We truly are in the doldrums, folks, because this week was a real stinker of nothingness for virtually the entire gaming industry. Yes, we got the shock news that Embracer has acquired Square Enix's western studios first thing on Monday, but beyond that... Nada. Let's play some games, eh?
Sammy Barker, Editor
I'm trying to step out of my comfort zone when it comes to games and try things I'd never usually play. That quest has brought me, somehow, to Kingdom Hearts 3. The story's an absolute stinker, but so much of the gameplay is surprisingly superb.
Liam Croft, Assistant Editor
I did indeed finish Lost in Random last weekend (good game, I recommend it), so now I'm making my third attempt at trying to get into Hollow Knight. Wish me luck!
Aaron Bayne, Video Editor
After an ungodly grind I am finally free from the additive grips of the Apex Legends Season 12 Battle Pass — ready to start it all again this coming Tuesday. However, for the weekend, I’ll likely try and revive my Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut playthrough, which means walking through cinematic vistas slowly and using photo mode a whole lot.
Jamie O'Neill, Reviewer
With never my mind on where I was, or what I was doing, I'll cast my thoughts back to the N64 in 1999 via the PS4 remaster of Star Wars Episode I: Racer, even though it's no longer May the Fourth.
Quite an eclectic selection this week, presumably because we're all digging into our backlogs a bit right now. What are you playing this weekend? As always, let us know in the comments section below.

After 70 glorious hours, I finally finished Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut this past week, but I still can’t put the game down. I kinda want to save Iki Island for later down the track, so I’m going to mop up a bunch of leftover side missions and shrines, etc and maybe even give the platinum a go.
Elsewhere, despite not really being that much into super difficult games, I recently buckled and picked up a copy of the fabled, Elden Ring. I’m slowly gearing myself up to get past the intimidation factor and boot it up. This weekend perhaps?
Other than that, I’ve not played Gran Turismo 7 in a week or two, so I’ll try and squeeze in a couple more menu’s from the cafe, and I’ve still got The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe loaded up and ready to start, too. Seriously, there’s tons of great stuff to play on PlayStation right now, just not enough hours in the day.
"Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" on the Sega Megadrive. Difficult to believe that I actually thought this game was good when I was ten years old.
On playstation 5 I will be continuing with the voice of cards the forsaken maiden, so far I quite like it, it's definitely unlike anything I've ever played before and kinda wish the characters had their own voices instead of the game being fully narrated.
I will also be continuing with elden ring and the trails of cold steel 1, currently have it in easy and turbo mode so I can breeze through it and try and get the whole series done this year.... Maybe
On switch I will be doing chapters 15 and 16 in fire emblem three houses with the golden deer House and some more xenoblade chronicles 2. I will also boot up some splatoon 2 so I can do the campaign which I've never even attempted in the 4 years I've owned the game 😅
Currently on the 5th chapter of Trek to Yomi! Absolutely loving it. Do yourself a favour and play it with headphones on! Also getting towards the end of The Ascent. It’s not perfect but it I’m addicted and it’s my game of 2022 so far. If you’re a fan of Ruiner I definitely recommend picking it up. Might try to fit in some Rocket League with my mates, too.
I'll be playing Genshin Impact...like always. Really want Mistsplitter for my Ayaka, and I'm so close to a pity. Glad that 2.7 got delayed; that really worked out for me. Very pog.
I'm also really loving Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodhunt. Lot of issues, but it's a very good BR, and it's already getting a lot of updates. Also that vampire drip!... Definitely cosmetics done right!
Think I might start up Valkyria Chronicles. I've gotten half way on the PS3, never finished it. Need to.
Might also play Resident Evil 2. Got a hankering for survival horror. Also bought Tormented Souls, it's alright. Pretty jank, but I like what they were going for!
And then some Sifu and Elden Ring probably. Master mode is calling my name, and I want to make a viable bow/dagger build.
I'll also be playing another game that I uh...well...I can't discuss, but I am loving it. Perks from the job... Can't wait for it to be shown off.
And lastly, I'm gonna try Trek to Yomi on PC Gamepass.
I haven’t played any games all week sadly but I want to try and start trek to yomi on the xbox.
Also want to try and continue FE fates birthright on my 3DS.
Hope it works out but I’m just not feeling it atm.
PS5: More Demon’s Souls, nearing the end now, fantastic game really. Seriously considering picking up Dark Souls: Remastered next.
XSX: Trek to Yomi and Lost in Random. About to wrap things up here, too. Unique game, definitely enjoyable.
Thinking about picking up Destiny 2: The Witch Queen. I was an avid D2 fan for quite some time but ultimately decided to drop it completely. I wonder if it’s possible to just jump back in only for the campaign? Heard some really good stuff about the latest expansion.
I just bought Ghostwire Tokyo in the sale so that I have a proper PS5 game to play. Otherwise I'm playing through Kena Bridge of Spirits with my daughter, and will take a break from Nioh. I might continue playing Trek to Yomi.
Still playing Ys 8 on my ps5. Absolutely gem of an action jrpg. It just works for me that game. Am like 50 hours in and nowhere near done yet.
On my xsx im playing cyberpunk. It isn't a pretty good game like 7 out of 10 material, nothing really special but also not bad and the next gen improvements do make it better than it was
Having finished the plat for FotNS Lost Paradise this week I’d been planning to jump straight into Tales of Arise. Unfortunately I’m stuck into a “just one more go” loop on Slay the Spire. Ridiculously addictive.
Narita Boy on PS5 and The Surge on XSX. Have a good weekend all!
Still Elden Ring and GT7.
I'm 170+ hours in to Elden Ring now. Still on my first run. Loving it.
Salt and Sacrifice is out in a few days too so I might dabble with Salt and Sanctuary again.
Mostly Elden Ring. I only bought it a few weeks ago (initially put off by the high difficulty) but I’m enjoying it! Not only that, but since posting here last weekend, I’ve killed 3 bosses! Needless to say I’m quite chuffed. My first success was that ghostly figure in the boat (I just kept circling him on my horse!), then the creature that gives you Bloodhound’s fang. But this morning I went back to face Margit the fell…and beat him! Full disclosure though, I did summon both a cooperator AND used Spirit ashes (Jellyfish) but I don’t care….I need all the help I can get 😂 Now, onto Stormveil Castle…
Still the legendary ELDEN RING only. I've hit exactly 200hrs and defeated about 5 main Great Enemies. The sense of exploration and discovery in this game is up there with RDR2. I missed the summon for Melina at the entrance and almost beat Morgott with just my ashes to an inch of his life. I summoned her and finished him off. Elden Ring is deserving of the 96 on MC no doubt. Such a masterpiece!
I've had to step away from Yakuza:Like a Dragon before I throw my controller. Ahhhhhhhh orbital laser. 😂😂😂. I've had a couple days break from it and it still annoys me. Instead I've gone back to the sims as I need to shut my brain off.
Finished Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Torna middle of the week which left me depressed not just because of the ending but that's me down with Xenoblade until July. Gonna play Triangle Strategy this weekend which I recently got.
@PenguinLtd I had exactly the same issues with the game not to mention Aloy just saying "I don't have time world ending bye" to all her friends when they're happy to see her and being polite.
Sifu Vengeance Edition! Awesome game, Im trying to 'git gud' This is taking me back to my Sekiro challenge. Also playing Trek To Yomi When taking a break on Sifu
Some Icewind Dale for me!
Been bashing Hades this last week on the ps5. Only got to the boss of area 3 and swiftly died. Might fire up the wheel and play some GT later as its been over a month. After completing the Menu's i dropped off it a bit as i really dont like the challenge mode of having to overtake a set ammount of cars etc. May try and get back in to Sifu too.
Still playing ratchet and clank a crack in time on ps now. I really should of played this and into the nexus before I played rift apart because it looks awful to me now 😳
I thought it would be Dying Light, but so far the free enhanced edition upgrade doesn't work! Why have so many publications advertised the free upgrade but not one has followed up criticizing that so far it's a total lie?
Ring Fit Adventure on switch, it's part of my daily routine first thing in the morning in my quest to get in shape.
Started GotG and Flynn son of crimson on PS5 but away out for fresh air today will maybe play them tonight.
Will also be continuing to build the Lego Tallneck, done the base which looks great and the first part of the Tallneck.
Have a great weekend everyone no matter what you are getting up to!
Epic Chef PS4
After UA army has kicked russians off the Kyiv suburbs, I can finally enjoy my pre-ordered Elden Ring.
Alas, Air raid sirens break the immersion..
I'm still chipping away at Lego Skywalker Saga. I've competed all the planets in free play, just need to replay the episode levels to collect the minikits and challenges.
I'm also running through Horizon Forbidden West. Another big, time consuming game.
Elden ring..just finished my first play through and i still have a few things left to finish on it..but the games so damn good i just dont feel the need to rush..defo got my moneys worth and then some from this..
Managed to get ADF files working on the A500 mini, so may play some Lotus Turbo Challenge 2-3. Also have some other Amiga games from old Retro Gamer cover discs I have to try out. On PS4 will might try and play some more Elden Ring, but also started Horizen: Forbidden West.
Im playing darkest dungeon.best indie games ever next to streets of rage 4.the iconic and amazing resident evil 4. Curse of the dead gods.this game is amazing.its already a instant classic for me.it kind of play like hades. Watching nba playoffs.watching the movie the night house.watching in living color.good times.sanford and sons.saved by the bell and martin.word up son
Trek to Yomi on Series S, Forbidden West on PS5 and Kirby on Switch
Knack 2 and loving it. I only wish they'd made a third one for ps5.
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk I feel the same way. I gave it a try after playing Rift Apart and man it looks pretty awful in comparison.
Yesterday I resumed my Doom Eternal playthrough, and will continue. I will start The Tyranny of King Washington DLC in Assassin's Creed III Remastered (never played it on PS3). If I find the time, continue my Valkyria Chronicles quest to platinum, only 2 trophies left. And Horizon FW, of course. I reached a exciting point in the story.
I've gotten back into Dark Souls 2. I'm peacefully traipsing around Drangleic, after my battle with the b******-hard Fume Knight. One DLC down, Crown of the Sunken King calls!
IF I get to play at all this weekend It will be Horizon Forbidden West. I'm excited about Salt and Sacrifice next week. Hope the review comes soon! @shogunrok
Finally near the end in God of War 2018! Definitely one of the greatest games ever!
Cyberpunk 2077. I started it about a week ago and am highly enjoying it so far. It was a long journey, but it has been worth the wait.
Tried sifu again still hard even on the easy mode! So trek to yomi & elden ring
Luckily not working this weekend. If I can find some gaming time it will be something with the kids or continuing Horizon FW.
I've started reading William Gibson's Neuromancer so of course I'm playing Cyberpunk 2077 again.
Alice Madness Returns dlc and Turok on x360, and now I have a new 2ds, play some of the many games I bought recently after everything downloads of course.
@TheArt I agree. It’s a weird game (for me at least) in that there are no quests, missions etc, but as you rightly say the sense of exploration is wonderful. You really want to seek out every nook and cranny, wondering what lies around the next corner.
The ascent and Hell let loose with little farts of gt7 and everybody’s golf
Have been smashing through some bosses in elden ring, just beat the full-grown Fallingstar beast and the lichdragon fortissax this morning and managed another shardbearer last night. My copy of lego star wars the skywalker saga arrives this avo and looking forward to some family friendly gaming fun. Have a good one folks!!
@UltimateOtaku91 For trials of cold steel, do you need to play any prior games or is it a standalone story?
Just curious, how can you play so many different long games at the same time?
Do you allocate a certain time for each or do you play what ever you feel like playing?
Mass effect andromeda. Almost platinum.
Finally at what has to be the final boss of Elden Ring. Still have a few things I’d like to check off the list. What an epic adventure it has been. A truly special game!
Elden Ring and a bit of Genshin.
I just finished Anno: Mutationem last night. A very charming little game for sure! I would have gotten the platinum too but unfortunately one of the trophies bugged out and didn't pop for me and would require an entire second playthrough so maybe another time.
As for what's next? Not sure really. Could jump back into Cyberpunk to try and finish that up since Elden Ring interrupted me the first time around. Will definitely be playing some sweet sweet Halo Infinite though!
Still back in and forth with WWE 2K22 and King of Fighters 15 on PS4. I kinda want to get in a game I have in my backlog.
Aiming to platinum Sifu and finish Elden Ring. Then little sprinkles of GT7 and Blood Hunt. I’m a sucker for vampires and the atmosphere. Lastly, if my child does make his arrival this weekend I’ll play some Triangle Strategy on Switch in between hospital naps and care.
GT7, pushing to get gold in the hour race at Maggiore
Diablo II Resurrected on the Ladder after the patch 2.4, raising my cold/blizz soso.
So many people still playing this game after so many years... unbelievable!
@Dr-M Trails of cold steel 1-4 are all part of the same world and story with most of the same characters, so I'd definitely start with number 1.
As for what games I play I usually pick two main games for both the switch and playstation 5 and just switch between them every day, for today il play 2 hours of fire emblem then 2-3 hours of trails of cold steel, then tomorrow would be the other two games I'm playing.
@Dr-M The reason I complete so many long games though is be ayse I cut out TV series from my life, I still watch TV and films occasionally but in terms of TV series on Netflix, now tw etc I gave them up, it was impossible to play all the games I wanted to, watch TV series, watch football and watch anime so had to give one up.
If I have time to play games this weekend, definitely going to be playing Elden Ring, as I have been since it launched. In my life, I can only game for maybe 3-8 hours a week, honestly, so I feel like I may be playing Elden Ring through the end of summer. Lol. But I’m still finding new things and game mechanics with every session. If I play today, it’ll be my first time playing to essentially grind level my character. I’ve been stuck at the Fire Giant for two weeks now, so I’m going to try to level myself up to level 100. I just get so impatient fighting him in that second phase every time and get rolled over. Maybe if I can whittle his health more quickly, I’ll be able to do more.
I’m also sort of interested in trying Citizen Sleeper on Gamepass
Playing Uncharted 3.
I'm pretty close to the end after like 10 years.
Twisted Metal 2 (PS) - Only need to beat the game with three more characters now.
CarneyVale: Showtime (Windows Phone) - At the end now.
ExZeus 2 (Windows Phone) - Still trying to improve high scores in the later levels.
I'm hoping to start Sifu since I'm almost done with Demon Turf.
Elden Ring!!!! I don’t want anything else
@Nightcrawler71 sounds like your having a blast! Elden Ring GOTY!
@Blacksmith1985 damn bro that sounds awful, but atleast you get to enjoy the one they refer to as Elden Ring
@AnthonyStark86 DS2 was so good an underrated! You’re making me want to return. Have you played other fromsoft games? If so which is your favorite title ?
Switch
No More Heroes 2
Just burned through the first game over last week - had played it back on the Wii and its a deserved cult classic despite its extreme rough edges. First time trying the sequel and its a highly improved version of the original. Gone is the boring commuting, the tasks are actually fun and the combat much smoother. Also the wackiness is more consistent and amusing. Really enjoying so far.
Quest 2
Half-life Alyx
Over the halfway point. Such a great title, slightly bummed due to some tech glitches its not always smooth, will prob replay it on the inevitable PSVR 2 port.
PC GAME PASS
Guardians of the Galaxy
Got Trek to Yumi downloaded and ready to go but figured I'd knock this one off the backlog first. Kind of happy Eidos Montreal looks to have found a better home and this title is more likely to get a sequel, its really impressive so far.
I’ve been playing Sniper Elite 4. It’s the first entry I’ve played and it’s incredibly fun. It reminds me of my love for the (first) three Splinter Cell games I played religiously as a kid. My hype level for SE5 is on another level - so much so I requested time off for two days to play it.
Other than that, I have been doing a few runs every night in Rogue Legacy 2. I beat the second boss yesterday and can’t wait to play more.
I also purchased AC: Odyssey Gold Edition during the sale and will definitely be sinking some good time in that. I played it when it originally released on the PS4 and got the platinum. I haven’t played it since or the subsequent DLC so I can’t wait to try it out on the Series X.
I think I'm slowly starting to lose the tolerance I had for western game design. I've been playing the 1st mass effect and the camera, how you can't move freely when running, and the shaky cam while running is all extremely off-putting. And that's just my main issue. I haven't made as much progress as I'd like cause now I'm kinda reluctant to keep playing but I still want to give it a thorough shot so I'll be playing as much of that as I can
Nearing the end of Persona 5 Strikers, will probably get the platinum this weekend. Have also bought the Ragnarok DLC for AC Valhalla, so will start that.
Rayman Legends on PS4. Well, kind of. I've been grinding the daily challenges every morning. Not loading another game on that console until I get the platinum. I finished it back in 2015, but the lack of the platinum trophy has gnawed at me for years.
@Kairu enjoy! I think Dread had new modes added since I played it. Boss rush mode might be pretty awesome!
Traveling this weekend so my PS5 is taking a well deserved rest.
1. F1 2021 (SteamDeck… GO Miami 🏁)
2. Lego Skywalker Saga (SteamDeck)
3. Trek to Yomi (Steam Deck - need to test it)
4. ANNO; Mutationem Demo (SteamDeck)
Just put myself into elden ring properly as I'd barely touched it since pre order as I wanted to finish horizon forbidden west first, I've put in 15 hours and just defeated Margit, the Fell Omen on my third attempt I'm happy with that, quite enjoying the game so far, might play something retro like Twinkle Tale on the megadrive this weekend
@3Above Sadly I don't think we'll have a review at launch (PlayStation codes were delayed, as far as we know) but hopefully soon after!
I’ve been playing hollow knight for a long time. I play for a few weeks and have to take a break. Brutal game but very satisfying once you get past a particularly hard bit
@Mgene15 I've played Bloodborne, Dark Souls 1 & 2, then most recently Elden Ring. I honestly cannot choose between them. What about yourself?
Learning to appreciate Cyberpunk. What a terrific game; when it’s 25 bucks also resuming Elden Ring at the Lakes of Liurnia. Might get back to Ghostwire n all
Finished Bayonetta great game, going to finish Tetris effect then play bioshock 1 for the first time
rdr2 ,gt7 and snooker 19 career mode so many great games and enough time lol what a time to be a gamer, have great weekend
Not enough time I meant lol
In my case it's the following:
PS5- Mafia 3 (really liking it so far, too bad Mafia 2 is broken beyond redemption)
Switch- Mario Party Superstars with my daughter
PS Vita- Dragon's Crown (love the artstyle)
Have a good one guys and gals!
Elden Ring, Finally made it past the wall of a boss that closes out Act 2, somehow staying close enough to avoid his health sucking projectiles, only to hit another bigger wall with the final boss. Also playing HFW, but that basically feels like filler after ER so I’m considering dropping it for a while until I forget how glorious ER is.
I’m on the final boss of Elden Ring, once I beat that I’m going to go old school and play Overlord.
@Nightcrawler71 You're in for a treat, because even at 206hrs currently, I'm still discovering new stuff and hidden places. It's just a joy to play, can't put it down.
@Mgene15 a bit early to say GOTY but I’ve only done something like 16-17 hrs, whereas I hear loads of people saying they’ve done over 100 hours 😱
@ShogunRok oh rats! They tweeted that the game passed PS5 Cert but PS4 was still pending. Oh well 🤷🏾♂️
This weekend I’m playing through the Returnal: Asenscion DLC. Just finished all the Tower of Sisyphus trophies and now I’m gonna co-op the main game with my son.
I’m playing Death Stranding Director’s Cut for the first time. It looks gorgeous on my OLED tv. I’m excited to keep playing it this weekend!
Just had carpal tunnel surgery, so I have to skip this weekend. Once I' m recovered I'm jumping back into NieR: Automata and GoW.
@CWill97 such a boring game I've no idea how people can play it
@Link41x what a crazy list
@LazyLombax definitely, I'll keep at it. Some of the early dialogue was kinda hilarious, but the story is getting more and more interesting so far. I'd like to see where this all goes
@Ryany each to their own I guess
@Nightcrawler71 @AnthonyStark86 man I don’t see anything uprooting Elden ring, when you no, you no!
@AnthonyStark86 it was ds3! But man Elden ring is up there. I think it’s a tie
@Mgene15 I enjoyed the 200+ hours I spent with Elden Ring. While I wait for DLC to drop, I might go back to Demon's Souls, or give Dark Souls 3 a try.
The Ascent. Many more hours playing The Ascent. I just wish my friends were interested enough to buy it too.
Kaze and the Wild Masks. Great precise control and the level design is on point.
I made the same mistake I always make and got two games I've never played before, at the same time. I got Assassins Creed Valhalla and 13 Sentinels on Switch. I'll let you decide which one I've been spending the most time on.
@AnthonyStark86 3 was the most similar to Elden ring!! Enjoy!
@Ryany Trying to plow through my remaining Windows Phone games that I have left. Twisted Metal 2 has been a blast so far!
I’ve actually been playing Tribes of Midgard and I’m surprised by how much I’ve been enjoying playing it with my brother, online.
HZD FW! FTW!! Its really an engaging game, it takes a while before it kicks in though...
@gamiller1978 dude let me tell you something "getting near the end" and getting the platinum wont happen in a "weekend" you have to get a crazy couple of trophies.. you will have to be level 99 with your BOND and 99 with your STATS for Joker, before you can even get either of these trophies.. on a good day you will have to have put in about 150 hours TOPS. Good luck, but you wont be getting the platinum this weekend!! LOL!
@MakersMark Been playing for the past couple of weeks, only Mask Connoisseur trophy to go, need to get to level 90 to get last persona for that. Current play time is 78 hours.
Just started the Ps5 version of Cyberpunk 2077 actually. Like just just started, about 1 hour play. It’s pretty good actually and I was one of the bozo’s that preordered it and got caught out wickedly too lol. Played it then for about 5 hours max probably on launch and although it ran well on my Ps5 (for the limited time I played it) I was appalled at the PS3 looks and feel it had. Now it looks good, not perfectly gorgeous like the next gen Horizon game but it is a year and a bit older than it after all. If this was the game I got back when it launched though id have been a happy Chappy, and I am now although as I said I’m an hour in so I reserve my final judgement till I’m at least 5-10 hours in and have a good sense of it
Going to wrap up the PS4 re-release of Star Wars Bounty Hunter tonight, having unlocked its rarest Trophy (sub 1 percent on PSNP!) yesterday already.
@gamiller1978 more power to you bro if you have gotten all of the bonds leveled up! Keep up the good work!
Finally finished Elden Ring last night. What an incredible game. Whilst I was very glad to get to the end, I immediately wanted to carry on playing. I will put the game down for now though and carry on HFW. About 15 hours in and very excited to resume and see where the story goes. Will also pick up Kirby again and finish off the final few levels of that.
@PenguinLtd that’s how I’m feeling with the game. I took a breaks from it for a while and played some smaller things. I picked it back up last week and have put another five levels and a few hours into it. And I feel like I’m having to force myself to play it. Where as with Zero Dawn it’s all I thought about even when I wasn’t playing. I’m going to give it a couple more hours and if it’s not grabbing me I think I’ll be done with it. It is a great game as far as quality goes. It looks incredible but I think for me I got everything I needed from this world in the first game. I’m worried I’m going to feel this way about all of Sony’s upcoming sequels. We will see.
Nier replicant for me, i simply love automata and want to try replicant too. So far so good
Played Chernobylite this weekend. Really liked. Not bad for smaller studio.
Just got a ps5 a few days ago, so, having a blast with Horizon, Last of Us 2 and Spider-man. Loving them all.
@Onigumo I actually had sex with Nier Replicant soundtrack playing in the back ground, it was next level!!
@Onigumo I guess saying that the nier replicant soundtrack is almost euphoric like, is probably the most sterilest thing I can say right now.. its really GOOD!!
@The_Pixel_King shout out to legends aswell. Genuinely brilliant multiplayer add-on
@GusBH it’s epic isn’t it. I could never go back to PS4 now
I’m at 78% on the trophies on Planet Coaster PS5. Once that’s done I’m on Rift Apart for first time.. cannot wait…😎
Just smashed out Last of Us Part 2 over the weekend, reeled me in like no tomorrow. The game is phenomenal. Gotta start Ghost of Tsushima soon.
PS exclusives for life man.
