Intergalactic no-show is really worrying. 😳
ILL was the game of the show for me. Other than that I liked Onimusha, Control, Rayman and Tomb Raider which definetely exceeded my expectations. The Lost Wild was a good surprise. Didn't watch Wolverine segment as it is already Day 1 for me. Until Dawn 2 looks interesting and I am happy that it exists. Despised Cube of War.
I wonder what's up with Intergalactic...
There was a lot shown that appealed to me, part from Wolverine and Laufey ILL was a big stand out. honestly the biggest disappointment for me was the fact Tomb Raider ain't out till Feb 27, like why even show it off this early (still excited for it), oh and Until Dawn 2 was a very nice surprise. Roll on Summer Games Fest.
Ace Combat. Im happy
No Horizon Hunters Gathering
This was an excellent SoP - quite a few games that took my interest, topped of with Wolverine, and an intriguing new GOW game. A very good showing from Sony.
2 complaints:
1) these things desperately need splash screens before the trailer telling us the type of game SP / MP / LS etc, and a little bit of basic info.
2) September/ October looks like a bloodbath, and will not be good for some games - I really hope some delay to early 2027 as I don't want games to fail just because of when they launched.
Oh, and well done to the Pushsquare team - that is a lot of articles to get out so quickly. (Particularly given the time)
@mrmartinrohr They will likely save it for either Summer games fest or the game awards.
@mrmartinrohr you know they are redoing that game as we speak.
Nothing blew me away. I have to admit Sony for the first time just continues to look off their game.
There were so many games I can't even read all the article titles much less the articles.
Wolverine, Tomb Raider and GoW for me. I definitely have a type. 😂
That State of Play could have easily been an email. I mean, sure, there are some good-looking games in there, but nothing says "hype train" quite like a collection of titles we already knew existed. Underwhelming is an understatement because I've had more exciting trips to the grocery store.
@mrmartinrohr I wouldn't worry. With the 20 minute God of War demo, whether you think that was the right decision or not, it would have been overkill to show Intergalactic too.
I think they'll show it when Wolverine is out.
The Red Dead Redemtion 2 60fps update was nice! ………….oh wait……..nevermind.
@Rich33 Thanks man, really appreciate that!
@mrmartinrohr why is it worrying? they are going to show it at another state of play , there are plenty more state of plays in the future , its not like this was the final one lol.
Solid show overall, and nice to see so many release dates. All these games coming out in September is nuts though… I was all in on Wolverine day one, but I’m going to have to go to Control Resonant first.
Finally, the reveal for Laufey was glorious; game looks brutal, whimsical, and utterly gorgeous. The combat looks amazing and very complex. And that keyart! Great way to end the show!
I said a couple of weeks ago that i have serious doubt if Square will show any game in this SoP, not even FF VIIR Part 3, and i was right. Pretty much Sony x Square close relationship is completely finished.
Anyway. Nice recap for a good show. I have one of my wish granted for Until Dawn 2 although sadly Tales of Destiny remastered is nowhere. But that's not Sony's fault.
@mrmartinrohr There's SGF or end of the year SoP.
@get2sammyb
You deserve the praise - that is a lot of planning and work. (Added to this, unless I am wrong, a lot / all of you are UK based where it is 1.27am).
Very tempted to finally get a PS5 because of the new God of War game 😊
Let's stop calling everything that has Dino's the next Dino crisis. It's not.
@BaronLaw I don’t think you watched the same presentation, but enjoy checking your email.
A new Stuntman game YESSSSSS! This is the creativity of the racing genre I want back. Sure the Back to the Future inclusion, don't care, a new Stuntman game is good enough for me. I'd like more games to have interesting events or progression not the generic we get these days but I'll take a new Stuntman yes please. I want this for sure.
Actually give me a reason to want a PS5/Xbox Series even if it's 3rd parties, come on. PS5 probably more for the peripherals to play around with as fair as Quick Resume is I don't do digital on Xbox, so PS5 it would be, but Sony just didn't make me want one at all.
It also says a lot too, racing games getting me to want a console (EA WRC yes it will be eh but Grid Legends was fair, that or Ride 5 and which 4 was eh but I hope 5 and 6 are decent and not annoying), sure a few hack n slashes/action adventure games (Atlas Fallen, Forspoken, Immortals of Aveum, maybe some others, but we have those, games I myself want then others had already is the thing there) but even still. That side of gaming is just so boring to me of gameplay these days (some are turning it around though, Pragmata, Tomb Raider, I don't need a big IP I just need interesting gameplay), yet racing is too but I still find the few I want.
Tides of Annihilation isn't here so what happened to it? Others I assume are still here or there of development at the moment.
The mix of what was here from each studio or west/east was good though.
Psi Ops on modern platforms is good but I already have a cheap PS2 copy I got not long ago, months ago. XD I'll buy it to support the program as it is a good game (working on Inversion after I beat Singularity cough interactivity Wolverine could learn from even if time powers not using claws with objects, climbing into other terrain like a platform cough, or other characters powers for things cough cough because interactivity is gone from games to easy script excuses now cough cough)/have a digital copy but even still I already got this game not too long ago.
Gitaroo Man is fair to see on here, wasn't expecting, not really my kind of game but I respect it. Clearly after Trombone Champ they saw something there or just licenses they happened to get, hmm.
Rayman Legends Retold... A remake of a game you already have on EVERY PLATFORM ALREADY UBISOFT, talk about playing it safe. It's nice to see Rayman not as a DLC character even if Mario Rabbids are good games and this remake looks good yes, but come on. Prince of Persia cancellation, Splintercell is going well I hope, but this. I have a 360 copy I got cheap. New areas/ideas or JUST GRAPHICS, I mean come on who are they fooling with this excuse.
A new 2D Rayman or Origins ported over sure, I have both Origins/Legends (Vita for Origins, 360 for Legends) but even still Origins is not on other platforms. Legends is not a 'definitive' game or anything. But no a remake of a game on every platform. Ubisoft is a joke. XD
Part 2:
God of War looked, fine, but te side character angle is really annoying in media right now. The talking sword/slime cube is cool but only if they do something interesting with it, I doubt they will. Also the blending more mythologies is a fair idea.
Wolverine looked fine (the lighting is overdone, sigh), but the other characters. IF they are just cameos for story and not gameplay for 'interesting level design' or just call them over to do something for you that they could program Wolverine to do but make scripted and not interesting at all like old games used to do of interactive objects. Yeah sure.
The blood looks fair, like Splatterhouse or any others with over the top blood even if that was more cartoony.
Tomb Raider looks good, I'm happy with it so far. The gear puzzle looked good, whether in the game or not (not played the originals on PS1 but may one day), after things like Echoes of the End with it's old school puzzles, abilities and more of water rising/lowering or the gravity area or just interesting abilities for platforms/combat I just want more games like this again.
There is a reason I buy up retro platformers/action adventure games as I don't like modern ones, their ideas are boring, bland and basic or the style I want is gone but seems to be coming back it seems and not just boring RPG element shoved into them all the time/boring missions I don't care for.
Control 2 looks good enough.
Silent Hill confused me being that direction it seems fine.
No Rest for the Wicked seems fine. Dune Awakening has fair ideas.
Phantom Blade Zero I forget exists but clearly they want me to care. XD
Dynasty Warriors 3 really wants to fail doesn't it? Releasing then, not a good idea. I'd wait for a different time, it's not ideal.
Do they want DW3 or the rest of the series to end up like Chibi Robo? I feel like they will keep making them, it's a big IP for Koei, so the 'fans buy this please' is very particular of them to say.
Onimusha looks good but again it's that type of game where I think it's fine, I respect it but I'm not that interested in it. There are other Capcom IPs I care about. Under The Skin (singleplayer, multiplayer, party game, whatever I like it's ideas) Lost Planet, PN03 (they'd probably ruin that one and drop the interesting moveset it has, sure the level design isn't good but the moveset was interesting, the opposite of what we have nowadays, but they'd ruin it and make what it was of unique and standardized it to be boring).
Ace Combat 8 and 0 fair showing, they really wanting to give 'value' with the prequel/last PS2 entry there like 7 did with it's pre order or COD Infinite Warfare with 4 Modern Warfare Remastered. Sigh Namco. It also won't go to PS+ Premium/deluxe, eshop separately either will it Namco?
As someone who's interest in a game is inversely proportional to how realistic a game's graphics are, this show was one of the worst (for me personally) in a while. The only thing that was actively exciting was the new Tokon characters, and then Dynasty Warriors and Ace Combat are both neat if I ever play their franchises. Otherwise, critically boring, especially after the last SOP was one of my top 10 presentations in general.
Ace Combat was my top pick, next is Silent Hill, and then that Lost World game, in that order.
Tomb Raider is cool but I really don’t want to support Amazon so that one will be something I buy much later on sale, if at all.
I’m probably skipping Wolverine because I started Spider-Man like 4 times and kept bouncing off it. Never even booted Miles Morales and I got it on launch. I know I will probably bounce off this one too but I’m willing to keep an eye on it.
Solid State of Play!
A game that I'm surprised wasn't here was Kena. Hopefully it's at SGF.
@BaronLaw Christ, where do you shop and what time do they open?!
Amazing state of play!
Just F-in incredible
didnt Santa Monica learn their lesson with god of war ascension that was a prequel that didnt do well and this is a prequal with a side character and not even the god of war i dont get it.
Sounds a bit meh, Dino one sounds ok and I'll check out Wolverine I suppose. I don't like GoW or Tombraiders so nothing really jumps out at me.
It feels like a lot of you have lost the video game spark. Glad I didn't !
@BaronLaw you sound fun to be around.
Only day one there is DW 3 remake.
@Dai_e_vai some expect video games to cater to them 100% after years/decades of playing games as a main character. If you don't expect video games to fill the void in your life, this was a very good SoP.
@trev666 didn't the psp God of War games do well? Ascension was the only exception and mostly due to the forced multiplayer.
Good show. My most anticipated.are:
Something within the vein of SOTC, TLG or Ico would have been amazing.
Everything else that's multiplatform I'll play on my Series X.
Is Rayman a sequel or a remake?
@CutchuSlow a remaster with some extra content?
No fairgames at least.
A decent show. Too long and that decision to show 20 minutes of God of War was bizarre but there was a lot to like overall. I can understand the criticism that the Sony formula (excessive playable cutscenes disguised as gameplay) is becoming a bit played out at this point but I can't blame them for playing it safe. More remakes and mostly third party stuff means when you sit back you realise the presentation wasn't quite as exciting as it first appeared but kudos to Sony for most of the games having release dates and not too far away at that.
It was a good State-of-play for me personally, as I don´t care about multiplayer games-as-a-service-offerings. Wolverine and God of War are must-buys for my PS5 (moreso now than ever since they won't get PC-releases).
I´d rather have a new 2Dish Rayman-platformer than a remake of the best previous one, but hopefully it´s a stepping stone.
Bancho the Chef was pretty stylish too, and I´ll keep an eye on that one going forward.
So many games out in a short space of time. Laufey being called a main entry game is disappointing. I suppose this means the next real GoW game will take even longer to be out.
The state of play I think sums up media in general its all the same stuff rehashed over and over again very little in the way of new ideas just run the same IP's into the ground. Most TV shows at the moment are just going with the nostalgia boom with lots of moments of remember this back in the day. The sad thing was seeing Gitaroo Man and Psi Ops and having that remind me when gaming was cool and exciting and not the by the numbers sequels and remakes we get today. there are very few people want to take a risk in media these days.
@bindiana because when they do, people don't bother buying them or wait for a deep sale. So, they're not profitable. Back in the day they could make tons of games and not face bankruptcy if one of them were to fail to sell millions. That's the main difference, imo.
Damn reading some of these comments is depressing.
Kemuri, GoWL, Marvel Tokon and Wolverine are all must-plays for me, Bancho looked cool and will keep my eye on that. Was lacking in variety slightly but still a strong showing, IMO.
Excellent State of Play, but too many game's in just two months, especially in the September, but it will be played, almost all by my side... Wolverine - as I expected to be, but we don't see all. By me the biggest surprise of evening was: Ill, Until Dawn 2 (because I'm a big fan of this type of game's) and GoW as a full franchise - now, then Onimusha, TR - Legacy of Atlantis (from my childhood), Phantom Blade Zero, Control Resonance, The Lost Wild and Dune: Awekening - will be must to play for me!!!
Watched the show a second time last night and it was a really good show, but I’ll admit there wasn’t much new that was announced that I’m interested in. Bancho and the Dinosaur game were nice surprises, but outside that, I’m just not a GoW or Marvel guy, so I’m really at odds with that is being shown off. It makes me wonder what Sony was doing before that I liked so much better and I think it comes down to the fact that I just prefer Naughty Dog and Japanese style games over what Sony’s pursuing right now. I can see why many people would be really excited though.
Either that or the fact that most of the exciting games were announced in previous showcases and then everything just got an end of September release date.
I’ll admit that dropping so many games in September and October too is going to lose sales for some games. I mean, the release slate for the summer is practically empty, so it feels weird to know very little may be coming out until September. I know I can’t afford to buy (nor will I have the time if I did have the money) ALL the games I liked to see too, and I’m wondering if, following the reaction, some games may delay to 2027 because they understand how overloaded that month is. I’m going to watch the rest of this week’s showcases before I pick what I buy for sure, but I’ll definitely be laughing if we get much more in September. Phantom Blade Zero and Onimusha releasing side by side is rough, as I’ll be honest I’m now feeling one or the other, you know? Dawnwalker is actually feeling more appealing after the show because it releases earlier and has more time to breathe…
Playstation 5 has been a disaster. Worst generation ever. At least PS1-3 exists.
solid SoP for me personally. lot of games still out in 2026, September looks brutal for new releases. stand out for me is Wolverine, Silent Hill and ILL. also looking forward to Tomb Raider, Until Dawn 2, probably Rayman remake for my kids.
Not so happy about new GoW game tbh, I´d prefer new game with Kratos and rumoured Egypt mythology and setting and I´m happy. This new entry is probably not for me...
also hoping to see Intergalactic at SGF or some new announcement from Sony 1st party
Dear friend @CaptainCluck
Thank you for stating an obvious fact.
Appreciated.
Lets roll on to next gen and be done with the worst console era.
Such a shame...
Wolverine looks very underwhelming. I think the fighting is over the top and makes it less immersive. I will skip this one. 😊
Surely Knack 3 is in production?
On days like this I can't help but pine for the old days of PushSquare when it was less popular and there was a less negative comments section. I must have been watching a different show because it thought it was pretty great with lots to look forward too.
@naruball nope chains of Olympus sold about as well as ascension and ghost of sparta sold a third of what Olympus did
@Lovespuds
Maybe ionlywantpositivenews.uk is something for you
State of play was okay! Many of you would say different. Sony has been horrible this generation!

NEW: Sony's been selling millions fewer first-party games (developed and/or published) almost every year since 2020.
On the eve of a new State of Play, it's clear Sony could use more hits
Growth in third-party game sales does not appear to be to blame.
Sony’s total first-party game sales on its consoles since 2020 versus the overall number of games sold on those platforms. First-party game sales peaked in fiscal year 2020 at 58.4 million copies sold. That window of time included PS4 blockbusters like Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part II, as well as launch games for the PS5 like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the Demon’s Souls remake. That number’s been going down every year since, except for the last one.
@trev666 indeed. Unlike the other psp games that sold tens of millions. It usually helps to put things into perspective. For a psp game chains of Olympus sold well.
You're right about Ghost of Sparta. It didn't do well even for a psp game.
As someone who hasn’t had time to pick up a controller for several months, I really enjoyed the showcase.
Wolverine and Laufey look great, acting as a good reminder that Sony titles are excellent when the focus is on single player.
Tomb Raider looks wonderful, can’t wait for that one.
Never expected an Until Dawn sequel, so this was a pleasant surprise given how much I loved the original.
Onimusha continues to look great too. Huge fan of the games back on ps2 and the demo for this new one is a lot of fun
@anubisvel there were no big surprises, no big system sellers, no new formula games. Either sequels. Or reskins. Or wokeisms.
ILL looks incredibly good, new Tomb Raider for sure, but first party lineup was somehow disappointing
@anubisvel Fair enough, but when only 4 games are actually brand new, that's not a 'State of Play.' That's a mandatory PlayStation firmware update with trailers attached. Glad you liked it, though.
