It's been a much quieter, more manageable week on Push Square, which has given us a bit more breathing space. Of course, no matter how busy the news cycle is, there's always time for gaming at the weekend, isn't there?
Stephen Tailby, Associate Editor
I've been almost entirely absent from the site lately, and I'll tell you why: I've been playing Horizon Forbidden West. The review drops on Monday.

I finally unlocked the Serious Gamer Trophy in Capcom Arcade Stadium yesterday, which necessitated that I had to 'Play for at least 100 hours' for a paltry Bronze knick-knack, so I'll celebrate by aerial cartwheeling through Kouichi Yotsui's creative stage design in the original 1989 Strider.
What's keeping you busy this weekend, then? Is there anything specific on your gaming agenda, or are you just going to play whatever takes your fancy? Let us know in the comments section below.

I’ll be continuing with Kingdom’s of Amular Re-Reckoning. Really enjoying the game, although it does get a little bogged down in side quests.
I’ll be playing Edge of Eternity. Really enjoying it.
In a holding pattern waiting for Horizon Forbidden West to drop so I started playing Death’s Door. It’s good fun so far and some interesting boss battles.
I've had the week off and finished Spider-Man off And uncharted 4. I'm thinking sniper ghost contracts 2 which I picked up in a sale a while back should tide me over till the new Horizon drops.
I'll be playing the second level of Sifu. Followed by the second level of Sifu. And then I'll be playing... yeah
UPDATE KLAXON
I beat the second boss! Getting to him is harder than he is...
PS5: Finishing up Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves and some dailies/quests in Genshin Impact.
XBSX: Dying Light 2. Probably the very first zombie game I actually enjoy.
Far cry 6, Probably the best map and main character in a far cry series by a long shot but I can’t say the same about the combat, it’s still stuck in the PS3 era.
Playing deedlit in wonder labyrinth on switch. Man I really like this game, bought it when it's still early access on steam, have it on xbox gamepass, but I play it seriously on switch. I love metroidvania games with graphics like these, bloodstained and shantae is okay, but in the end I prefer beautiful 2D graphics compared to 3D/2.5D.
Also playing banner of the maid on switch, I bought it (only $8.5) after watching switchup "nintendo new sales" video. I love tactical strategy games like final fantasy tactics, langlisser 1&2, and wargroove, but that video is the first time I heard of this game! I like this game, the story and characters are interesting, the 2D graphics is great, the music isn't as good as fft but that's to be expected.
Decided too actually give a few games I've had from plus a go. Finished telltale game of thrones so going to give their batman games a go
Ps5 Dying Light 2, really enjoying this like I did the first. Just brought Sekiro and trying to learn the basics of combat. Looks real nice on Ps5. Lost Judgement school missions. Plan to get Horizon next friday cant wait!
More Monster Hunter Rise, Danganronpa v3 and I might try Lost Arc on pc since I’ve downloaded it.
I’ve been enjoying my Switch while I wait for Elden Ring to release. Pokémon Arceus is really, really good - have not been able to get into these games since Blue. I am also playing through Quake for the first time which I got for under £4 in the current sale - the ambient soundtrack is phenomenal. I replaced my broken Joycons with the Hori Split Pad and they are so much better.
Can’t wait for Xenoblade 3 in September!
Far Cry 6 on PS5 - this is far better than both 4 & 5 which I hated, enjoying it a lot
Starcraft 2 on PC - I must have put around 1500 hours into this, it saps my life. If there are any PC gamers on here, this is a must !
Halo Infinite on Series S - simply the best Halo in a long time, superlative multiplayer ( in terms of its basic form anyway)
Have a great weekend guys ❤️
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin. Back when games certainly did not hold your hand so it's a struggle but a very enjoyable first foray into the Hitman series.
Honing my skills to become the most feared and badass assassin in the world this weekend.....until my gf intimidates me into taking her out for a Valentine's meal 😕
On playstation 5 I will be giving edge of eternity another try as my first two hours with it didn't do it for me, I will also play some more neo the world ends with you.
On switch I will be playing some more pokemon legends arceus, about hale way through the 4th map and having a blast with this one which is probably the best Pokémon game they've made
Went back to the game that makes a lot of games look bad - RDR2. Continuing my 4th playthrough, oh mine can't stress on the incredible lighting in this game enough. Horses just makes every other game's horses ridiculous. Then it's some more GT Sport and probably try both games online as it's free mp weekend.
Got Horizon Forbidden West installed and taunting me whenever I'm on the home screen. I think I'll fire up the Series S and play a bit of Destiny 2 until midnight Friday.
Dying Light 2 for me, i'm loving it and it has one of my favourite open worlds in ages.
Finishing through another run of TLOU 2 before Horizon Forbidden West!
Spyro Reignited Trilogy on PS5 and StarDew Valley again on my New Nintendo Switch OLED.
Uncharted 4 from the legacy of thieves collection - really enjoying it again. After my playthrough of the Lost legacy with 60 fps, I chose the 120 fps mode for U4.
Otherwise a bit of Maneater und CoD Modern warfare campaign.
@Fragile i mean why wouldn’t it be ? pokémon really could benefit from a better presentation and better graphics . it’s an ugly game .
Zombie deep in Dying Light 2 and will be for a long time. Will watch some Horizon on streams/VODs on YT and will play it on deal for sure.
Dying Light 2 is astounding and I’ll continue to say it till everyone’s bought it. Ignore the hate, people will moan about anything and everything.
@Fragile my expectations for the graphics and performance were rock bottom but I actually really like how it looks. I wouldn’t worry too much about that. Skyboxes in particular are beautiful and the evening lighting is really nice.
Returned to Returnal
Valhalla all the way..have 2 rounds of golf booked but other than that detour its valhalla..have a good weekend all.
@WallyWest Yeah it's great and if the expansions are like the first will be playing for years
Mopping up trophies on ratchet and clank, then back to dying light 2
Frozen wilds in preparation for forbidden west to get back in the rhythm
I'm finishing off Uncharted this weekend, and still playing a little bit of the free version of Destiny 2.
@kyleforrester87 Im a bit mixed on Arceus its enjoyable but for me the graphics and lack of voice acting is a shame. They could approve these things in a huge franchise like this
Been playing through the Vanguard campaign. First Cod I've played since MW2 and really enjoying it. Turned all aim assistance off and playing on hardened which is making for some really tense fights. The graphics are outstanding in some scenes. Should wrap it up this week in time for HFW.
@riceNpea My game of the year last year
Was at an old friends wedding dance last night, so just sobering up in the lodge we are staying in playing some Breath of the Wild and finish reading Consider Phlebas. Have an excellent weekend everyone, I know what everyone will be playing next weekend 😉
@Tsushima I’m not sure it needs voice acting so much as it just needs a better story, as so far it’s kinda dull and I don’t think voice acting would help that. And in fact bad voice acting would make it worse, I think BOTW had that problem actually.
But sure, I think some good voice acting would help.
Planet Coaster has sucked me in so I'll probably spend an insane amount of time fiddling with my park.
Back on AC Odyssey. Finished the Legacy DLC a few days ago, which was all kinds of heartbreaking story wise and now I'm down in the underworld in part 2 of the Atlantis DLC. Have a good weekend all!
I've got to what I think is the final boss in deaths door. Really charming game style but the game doesn't mind wrecking you!! Some hitman 2 (leaving a mission on a bus with a illuminati-esque robe on is as funny as it sounds) and hopefully some more shadow of the colossus. Happy weekend folks
Gonna finish Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, play some Kingdoms of Amalur too, Hades. Already ordered my PS5, it's coming. Them, Horizon Forbiden West will enter the fray!!
Cleared the slate a bit in preparation for Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring…so might just chip away at something that’s been on the back-burner for a while like Division 2 or Everybody’s Golf or something.
Playing the g.o.a.t. 🐐 👑 god of war. @lolwhatno No, but maybe I should? I tend to dismiss most horror/zombie games right off the bat, as those genres has never been very appealing to me. Perhaps I shouldn’t!
Haha, I’ve had it for as long as I can remember. No idea where I originally found it.
Mopping up the side quest in Tina Tina - just killing time until HFW. Will definitely start and finish Boba Fett this weekend now it's all out.
@MightyDemon82 What an excellent book that is.
Ive got a long weekend of eating my body weight in food to hide away from Wales playing in the 6 nations as last week was shocking. To take my mind away from that nightmare I'll be playing more Skyrim as I've just started the dragonborn dlc and possibly restarting Dragons Dogma.
Legacy of Thieves, starting with The Lost Legacy as I haven't played it before and I'm hoping to finish it before I watch the Uncharted movie.
Also gradually working on the Ghost of Tsushima platinum before I jump into the Iki Island DLC.
And then waiting for next Friday.
It’s more Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection for me on PS5. I never got around to Lost Legacy on PS4 and yet I still opted to start with Uncharted 4. I wanted to check out how different it felt at 60 frames per second and now I can’t stop. Trying to finish it before Forbidden West releases on Friday.
Elsewhere, I’m still playing the fabulous Forza Horizon 5 on my Series S, and in anticipation for the upcoming Live A Live, I’ve also started Octopath Traveler over on Nintendo Switch, which I’ve found to be a great little game to unwind with in bed.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Playing a little Dirt 5 from time to time while continuing my journey through Demon’s Souls. Dirt 5 is decent enough - a nice distraction. Demon’s Souls is fantastic.
I doubt I’ll finish either game this weekend, but if I do, I’m thinking my next game will probably be Mass Effect. Or maybe Miles Morales. Or perhaps The Pathless. Plausibly Persona 5 Strikers. Also considering Resident Evil 4. Been meaning to get to Uncharted 2. Welp, I think I just don’t really know, do I? 😄
Maybe I’ll watch the Super Bowl and some of the Olympics too.
Not much, Planet Coaster has been taking up my gaming time and will continue to do so until a copy of HFW is delivered.
Toyed with the idea of starting Guardians of the Galaxy whilst I wait for Horizon, but I didn't want to start anything I'll drop as soon as HFW boots up. Will leave that and others in my backlog for when I'm done with Aloy's second big adventure.
Have a good one, folks and Go Bengals!
I'm hoping to finish Act I of Ghost of Tsushima this weekend. Lovely game, but once Horizon arrives next week, the rest op the story will have to wait...
FFVII remake, Genshin and Back 4 Blood
Still playing Guardians of the Galaxy, and still loving it. I think I'm on Chapter 13 (of 16), so there's an outside chance I finish it this weekend depending on how long some of the last 4 chapters are.
I've been mixing in Lost in Random at times, so possibly that as well. It's been a pretty solid indie game.
@The_Pixel_King I like octopath, playing on game pass just finished the first chapters
Pokémon Legends Arceus and Returnal. I'll probably play some Forza Horizon 5 too.
@Th3solution the very nature of your wanderings on the matter of what to play next seem to be pointing decisively towards The Pathless, no?
Started Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. I've not got far but I'm enjoying what I've played up to now
@lolwhatno Eh, it’s worth a shot. Got it readily available in the library so nothing to lose. I just need more free time as we all do, of course.
Still plenty to do in Disco Elysium - half way through on Hardcore mode, and I've got no idea how to get some of the Final Cut trophies (the rest are reasonably obvious, if difficult to set up)
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker. I've beaten the main Sept-something route, and am now on the other Tri-thingy story.
Also playing some Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight, and I'll find a new game to get started with as well.
Super Bowl weekend, I won’t be playing too much on the PlayStation side of things. Waiting on the new King of Fighters game.
Will finally sit down to Sifu later today I think. Then just waiting on HFW. I've been in a bit of a funk lately unfortunately. I know when I don't wanna pick up the sticks my mental state is bad. Here's hoping I can get back on track
Played through the Triangle Strategy Prologue last night in one go, and I absolutely enjoyed it. Love how this year already has games that would’ve given my GoTY nominees last year a run for their money. Having finished Arceus, I’m feeling sort of like I’m simply waiting for HFW, so, that said, I may not really play much of anything til that releases and, if I do play anything, it’ll likely be something casual.
@lolwhatno Those are some fun games to bounce between, I love both of those games! The story and characters in RDR2 are amazing...gameplay not so much. One small touch I've always appreciated I wish more games would adopt is using the sprint button while crouched
Guacamelee on Switch, I’ve tried to get into this game at least three other times and failed, but I’m loving it this time around. Also, Far Cry 6 to hold me over until Horizon.
Mahjong by Microsoft (Android) - Playing dailies and pack challenges.
Contre Jour (Windows Phone) - About halfway through now.
Ridiculous Marathon (Windows Phone) - Still playing in bursts as well.
Death's door and FFXIV
Daemon X (Free@Epic Game Store PC)
Windbound (Free@Epic Game Store PC)
Deaths Door (PC Game Pass)
Waiting for Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring pre-orders. PS5 basically ate my Day 1 game budget, so free stuff for now.
@lolwhatno
No mate. Had a launch day PS1 and every console since even the vita. I'd got the upgrade of the uncharted and not played since it came out and had a blast. As for Spider-Man I'd been putting it off for a while due to friends feedback. Got to admit I didn't really enjoy it far to much busy work for my liking. Probably the least I've enjoyed a ps exclusive in a long while if not at all. I still have Miles Morales to play but that's going on the back burner for a while now. Understand I'm in the minority with that opinion but doubt I'll be buying the sequel.
@lolwhatno Haha yeah there's tons of stuff to mention, but of everything I felt that was easiest to implement in other games.
You got any favorite moments/characters?
Personally I'm a huge fan of Sadie Adler, and Charles
@render did the same things the other day, quick fun platinum. just biding my time for horizon and Elden Ring.
@Jimmer-jammer Haha, very true, indeed.
If only there was a game called “Indecisive”
finished RE7, just some vice city definitive edition until Elden Ring.
I'm hoping to finish dark cloud if I can get past the final boss, then I'll either continue with borderlands 3 or the wonderful 101 if it keeps my interest.
@lolwhatno Yeah dude Strauss sucks xD, maybe when you get further/complete it color me with your impressions
@lolwhatno
You to bud. The uncharted update at 60 FPS made a big difference for me, added to the fact I imported my old trophies and therefore didn't worry about any treasure hunting and the like. Then just concentrated on the game and puzzles really improved the flow for me. Definitely more immersion that way than the way I previously played it.
I played Wii Music.
Pokemon Legends Arceus, been really getting into that recently. And if I can fit the time in some Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.
Sifu all weekend. Last level to go just want to bring my age down before I run it. Otherwise might check out Riders Republic free weekend since I can’t imagine ever wanting to pay more than 20 for it.
Streets of rage 4, not sure what else yet.
Some Cruis'n Blast on the Switch for sure, a really addictive arcade racer, have to get those last goddamn keys hidden everywhere.. A bit of Battlefield 2042, killing that obnoxious Angel freak never gets old, and i probably will slay some more mythological creatures in Skyrim VR..
Risen 2: Dark Waters because I wanted to finally try a Piranha Bytes game and I got it pretty cheap.
It has that old PC RPG-feel kinda like Morrowind mixed with Oblivion. Liking it so far but I feel like even levelling up it's a tough choice.
Genshin & GTA San Andreas
I've finished U4 from Legacy of Thieves Collection and moved on to Resident Evil: Revelations. I'm hoping to finish 1 and 2 before March 4th. Then it's going to be Gran Turismo 7 only till May/June I imagine 😁
PS5
Demon Souls
Intially breezed through this one four months ago but then got my hand in cast and couldnt play - i was up to maneater boss.
Now fully recovered this week i went back in...and it kicked my ass for 2 days straight. Then the game clicked again, i soloed the maneater and old hero in an hour, now just struggling with the world 5 swamp, but looking to start wrapping this one up before Elden Ring in the new week.
I struggled with this one back on the PS3 back in the day n cheesed through most of it with a magic build. That got me hooked on Soulsborne games and ive played everything else with melee builds instead. Its a great feeling returning to this cult classic and the remake gets rid of the frustrating jank the original had.
PC Game Pass
Last Stop
Been playing this one on my mobile. Pretty fun narrative story, love the characters and the london setting.
Switch
Mario Cart 8
You can never go wrong with some mario cart. Just picked it up on feb sale (handed in those points i was storing). Not groundbreaking but awesome nontheless, bring on the dlc!
Playing Olli Olli World and Pokemon Legends. Almost done with both.
Fortnite with homies and some Witcher III or God Of War (;
or
maybe Mario Kart 7 on my old 3ds shrug
@Anti-Matter sheeeeesh, one of my favourite Wii Games
@VivianXD2464
Yup, since rhythm games are my forte, I like to create my own music performances from Wii Music.
This is one of my Custom Jam from Wii Music.
I bought Sifu tonight and haven't gotten off of it since. Sony need to ask Marvel for the Shang-Chi licence and then pass it on (with some cash) to these guys for an exclusive.
Funny Strider is the image because I've literally only discovered Osman, the superior Strider game 😁
Completed R&C Rift Apart. What a showcase for the PS5. I played every R&C since the PS3 era and this was the only one where I was investing more time collecting and completing the side missions. My 7 year old also played on easiest difficulty and loved every minute of it, completing it last weekend.
Also a bit of the new Uncharted remastered . Plays and looks like a next gen game
Also got Disco Elysium Final Cut on Steam .Loving it so far. I can understand the almost universal acclaim this got.
Also a bit of Iki Island expansion
Next weekend if my special edition Horizon Forbidden West disc arrives on time I suspect I will drop everything else
Trying to finish Fallen Order and get the plat before Horizon.
Trying to get past the second level of Sifu with a bit of guardians of the galaxy once I’ve failed!
@Metalder Fair play, the more that people talk about Cannon-Dancer/Osman the more that spreading the word will keep some sort of hope for a port of it to modern consoles, although I'm not sure who has the rights to games by Mitchell Corporation today.
The 1989 arcade version of Strider is one of my favourite games in all my time gaming, especially since I imported the impressive Japanese Mega Drive conversion when it released in 1990. I've bought Strider on as many collections as possible since then.
Kouichi Yotsui was not the designer or director on that many games, but his work on both Strider and Cannon-Dancer makes him a legendary Japanese game creator in my eyes.
I know that Yotsui considered Cannon-Dancer to be a spiritual sequel to Strider, so I'm glad he got the chance to explore similar 2D design for Mitchell Corporation with the advances in arcade technology seven years later in 1996. It was cool that Yotsui was the game director on Moon Diver for PS3 in 2011, too.
Never say never, I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed that Cannon-Dancer/Osman is re-released on PS4 or PS5 one day.
I'm playing Bloodborne (The Old Hunters) again... and the Powerslave/Exhumed remaster...
@JamieO thanks for the input. I only discovered it because I had one of my retro game setups playing in attract mode. When Osman was displayed I thought it was a ripoff from some random, no-name company only to learn Yotsui was behind it 😱 The art design and animation is seriously a thing of beauty (I'm playing it in 480i on a 27" CRT). Here's hoping more people experience it one day.
Messing around with Project Cars 2. Basically waiting for HFW then GT7.
It's more fun than I remembered especially with cold tyres on a wet track
Tales of Berseria.
@lolwhatno ouch, I totally get that feel. Red Dead 2's shooting bothered me so much that I just turned off aim assist completely which somehow made it as bad as it was before. Either way basically my only gripe with the game, looking at the amount of time I've spent on it I'd say it's negligible in a way. Though I guess if you're playing a Respawn shooter at the same time it's bound to sting even more.
Control UE (PS5), Guardians of the Galaxy, and first Dying Light as I patiently await HFW.
Nothing yet but planning to pick up where I left off in Ghost of Tsushima! I sadly got distracted last weekend and never played it lol.
@LittleToyTitan @Insecable Glad you two are still having fun with Ghost! Please let me know how you feel about the game after you wrap up everything.
@lolwhatno yeah you've mentioned that lol. Given that some people have complained about red dead feeling like moving from one shooting gallery to the next I'd advise against it. Though I can understand why you would need it given that it's February.
Thanks bud, GT7 got me bricked up to the point where I had to make a GIF of it. When're you changing yours then? You've put the little tortured guy on display so often, what is it even from?
@lolwhatno aww thanks mate. I've always thought it was weird how phones didn't have basic video editing tools, so when I got a new phone last month I figured it might by now
And lo and behold I can actually edit stuff now, the leap in software between my last and new phone is bigger than these console leaps dude 😂
Ah I did read your profile yesterday and figured you were a big dark souls fan but didn't think this was from it. Your version looks too chibi, or cute.
DUDE I'm the exact same, in a place as littered as this most people I link to their pfp. Doesn't mean I don't love changing mine though hahah. I guess your name is more noteworthy however as I've found it easier to couple with your previous messages. If you do change your pfp someday you've got my blessing!
No worries I love to read, especially your messages. They're always very cheerful, and yeah that dude looks pretty dark soulsy to me.
@lolwhatno ah I wouldn't say that, your about me was a great introduction as to who you are. Yeah I've had that with the hades guy who said he changes his profile every few months? I believe. Can't find his profile but he goes by medic alert now I think, always odd just not seeing someone anymore. But still getting the same vibe from someone else lol.
Nah I don't know who uses the guitar gif, I previously had Kojima holding a gamepass card, I changed it on here because I'd rather have my current gif but didn't know it would change on pure xbox as well.
Yeah that last one is great, second one as well. Don't know if that's the fire ash dude from ds3 but he sure does look it. Nice speaking with you as well mate. May fortune ever be in your favor. (Best I could come up with)
@KidBoruto Will do!
@Anti-Matter Wow, that setup is old (the one from you Wii Music Animal Crossing Jam video). It brings back so much nostalgia
