The nights are drawing in, the advent calendars are out, and it's just about time to start thinking about Christmas decorations. (Seriously, don't be one of those people who's had them up since early November.) With the temperatures plummeting (depending where you are in the world, we suppose), it's time to start getting cosy in the warm. And what better way than with video games?

I feel like I should really play some more recent games in order to help bolster my Game of the Year content but I'll probably just play NBA 2K22 or something.

I'm back on Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, following the surprise announcement that its brand new expansion is releasing in just under two weeks. It didn't feel right continuing from my old save, so I've started a new game, and I'm looking forward to building my character in a different way. Hopefully I can blitz the main quests before Fatesworn hits!
What are you playing this weekend? Will you be digging into something new, or revisiting an old favourite? As always, you know the drill: let us know in the comments section below.

Genshin and finishing off Kingdoms of Alamur, might even have a few rounds of fall guys
Outriders...only 2 trophys to go for the platinum..
The Council. I love interactive stories, and I just got it on sale so I can't wait to try it out!
Might even play some Digimon World: Next Order.
After finishing Control UE I’m going to make a start on Guardians of the Galaxy. Been looking forward to trying it as others have been heaping it with praise. I’ll get my first taste later after the kids are in bed.
I've finally got hyped for Elden Ring after seeing some online beta footage... But I won't be playing it til I get a PS5 (whenever that is)
So I've already played through Dark Souls Remastered on PS4 to get my souls fix and am now replaying Dark Souls 2: Scholar Of The First Sin which gets a lot more flak then think it deserves (even if I agree with a lot of it's flaws) and I think is the Souls game I've actually replayed the most.
Guardians Of The Galaxy:
At the end now chapter 16 has just started as the credits rolled so must be the last boss??
Team Sonic Racing:
(On PSNow) it's fine, not as good as Sonic & All Stars Transformed.
Pokemon Fire Red:
Been a while since I've played this so I thought it start again, just won my second badge.
Cyberpunk 2077. After watching a lot of gameplay videos I knew I'd like it. Played like 15mins so far, it looks like Uncharted 4 vehicle graphics in an openworld, it's pretty! Plus I think I'm finally trying to finish my 2nd run of AC Odyssey I started a million years ago. I'm playing it the R* way and enjoying it more - y'know slowing down and taking it all in.
I’m playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla still. Luckily I have 8 days off work, so I’ll hopefully be able finish it soon.
Demon's Souls, just got some boss weapons and going for the Plat. Kena and Lost Judgement also when Im taking a break from Demon's Souls
Wielding chakrams like a maniac in a high fantasy world.
SWITCH
Shin Megami Tensei V - still making my way through this! Great game so far!
Skyrim - Starting another stealth arc- I mean, a magic build!
PC
Death Stranding - continuing this masterpiece! Actually really loving the gameplay.
Garry's Mod/GTA 5 - A mix of both with friends tonight!
Have a good weekend everyone!
Outriders. Enjoying the gameplay loop quite a lot. Might go back to Deathloop or start Far Cry 6. Finished Returnal platinum recently as well. Seems I'm in the mood for shooters atm lol.
About halfway through Tales of Arise, still a great JRPG.
Ratchet and clank one of the best games ever made.amazing graphics.cool story and. Extremely fun gameplay.and horizon zero dawn complete edition. One piece pirate warriors 3 (ps4/5) - played and platinumed this when it was new but decided to replay it.
Pokemon brilliant diamond (NS) - got 10 shiny buizel’s 3 days ago, really want shiny murkrow tho.
Scarlet nexus (XSX) - started playing this game, really fun. But on a break atm.
Have 3 games left this year until I fully beat 52 games which means 1 game weekly on average.
Super Mario Kart (SNES) - Been playing with the kids, so I anticipate more multiplayer this weekend.
Mahjong by Microsoft (Android) - Daily challenges and puzzle packs as usual.
Burn the Rope (Windows Phone) - Nearly at the end of this one now.
I picked up Jurassic World: Evolution (the original one, with the Jurassic Park expansion in the Black Friday sale, so I've been working my way through the vanilla campaign (on the 4th Island now) before giving the expansion a go.
I've already played the original campaign on PC, but it was a while ago, and it's one of those games my wife will sit down and kinda play with me (they're not a gamer) so we're not just doing different things in different rooms.
Just paid my fortnite crew membership, ready for the event tonight @ 9pm
Feel free to add me: NateGoesLive as the lobby can hold 16 this time!
Nexomon ps4 edition and Funny Truck on Series X. Also Forza Horizon 5
PS5: I'll be earning the platinum for Death Stranding DC this weekend. I only have a few story missions left 💪
Switch: This is so random but I've started Fire Emblem Three Houses again (this will be my fifth playthrough). Feels good to be back! I needed something relaxing to balance out the stress of Metroid Dread.
Series S: Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite online. I can't wait for the campaign to drop next week. I'll also try to squeeze in som Tales of Arise.
Have a good weekend everybody!
Finished Rift Apart yesterday and what a good time I had with it. A really fun game that helped brighten up some cold winter days & evenings. Worthy of appearing on many GotY lists.
With Valhalla still not doing it for me, I need something else to play and will turn to replaying an 'old' favourite; 2018's God of War. It was either that or The Last of Us Part 2 but Christmas is as much about Fantasy as it is Santa, at least to me!
So in addition to rewatching the mighty LOTR trilogy and The Witcher season 2 this December, I'll also be spending time with Kratos and Atreus and enjoying a genuinely great game.
Enjoy your weekend, folks!
Playing Plague Tale Innocence, completed first chapter, it's ok so far. Also clearing vaults and challenges, before I move on to the next area in Immortal Fenyx Rising.
Sunset overdrive(xbones) and chorvs, chrorus? Chorus? Chvrvs!(ps5) Sony really needs to port sunset over to the PlayStation, it’s probably insomniacs best game in my silly opinion.
Just started replaying Horizon Zero Dawn in preparation for Forbidden West!
Lots of games
Well, finally caught Covid so isolating and recovering whilst playing Guardians of The Galaxy, which is just about finished so I'll go for the Platinum.
Also Battlefield 2042 to try and force myself to like it lol and a few online bouts of Gulty Gear Strive to improve my ranking
Have a great weekend guys ❤
Only just started AC Valhalla so going to wrap up warm and plough the majority of my time into that
@ApostateMage ooh what game is that ?
Hi there fellow gamers.
This weekend I´ll be continuing my Guardians of The Galaxy playtrough on PS5, wich I´m loving it by the way. The banter between the characters is so good. Give those who wrote them a raise, cause they deserve it.
Maybe do some online matches in Guilty Gear and try to get my Celestial spot (more getting my ass kicked 😜).
Happy Chaos in the right hands can mix anyone. It´s crazy.
As for new games, Forza Horizon 4 on PC. I got the ultimate edition on steam for 35€ and I´m enjoying my time in FH UK version.
I have so many cars available right from the start, that I just keep trying one after the other. And downloading some great designs for the cars by the Forza comunity.
And Chorus on PC as well. Had my eye on it form the very first trailer. Wil see how good the controls and combat feels.
Cheers, stay safe good people and happy gaming weekend to us all
I'm starting Ghost of tsushima directors cut (PS5) for the first time ever..I'm in for a treat.
Going back and forth between yakuza 4 remastered, Uncharted 2 remastered. After last week being so brutal, I'm kinda getting burnt out on gaming right now. I've been watching Calebhart on twitch spend over 5000 resets on Pokemon Brilliant Diamond trying to get this shiny Rayquazza, it has been such a ride and he still hasn't got it hahahahahaha (1 in 4096 chance to get a shiny so he's just super unlucky). Also been playing persona 4 golden while watching these streams, game is surprisingly a lot harder than Persona 5 for me as there is no batton pass system (not that I know of yet), so that's been fun!
Darkest Dungeon. It's opulent and imperial.
Having recently finished Deathloop and Far Cry 6 I decided I needed a non shooting game and opted for Plague Tale Innocence, great game so far a bit more relaxing until the rats turn up!
@Northern_munkey how is the platinum? I was going to start Outriders and had heard the platinum was a decent one.
@Link41x Mario Kart on the SNES is one o the greatest games of all time (amazing memories) I probably play that one more than 8 on my Switch!
@ApostateMage Hi there friend.
You´ll either playing Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning or Xena: Warrior Princess. Other contenders are:
Old school Castlevania games;
Dynasty Warrions games;
But it´s probably Xena right?
Cheers, stay safe and have a good one
@RaZieLDaNtE This game has been one of the biggest surprise hits for me in years. I had literally no knowledge of Guardians universe (not even the movies) going into this game, completely blindsiding me. The banter is literally the best banter in a video game I've ever experienced period, especially when you're on the ship in between missions. Their dialogue just CONTINUES AND CONTINUES, one time it literally took me 40 minutes just to exhaust all their dialogue, it is so amazing! I completely agree with you, these writers all deserve a massive raise for what they've done. Hopefully we get a sequel in the coming years.
@Mostik its an achievable one although there are a couple of grindy ones such as the one i'm currently grinding away at..
Bought monster sanctuary in the sale so looking forward to starting that and also bought Pillars of eternity so got my weekend sorted.
@Iver aha yeah the new expansion is out isn't it
@Divergent95 just got halfway through The Council myself. Its has flaws (too many vague puzzles in some eps, wonky animation and voice acting) but its awesome how they mix rpg elements with dialogue choices and the mystery is very intriguiging. Ill be intrested to see your reaction...
@Northern_munkey Excellent, I don't mind a bit of a grind if the gun play is good enough. Got a cheap copy on Black Friday so will be starting this next! Enjoy buddy.
@RaZieLDaNtE @Iver @KingPev why Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning of course. Classic gem with ace combat.
Determined to finish Wreckfest's career mode tonight, and then I'm not sure what I'll be playing.
Bit off topic, but I watched Godzilla vs Kong last night. It's basically Batman vs Superman, but with monsters 😐
Pokemon Brilliant diamond on Switch
Some Avengers and Back 4 Blood on xbox
And some more blue reflection second light and Kingdoms of Amalur on ps5
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy DS2 aint bad, its just not comparable to the rest. The care and detail that Miyazaki puts into the ones he directs (level design, bosses, atmosphere) just wasnt felt there for me personally...although it does some solid moments. Then again, what so cool about this series is everyone will have a drastically different opinion on what is best.
@ApostateMage ..aha yeah great game - completed it on 360 years ago and the new remaster sits in my huge backlog ! Enjoy
Started playing Gardeners of the Galaxy (😁) last night and I’m really enjoying it so far.
But... I’m playing on the PS4 Pro and it feels a little stuttery (I’m assuming that’s the frame rate? 🤷). It’s not unbearable but I don’t usually notice these things and I noticed it.
The game is great though and made me laugh out loud in some parts. It has a killer soundtrack too. How did they get Gary Numan ‘Cars’ when the GTA (not) Definitive Trilogy didn’t...? Just shows how cheap Take-Two (or whoever) they were with the music licenses.
@GorosBat Hi there friend.
One can say that the writers nailed these characters really well.
Not only they got their personalities right, they made them feel like "real people" talking and interacting with each other.
Props to the voice actors, cause they also nailed their performances. One of the main reasons I´m having so much fun playing the game. That and the crazy combos you can pull with the Guardians different abilities.
Cheers, stay safe and have a good one
@ApostateMage Still could´ve been Xena: Warrior Princess on PS1. But Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is good to. Played it on PS3 and had some fun with my Drizzt Do'Urden made character.
A classic game for sure.
Cheers, stay safe and all the best
@fR_eeBritney Hi there friend.
Yes, the soundtrack is the other major reason I´m enjoying the game a lot more than I thought I would.
They have:
Bonnie Tyler,Holding Out for a Hero;
Blondie, Call Me;
Rick Astley, Never Gonna Give You Up;
Wham!, Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go;
And Blue Oyster Cult – Don’t Fear The Reaper.
Now that´s an awesome OST for a game to have.
Cheers, stay safe and have a good one
@Col_McCafferty 😆 I haven't played Valhalla but I realize it's hard to get into AC sometimes. Like I said in my post, I was struggling to finish my 2nd run with Alexios in Odyssey, but I've realized taking it slow and playing it like a R* game works for me. The everything fast fast point to point running all over the place map clearing gameplay can be off-putting and soulless sometimes I know.
Spyro 2! To be honest I'm just killing time until Christmas. Good fun though
I restarted ffxiv after a year so I have the 5.5 to finish and next week endwalker. Man it's hard to get back to an mmo I had to reset button layout, the hud, macros, find an fc and remember every move of my classes. I hope endwalker is worth it the only reason I will buy it is because its the end of the main story
GoT Iki Island DLC, some FH5 and just bought P5 Royal so I'll probably make a start on that tomorrow. Have a good weekend all!
Desperadoes 3. It’s so good! Definitely going to pick up Shogun when I’m done.
I'm finally taking a dive into the world of HORIZON ZERO DAWN after all these years. I think I'm going to like it here.
@TheArt I really enjoyed Odyssey and played it at a good pace but with Valhalla I am at the point where I think there's almost too much to do. I haven't really played it that much over the past few weeks but when I do, I'm kind of forcing myself to.
It's strange as I'm a big AC fan and was in the mood for a big sprawling open world game and yet that's not the case. I think if I devoted enough time to it, the I'd get into it more but God of War is calling and that's going to be my 'main' for the foreseeable.
Miles Morales, Rift Apart and maybe I will finally start Metroid Dread
PS5 - Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Resident Evil Village (beat it earlier in the year but want to revisit it with all my upgraded items and perks from the in-game store)
Switch - Metroid Dread
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy I loved Dark Souls II. I think part of the problem is that the early areas are quite underwhelming. The game takes is time to really forge its own identity if you ask me. And the DLCs are superb.
Just got the platinum in Tales of Arise and Mass Effect 3. I was going to start Ghost of Tsushima or Kena, but after 'just checking' the improvements to Skyrim Special Edition, I find myself comlpetely addicted AGAIN. One of my favourite games of all time!
Kingdom Hearts II, while also progressing a bit more through both AC Valhalla and Immortals Fenyx Rising.
Still on the platinum run for FF VII. Making progress, although to be fair, you kind of get to the point where your party is pretty much godlike.
Continue on my spirit quest in Kena Bridge of Spirits. The game sure is beautiful.
I haven’t had time to try out the last character in Street Fighter V Luke just yet. So I’ll see how he is.also get in some Samurai Shodown.
Got my broken hand out of my cast this week, so can fnally play 2 handed. However am still sticking to more passive games for the time being:
PS5
The Council
Halfway through this overlooked narrative title. Really cool central mystery and mixing of RPG elements with dialogue trees is evolutionary for the subgenre. Uneven Voice acting and some frustratingly vague puzzles let it down abit so far.
Telltales Walking Dead Final Season
Finished the first ep and have really enjoyed it. Oriniginally binged the others a few years back and never got round to this one due being faitugued by Telltale games. Its not as fresh as the original felt but definelty improves on the story and formula of the sequels. Looking forward to more.
Persona 5
Have been playing through the first hours as a mellow palette cleanser. At a 100 hr length im in no rush and it makes for relaxed gameplay. Its basically just more Persona...but if thats if what your in the mood for, then its awesome.
Xbox Game Pass
Pillars of Eternity
Been streaming this to my phone with touch controllers on downtime during work. I detest mobile gaming but this works pretty well and was able to customise playing one handed. Obsidian are my current favorite western RPG studio and this game plays to there strengths. Only a couple hrs in though.
Full Throttle
The last remaining Lucasarts remaster i havent played. Pretty early in, but the expected humor and plot are working for me.
Ah the Shenmue Santa. Classic.
I'm working two 12 hour shifts this weekend and highly doubt I'll get to play anything.
Death's Gambit, if anyone played this at launch and didn't care for it(I was disappointed) I would suggest giving it another go since the afterlife update dropped. It's much improved and I'm enjoying it alot.
Also been playing Nier Replicant, really great game. Side quests can be a little lacking, but the main story is great. I hope there is a 3rd game one day.
@Col_McCafferty Oh yeah, God of War...I still have that Queen Valkyrie to beat.
@ThorsHammer I actually played the first episode a couple of months ago, and so far it's an 8.5/10 for me! Fantastic voice acting and I love the mystery so far! How would you rate it?
Mostly Halo but I also started SMT3 on Playstation and plan to play a little of that. I'll also continue to chip away at Trails in the Sky 3.
I just finished up Guardians of the Galaxy, which was super fun. This morning I started Dodgeball Academia-so far it is pretty basic but very charming. So many fun games to play, so little time........
@Divergent95 i just began episode 3. After 1 i would give it an 8/10, but after ep 2, which has weird pacing and loads of vague puzzles and objectives over the awesome RPG dialogue gameplay, it dropped to about a 7. The plot still kicks ass and ep 3 so far is better. Will prob finish over the week so can have a better verdict for you.
I played these games:
1. Skylanders Imaginators PS4
2. Paw Patrol Mighty Pups PS4
3. Mini Ninjas PS3
@Divergent95 I really enjoyed the council, it's a fun mystery game
Currently playing asterix and obelix xxl 2, then I'll probably go through 1&3 aswell because I've just bought the collection, and also playing a few vr games.
Hoping to finish Guardians of the Galaxy. Such a flarkin great game!
that's false advertising by Santa because you could never buy those lunches
Finished jett-the far shores, frustrating controls but enjoyable too,then did omno,great relaxing gameplay, now on Alan Wake remastered now,not so relaxing 😃😃
Little bit of Greedfall and Luigi's Mansion (2ds xl). Having to self isolate as me and my son have contracted covid, so won't be doing anything else for a while and we found out he has it when my son was at his mothers so I'm going to have to wait to see him now. Ultimately a sucky situation. Hope everyone else is faring better! Happy gaming.
@Anti-Matter Ahh, been a while, crocodile! How does the Paw Patrol game play? Was thinking of picking it up next year sometime.
Big Brain Academy for sure. Maybe Halo. On PlayStation, I dunno. Perhaps some Death’s Door, but truthfully I’m not enjoying it as much as I’d hoped. It’s solid, but I don’t know where so many people go on praising the game as a 10/10 or GOTY material.
Started Far Cry 6 earlier in the week, but it isn’t sticking for me. Maybe I’ll try a little more before I decide if I want to shelf it. Other than that, I suppose I could start Sackboy. But then again, I think I’m enjoying casual Skyrim Anniversary Edition sessions more than anything I purchased from the recent slate of sales (except Olija, that game was short but fantastic).
Well still in York watching the snooker so nothing much, might have a blast on the switch but I doubt I'll have much time tbh. Normal services resumes next week lol.
Gonna play Shenmue now. Thanks!
@Jayofmaya
Paw Patrol Mighty Pups was easy to play but it has long loading time.
Just finished Psychonauts 2, a great title to share both milestones of 5000th trophy and 50th Platinum, miss it already.
So in lieu of any better ideas I'm back on Detroit: Become Human, for my 4th attempt at starting the game and trying to save the hostage.
I hope it clicks this time, I really loved Beyond: Two Souls, but hated Heavy Rain.
I'm playing rachet and clank. Beautiful visuals...and really taking advantage of the ssd (not a single loading screen). Nothing new gameplay wise...won't be my game of the year, but really gives a hint at what the ps5 is capable of. Which is all the more.a shame that next year's big hitters as targeting PS4 too. I really want to see this console pushed...not wait till they throw out a pro before I see the benefits of purchasing a ps5 now.
So I'm a bit through the Blood & Wine expansion of Witcher 3 and I just needed a break, I've played nothing else for pretty much the last month.
My roommate has spent all his time since 4am Friday on FF XXIV, I've thought about starting it on PS4 while he's on PC but it feels overwhelming trying to start it out.
I've just started Assassin's Creed Odyssey because I really like the Ancient Greece setting & the mythology. First AC game I've played since 3 & Black Flag....I've got Origins & Valhalla too but haven't played either, Odyssey really got me interested after I looked through the season pass content & saw the Atlantis & Underworld stuff. I'm about 4 hours in and it's a ton like The Witcher & very pretty. Alexios is goofy and so far, it's fun.
Besides that, I might try to play a little bit more of Guardians of the Galaxy, I got stuck at the mission where you gotta fight a whole ton of Nova Corps & kinda gave up for awhile. I also might drop in for some more Persona 5 Royale.
If anyone wants to be friends on PSN, my friends list is sorely pretty pathetic. My username is GalacticBreakdwn
@Shepherd_Tallon Original FFVII or the remake? I was having trouble tackling Hard Mode even with my team maxed out.
I continue playing Red Dead Redemption 2 , currently in the beginning of chapter 3.
I love every aspect of this game. Most probably will take weeks to complete the story. It's an amazing experience so far.
And not related with gaming but I am looking forward to watch the Formula 1 race this Sunday. I am really excited about it.
I'm finally next gen, and got Infamous Second Son, Detroit: Become Human from PS Plus and a PS5 upgrade of Watchdogs Legion, I've been sitting on Legion until I got my hands on the new box, that's the banker if the other two suck.
@KidBoruto The remake. I struggled at first, I couldn't get passed the scorpion boss right at the start.
Elemental materia saved me though. I give each character 2 HP Up materia, and always have elemental combined with fire, ice or lightning. Then, once something is staggered I throw Tifa at them with her triangle attacks to increase the stagger.
There are still some tough boss fights, but once you figure out the patterns it's only a matter of time before you win.
Also, Equip Aerith with Pray, and two Magic Up materia, then heal constantly during the harder fights.
@Omegasky91 come on verstappen;)
@Shepherd_Tallon Thanks for the tips! I plan on giving Hard Mode another try once we have a confirmed release date for Part 2 (and it has gone gold).
@get2sammyb thanks for the wonderful thumbnail... Christmas 2000 and my new dreamcast... good memories!
Anyways, for me it's Terminator Resistance and Shin Megami Tensei V if it wouldn't be for work.
@KidBoruto That was my plan too, but I had nothing to play for the last month so I went back to this.
Hopefully we can carry items over and they just scale enemies up...
@tameshiyaku Haha you're welcome!
Went a little crazy with the Black Friday sale and got Far Cry 6, Cyberpunk 2077, Riders Republic, and Outriders. Outriders was only $20 so I added it to the cart, figured if it was not good I only lost a little money.
I tried it first and it's amazing. 15 hours in and its a fantastic combo of Borderlands and Diablo, very addictive, great world/characters, tight and crunchy combat, infinite customization, and well...those other games are gonna have to wait I think.
Watch Dogs Legion is still my fav game of the year, but Outriders has zoomed up the charts and looks like it will be my #2. I know the devs worked to recover from the rough launch, but man, kinda blown away at this (for me) undiscovered gem
Just played HOA today, a lovely chill out time for a few hours and easy platinum, also started A Short Hike but mostly been reading. I finished The Three-Body Problem and will start the follow up tonight. Also four episodes into Arcane and enjoying it immensely. Hope everyone has had a great weekend, boo work tomorrow 😭😂
@Shepherd_Tallon My backlog is neverending, so in no hurry to resume FF7 Remake Hard Mode.
@frankmcma really enjoyed outriders..just got the platinum so i can give it a break now and concentrate on wrapping up a few others..enjoy
Decided to started another playthrough of Demon's Souls but ended up beating the game the same day, so I'll probably play Dark Souls 2 through again now then
Blue Reflection Second Light. So far I am loving the game.
Deaths Door which is just fantastic. Love the music so much.
@Anti-Matter Thanks for the info, was hoping it would be on the easier side. Shame about load times, have a ps4 pro so maybe that will help if I turn off Supersample.
