Last week, we asked the Push Square community to vote on the PS5 games that impressed them the most across all of this summer's gaming events. In the poll, we included 36 titles that were shown during PlayStation's latest State of Play, the Summer Game Fest Live Showcase 2024, and the Xbox Games Showcase 2024.
Readers could vote for up to three games of their choosing, and over 2,500 votes were cast. For this results article, we've gathered the top ten in descending order.
Let's take a look...
10. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater - 106 votes (4%)
9. Black Myth: Wukong - 107 votes (4%)
8. LEGO Horizon Adventures - 113 votes (4%)
7. Assassin's Creed Shadows - 117 votes (5%)
6. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - 141 votes (6%)
5. Star Wars Outlaws - 142 votes (6%)

When you consider the sheer popularity of a property like Star Wars and combine that with an open world game that certainly looks the part, Star Wars Outlaws was always going to attract a lot of votes. Ubisoft gave us a fairly comprehensive look at the upcoming release, showcasing the game's overall structure, some great looking environments, and a bit of combat. It does feel like Outlaws is going to be a homerun for everyone involved.
4. Phantom Blade Zero - 151 votes (6%)

Acting as the closer of Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest Live Showcase, Phantom Blade Zero has looked very impressive across various trailers and gameplay clips. With developer S-GAME clarifying that this isn't a Soulslike, interest seems to have spiked, as the title effectively distances itself from similarly-angled projects like Black Myth: Wukong and Where Winds Meet. Ultimately, though, it's all about that fast-paced and dazzling combat — it just looks so damn good.
3. Metaphor: ReFantazio - 218 votes (9%)

It's really starting to look like Atlus has another surefire hit on its hands with Metaphor: ReFantazio. Seemingly built on the back of proven gameplay mechanics that can be found in the developer's Persona and Shin Megami Tensei games, this is a fantastical RPG that looks incredible. The October-bound title received a rousing trailer and a gameplay deep dive, resulting in renewed excitement. Honestly, at this point, we're wary of watching more. Just give us the game!
2. DOOM: The Dark Ages - 293 votes (12%)

DOOM: The Dark Ages looked a lot like DOOM in its reveal trailer — and no one's complaining. Steeped in medieval fantasy vibes and already boasting some glorious gore, this was a standout of the Xbox showcase, as evidenced by the title's placing on this list. It ain't easy racking up 12% of the vote when you're up against 35 other games, but people are clearly primed for more demon-gutting chaos. A vague 2025 release window, though? It's going to be a difficult wait.
1. Astro Bot - 595 votes (23%)

Leading the vote by a significant margin is the one and only Astro Bot — and such a victory doesn't come as a huge surprise. This is a PS5 exclusive that we've all been asking for since Astro's Playroom bounced into our lives with the launch of Sony's current-gen console. Heck, some fans have been demanding a fully-fledged Astro platformer since Astro Bot Rescue Mission went criminally underappreciated on PSVR.
Anyway, the bottom line is Astro Bot looks like everything we've ever wanted from the robotic mascot — and it's dropping later this year!
So there you have it, the ten best PS5 games of all the summer showcases, according to readers of Push Square. But do you agree with how this has turned out? Are you at all surprised by the winner? Argue your case in the comments section below.

I'm going to use this first comment to share some stats from the poll:
Push Square readers really don't like competitive, live service shooters!
After playing the Beta I can see why Valorant is last, I was hyped for this as its one of the most talked about online hero shooters but my god is the game boring and feels flat, and the overall feel of the game is like an indie compared to Overwatch. I must be missing something...
Dragon age the veilguard got my votes.that game looks amazing.dragon age inquisition is 2014 game of the year.word up son
@ShogunRok Very interesting. I think Dragon Age still has an uphill battle ahead for itself. I can only speak for myself, but I felt the cinematic trailer showed me the door and now I’m less interested, even though the gameplay looks fine. With all the other reveals too, I’ve effectively booked myself through December. Not having a release date wasn’t a strong move when there’s a lot of heavy competition saying “Look at me! You know I’m coming this day!” I dunno, just my thoughts on Dragon Age. I think BioWare’s day in the sun may have passed, but we shall see.
Monster Hunter Wilds would’ve gotten more votes if it was a 2024 release.
Well I guess it’s a wait and see to see how good the top 5 games actually are.
But the top two are almost definitely guaranteed to be well polished and have the least bugs as they are produced by solid studios that are used to making these games.
I'd say that some of those games aren't 'mainstream' and the Live Service games they hope to appeal to Mainstream, but Mainstream gamers already have their 'live service' game they've invested time and (LOTS of) money in, games now with a LOT of content etc so aren't 'excited' by yet more trying to push in.
Others maybe were interested, but wouldn't be in their top 3 - whether that was because the trailers didn't show enough, other trailers being more 'exciting' or new/surprising so stood out more.
To be honest, I had zero interest in any of those games - inc Monster Hunter and Dragonage before the Summer Fest of Gaming shows, and the shows did nothing to change my mind. I can understand why AstroBot won on a PS site, it has more 'mass' appeal than most and it came as quite a surprise so stick in the memory most...
Expedition 33 is my most anticipated announced game. I'm chomping at the bit for more. Metaphor is #2, but they'll both be supplanted by a Code: Veronica remake.
I still don't get the big deal about Astro Bot. I really wish I could get excited about Outlaws, but I just can't summon the interest for it.
At least for me, it's cause MH Wilds hasn't shown off anything truly exciting yet with the 2 new trailers it got. It's absolutely gonna be an amazing game no doubt, but I'm looking forward for when they can actually release a meaty gameplay trailer
I do think that this year we have seen that it is not just how good the game looks, its also key to present the game well (eg well made trailer, key info given etc).
Forgetting the games quality for a moment (which does look fantastic) Astro was one of the best designed and made trailers ive seen in a while, where certain other games had bad or just boring trailers.
I love my PS5 and the games announced look great but the title I really can't wait for is Metroid Prime 4.
Sue me.
@Malaise me to but like others waited for so long for nothing
Astro bot is 2024 goty, really think its going to surprise a lot of people how well it does.
@Americansamurai1 As Hi-Fi Rush was for Xbox in 2023, at least from the critical reception. Now, Tango closed with a pizza party. I hope that Asteo will do phenomenally well!
Exposition 33, Astro Bot, and Doom The Dark Age are my top three picks.
It’s goes to show when right now I’m sitting here playing Uncharted 4 PS5 edition.
And for overall gameplay, action scenes, graphics and surround sound. Not much has touched it since, is where we are today.
And that was released in, what for it I had to check and could not believe it 2016 a dam 8 years ago and we have hardly improved at all.
@hypnotoad Yep. And the Zelda game is hot on its heels.
I wholeheartedly agree with the top 3... but, like, a fourth of Nintendo's direct is now above this list for me. Haha!
@ShogunRok I like multiplayer loot loops but live service is *****, live service is audience exploitaition. My vote as for star wars but i think we have seen a lot of good games that summer, i really dont know how peaple say the current generation have not to play.
One of my candidate.

HELLO KITTY ISLAND ADVENTURE
It will be on PS5 too.
@playstation1995 it looks terrible
@Max_the_German i think astro will do a lot better commercially, I think it has a bigger draw with it being a platformer vs a rhythm game. I don't really think tango closes due to hi fi, I think Microsoft told the Xbox department that they needed to make cuts, so out of Bethesda tango was probably the furthest away at delivering a new game
@KillerBoy Well, the punctuation from, what looks to be, a teen (at best) should tell you something.
@Americansamurai1 Yes, I totally agree. I just wanted to demonstrate that the industry is going crazy right now, and even artistical and commercial success (at least Xbox claimed that) can sometimes not be enough to preserve a studio with history.
@ShogunRok true, we really do not like live service game. not one bit.
@Sergo i wonder if any pushsquare users have ever been directly affected by live service . most games that shutdown , no one played anyway .
@ShogunRok nice update it would great to know how all the games ranked.
Also it would be nice to find out how Push Square readers would vote if they had two choices:
Multiplayer (or) Single Player
For me:
Metaphor: ReFantazio
Astro-Bot
Monster Hunter Wilds
DOOM: The Dark Ages
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Plenty of good looking games on the way.
@nomither6 yes mate, we did, hence the attitude.
@Sergo lol ok
