can’t play on my Series X. That SOP was awful, concord looks like junk to me and i play shooters. Overwatch 2 has its issues but it’s a clever game underneath it all. Nothing looked great about Concord to me. I think concord and destruction all stars will be sharing a grave together. Unless the PC crowd carries it which i am not so sure they will. Astro is cool and all and i want to play it. But not a day one for me. I will get to it later at some point. Not buying a pro for it. Was nice to see they used the dual sense as a air glider. God knows it’s big enough to be a flying vehicle. Damn thing hurts my hands. Slim it down Sony and you got a winner.
@HonestHick The handling of PSVR2 is the one thing that could tilt me toward PC after all. MS doesn't offer it. Nintendo doesn't offer it. Sony seems to not want to offer it despite offering it but also wants to offer it on PC. My most played platform might end up being Facebook's console if it goes that way lol. VR matters to me.
Yeah the dev kits are out there, but at this rate, what, Sony releases a beefed up PS5 in 2025, and then MS releases Gen10 a year later? I can't see Sony being thrilled with that, and I can't see them liking the idea of selling their pro for a year or 2 and then discontinuing it. Technically it would make sense for them to cut their losses now before manufacturing them and just declare it was a bad plan. Unless they really want to extend gen 9 for a long time and trust that MS's next console won't be a gen launch.
No, the PC market won't save Concord. I can't imagine much of the PC market touching Concord at all. If there's one thing you can safely bet against it's semi-cartoon Marvel-esque Gen-Z dialogue succeeding on PC over a super generic team shooter lol.
I'm still waiting for different spring tension sticks for my equally unsupported $200 Edge controller. EVERY other Pro controller has a tension toggle or is sold in different tension SKUs. Sony designs theirs with modular sticks, but only sells one module. No customizing. Which wouldn't be bad but ONLY Sony seems to think high tension sticks are a good thing. Xbox has reduced tension with every generation. Razer has selectable tension. Switch has the lowest tension of all. I just bought a Legion Go and an Asus Ally. Both have wonderfully low stick tension. Sony meanwhile has garage door springs loaded behind their sticks. And even for $200 you can't buy a way around it.
@NEStalgia yeah i know VR means something to you. They do need to support it better or just pull out of it vs the one toe in one toe out it feels like now.
We have talked about this before. Remember i trusted your opinion and in depth review to buy an Edge controller. Agreed 100% the tension is way too high on PS controllers. Plus i highly dislike convex or concave. To me that makes a huge difference. Elite controllers had a tension tool years ago. It’s part of the pro experience not a one size fits all. Worst Pro controller on the market in some ways.
Yeah i don’t see the PC crowd jumping all over concord. Plus PC players aren’t in love with Sony policies on PC at the moment. I don’t have an opinion on that as i don’t own a PC. None of my business. If Concord is a highly successful game i will eat my extra Edge thumb sticks i don’t use.
I thought it was a fine showcase, but you should keep your expectations in check, they can’t satisfy everyone you know.
I’m just saying it as is
@NeonPizza For me a 4090 is off the table. There's no way I pay $1800-2k for a video card. That's for the Saudi princes.
Id try to find. REALLY good sale on a 4080 but otherwise more likely get 4070 ti super or something. So it won't be THAT impressive. Still beefier than PS5 though by a mile.
Hdr is a mixed bag. I hate the persistence but I admit the ability for daylight to look like you're really outside is magical to me. But hey, can still use the vr2 for that on PC anyway. (Eventually)
That's the thing i hate with PC is that the right time to buy is never. Don't get quest 3, pro is almost out but then when that comes out 4 is on the way. Why build now with a 4xxx card when 5xxx is almost out. It keeps you from ever taking the plunge 😠
@NeonPizza Yeah xx90 is just not realistic.. It's nice and all but not Even close to "normal person" budgets. I'm planning on checking Prime Day. I'll check and make sure there no insane 4090 deal but look for an insane 4080 deal. If it's under 1k a may bite. Not over 1k. Realistically you can get a 4070 ti super for 600 though. That's a LOT more wallet friendly and it's supposed to be only 30% slower than 4080. Balancing practicality and budget is challenging. Big question is if waiting for 50000 series is worth it or not. Not far away.
Also will check prime day for CPU and mobo. I'm thinking the ryzen 7600x is a good sweet spot. 6 cores. But higher clock than most and I hear vr cares more about Max clock than cores.
Still not totally sure. It's a huge money hole and a lot of "new things coming soon" to Factor. Definitely need am5/pcie5 for longevity. Don't know if getting an npu will start mattering for games soon or not.
i'm not expecting anything but it was said sony does have announcements for summer games.
@NeonPizza don't get me wrong i bought my pc a few years ago , but the 3060 is starting to show its age , if you really want to run games at their highest level , and i thought i would be good for a while with 32 gb of ram , and that's showing its self too , it feels like you almost need 64 gb of ram now tbh. the one down side about pc is you might still have something decent but you feel like you need to upgrade sooner and sooner each game that comes out.
@twitchtvpat Yeah all that worries me. Otoh the consoles also feel obsolete at this point. Which games suffer with 32gb though? The consoles have only 16 and that's shared vram... What on earth is abusing 32gb so badly on PC?
@NeonPizza Assuming it rivals PS5 pro . Though PS5 pro will have a lousy CPU still and low memory so it's not apples to apples.
I think for me it would replace Xbox for good. Especially since Xbox Undecided about ps. For now I'd still keep ps because they still have the exclusive thing and I still like some of them but if they really move to everything going to PC, being better on PC, and cheaper on PC.... Maybe not. For now the pc would just replace Xbox as Xbox pro.
I'm honestly impressed with what legion go can do on a little z1x.
IDK I'm still excited about games but ironically what's exciting me most right now is a fleet of older games I put on my legion plus atlus RPGs. Triangle strategy. Thousand year door in switch. I'm on games overload now lol. Vr...idk My North Star right now is finally playing Skyrim vr lol. I need a PC for that. I bought it for $13, I just need the $2500 in hardware to play it lol.
But I'm also just not going to spend into the extreme. So I have to make sure a sane priced build does what I want and won't be instant obsolete. $1500-1800 Max really, so I'm practical terms, great sale aside, I'm more going above the 4070 ti. It's it enough to justify the money? IDK
Btw, have you followed all the other pcvr hmds other than that apple monstrosity? Somehow they all seem behind quest 3 but double the money. I may be missing something important there.
Plus I do have a ton of backlog on both consoles so there's also that factor in terms of if a full switch is practical.
@NEStalgia the way i run my pc its always running at a consistent 12-15gb of ram and that's not even with a game running. some more of the more recent playstation games on pc actually required 32gb of ram for the highest settings. i was looking at doing a new pc build at some point , i'd rather wait for the 5000 series to make a bigger jump. the only problem is how many games actually really take advantage of beefy hardware.
@twitchtvpat That sounds like a ton of background stuff running, if it's that high without a game!Yeah, I could see a 32gb requirement, kind of extreme considering PS is using 16GB and that's shared with VRAM, but the ultra settings of those PS games on PC are way above what PS offers. But over 32 seems extreme for current gaming. But yeah if you util is that high at idle, something's eating it all up.
If I decide to jump in, I think whether I get a GPU first or last in the parts spree will depend on if there's any great deals for Prime Day or Black Friday, depending on 4080 (or 90 or at least 70ti) or not. Waiting for 5xxx makes a lot of sense, but I figure the prices will be even higher, and I might be able to get "more" with a higher end 4000 than probably being stuck at 5060 at whatever the pricing will be.
And yeah, games, I think, are about to step away from the graphics race. They're spending more than they're pulling in and it's not really needing them more sales. I think they've been led on a leash by Nvidia for too long to push power because it's there, and ironically might back down from doing so just as new cards come out. There will be some, but we've crossed that line where it costs too much to use it all, the one exception will be RT for easier lighting implementation.
On thing that makes me slightly nervous jumping in right now is if games start needing NPUs for AI soon. MS will be pushing AI in games heavily, so it'll start creeping in. Could make a current build obsolete. Or gaming AI will just be done on GPU and doesn't matter.
All a good argument to stick with console, except those are already obsolete and barely keeping up with their own games, and the increasingly chaotic and draconian policies of the console PC twins make life in consoles a bit too unstable, too.
