Contrary to common opinion, it’s been a quietly superb year for PS5 in 2024. While it’s been a little different for platform holder Sony, with a unique slate of titles to usual, it’s been excellent: from Stellar Blade to Black Myth: Wukong to Astro Bot to Silent Hill 2 and everything in between, we’ve been having a great time.
But, while we know it’s a bit of a gaming industry cliché, we reckon next year is looking like an absolute barnstormer. As things stand, we’ve got so much to look forward to: Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Monster Hunter Wilds, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – and that’s just the start of the year alone. Things will get really crazy in the latter half, with GTA 6, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and Ghost of Yotei on the way.
Now of course, things will inevitably get delayed – but there’s also the potential for last-minute announcements as well. All in all, we reckon this is shaping up to be the best year yet for new PS5 releases – but if you don’t believe us, sit back and relax with the video embedded above while we break it all down. And remember to subscribe to Push Square on YouTube for much more like this.

I really want to be excited about Amy Hennig's upcoming Cap X Black Panther game (She's my favourite game director), but I'm so fatigued on Marvel I couldn't even bring myself to choose it in my top three.
Death Stranding 2 is an easy no.1. It looks fascinating for all the reasons that aforementioned game looks boring.
And, in fear of sounding very basic, I think Ghost of Yotei and GTA VI have to round out my picks. They're guaranteed good times.
EDIT: Scratch GTA VI. I just spotted Mafia: The Old Country, which will likely be a lesser game, but has what I find to be a far more interesting setting. I'm also just excited to see how they can step up the Mafia formula - they've had a while to cook (and those Mafia games just have a mood).
GTA6 will consume my life. #1 for sure.
Death Stranding 2 is #2 and Clair Obscura #3.
How is Metal Gear Solid Delta not an option?
GTA 6, DooM and Indiana Jones... next year is almost too much. It's genuinely a shame we didn't get some of these in 2024 as there won't be room for all of them next year - I fear AC and probably Indie in particular will suffer from a packed release slate.
Only getting Like a Dragon to continue my LAD/Yakuza physical collection (and the series is stellar in general), and MH Wilds because my PC is in need of some dire upgrades and the spec requirements for Wilds are pretty ridiculous.
Just Trails through Daybreak II for me. Curious to see how the second half of Calvard is going to be!
As a young guy I could sometimes never sleep thinking about my spectrum 48k games. 40 years later I don’t think gaming has ever been better……you lucky g1ts. 😄
I expect we get at least 2 more Sony first party titles as well. Maybe gow related and horizon multiplayer (probably on the same day as gta 6 lol) not to mention probably get some more remasters like days gone and gow 2018.
GTA 6, Ghost of Yotei, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. And I'd also pick Monster Hunter Wilds and Indiana Jones if I could. It's shaping up to be a good year.
Doom: The Dark Ages only 5%?
Incredible!!! People's tastes are getting worse every day.
GTA 6.
Buying it Day 1. Will take a long weekend off work for it. I reckon I'll clock 12+ hours a day in that long weekend.
Death Stranding and Ghost of Yotei are clearly the biggest releases to me (plus Metroid Prime). I’m hoping we get Judas too. Lost Records is something I’m really looking forward to as well. Love Don’t Nod. Next year looks great. MGS Delta, c’mon! Clair Obscur looks interesting too. Heck, Xbox even has South of Midnight, Fable, and Doom all dropping on Gamepass, so even Xbox looks like it’s on a comeback. I hope we see Sword of the Sea and Silksong next year too, and Mina the Hollower. And yeah there’s GTA6 as well. Honestly, GTA’s probably not in my top 5 most anticipated, but it’s hard not to be interested in a Rockstar project.
im pretty sure sony has said they have a few more surprises for next year , so i think you'll see some more sony studios games announced for 2025/2026. i feel like they delayed a lot of games to take advantage of the ps5 pro.
Personally it’s GTA6/ Ghost Of Yotei/ Death Stranding. The 2nd half of the cycle will be a game fest like it always is. Bring it on.
GTA6 will save us all. If its world is as detailed as RDR2 is, then we're in for a real treat.
Also looking forward to KCD2 and Ghost of Yotei.
Death Stranding 2 for me. 1st game was outstanding and the trailer for this blew my mind. Can't think of anything I could be hyped for more bar a new witcher game and the final part of FF7 remake trilogy
@Genghis_Schlonng MGS Delta is still slated to release in 2024 according to Konami. While no one really believes it, that is the official release window so doesn't qualify for 2025 games
@QualityGeezer it was magnificent I thought. Loved it so much I platted it
There's a few games missing for me, Atelier Yumia, Phantom Brave, Fate Extra Record and Trails in the Sky Remake. Plus Monster Hunter Wilds, Expedition 33, Ghost of Yotei and Borderlands 4 is making next year very promising so far.
Next year is outrageous. And I’m pretty sure we’ll get the Wolf Among Us sequel too!
GTA6 and Doom for me. I’ll play Indiana Jones on GP. GTA6 for sure on PS5 Pro as it will look and play best there. 2025 is looking like a stacked year.
@itsfoz is this really a thing? I thought it was cancelled when Telltale shut down
GTA 6 in 2026.
Sorry. Calling it now.
@Mikey856 it was indeed mate. I platinum it twice enjoyed it that much. Just the world was so engaging loved spending time in it to the point it was a rare game that I didn't want to end. And don't get me started on the ziplines lol epic once you set a network up
@LifeGirl there was a report saying it will most likely get delayed to 2026.
Sony could have a crazy year, if they can get Wolverine out with Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei as well, then that would be massive. The dominoes must be getting ready to fall, with Cory Barlogs new IP, Bluepoints new game, Housemarques next game and new IP from Bend, we could be on the precipice of PlayStation Studio greatness for the next few years
Kinda expected the high gta percentage, for me personally am bored of it now, 4 was the last great one for me.
I’ll bet my parents mortgage that one of the biggest of next year will delayed!! Probably don’t need to say which one but Rockstar is involved. October 2026 for GTA 6.
@twitchtvpat last of us 2 remake?
Assassins Creed will get one more delay to April next year.
Wow! So many great games. Im Sure a few will push into 2026, but still a great amount. I'd pay full price a third of these, a small sale on most and a few id play for free. Only couple I won't play are the group games as I mainly play solo or with randoms if groups.
@QualityGeezer you got me! Twice is some going! It’s a hell of a grind in places but I did go the long way around, literally and metaphorically. I just remember playing it for the first time and thinking one word.. Original!! And I’m such a sucker for an original idea 😝. It was an easy 10 from Len 👍
Not much on the 2025 horizon for me so far, just Trails through Daybreak 2 and Ys Memoire.
Seems like this is a yearly article I see here.
@Vivisapprentice there is still the rumored until dawn sequel from firespirte, and don't forget naughty dog is still working on some games they haven't shown yet. along with theres a few unnamed new studios that are working on games , like the rumored uncharted game.
GTA 6, Ghost of Yotei and the next Battlefield entry (praying they right their wrongs!!)
Mafia will be interesting to keep an eye on, as will KCD2.
Civ7 but on PC!
@KillerBoy i'm assuming you are making a joke , maybe you aren't but the last of us 2 ps5 version already came out this year. but there is a ps5 pro patch coming out for last of us 2 if that's what you mean.
There is no way GTA 6 comes out next year it'll be delayed at least once & well into 2026 I mean we've seen nothing or heard nothing for nearly a year!
Not exactly gonna be hard lol. Every year has been ‘next year will be the year PS5 arrives’
@andy24king at best I think maybe 2027 myself. The game is years away! They only announced it to please investors
For me really just Ghost Of Yotei and BLEACH: Rebirth Of Souls
Mine are Assassin's Creed Shadows, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, and Gran Theft Auto VI. Let's go!
30 games 27 of which will probably be average at best
People always forget about Tormented Souls 2 :/
F*ck Assassin's Creed, we want good games.
@Vault_Mcfly I got the first Tormented Souls on sale recently but haven't played it yet what's it like?
For me personally, 2024 will be pretty damn hard to beat. FF7 Rebirth, LAD: Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 Reload, SMT V:V, Stellar Blade, etc are fantastic games to me
And I haven’t yet played: Metaphor Re:Fantazio (waiting for my PS4 copy to arrive from PlayAsia), Astrobot, Dragon Age Veilguard, Ace Attorney Investigations (Miles Edgeworth), Dragon’s Dogma 2, Unicorn Overlord, Black Myth Wukong, Rise of the Ronin, Sand Land, DQ3 Remake, Silent Hill 2, and more.
Did I google “Best PS5/PS4 games in 2024” to remember some of these? Yes. Do I care about my bad memory? Also yes. Still though, 2024 has been loaded. But if 2025 has Hades 2, DS2, and more, it could start to compete.
Gta 6 & Ghost for me although I'm not too sure about a 2025 release day for gta, best case scenario would be late 2025 early 2026.
Im gonna go with GTA6, Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2. But there are a lot of interesting titles on that list. 2025 is looking real good for gaming. And im guessing Sony still has some titles coming out nxt year that they need to announce. We eating good y’all yum yum 🤤
In the first half of 2025, I'm actually looking forward to AC Shadows since I'm a big fan of Assassin's Creed. I'm hoping that this game does well. I'm also excited for the new Mafia game since I loved the first 2. 3 had a terrible gameplay loop so I'm glad I skipped out on it.
Don't forget these games:
I can a lot of developers avoiding releasing any games when GTA6 comes out. A lot of lost revenue lost if they try to release at same time. Because of GTA , I can see a lot of delays.
@twitchtvpat I hope the new studio working on Uncharted turns out to be true. I'm itching to play a new game in the series, i bet it will be a remake of the first game though.
As for Naughty Dog, I reckon it will be 2027/28 when we see them again, after the massive cancellation of Factions they probably only went into preproduction of a new title this year
Plus Hades 2 and Silksong will most likely be released in 2025...
@PuppetMaster 95% of them are years away.
@Dman10 gta 6 ain't coming next year I'd bet my house on it. Its years away
GoY and DS2. For my third I guess I’ll say Crimson Desert, but I really want to say Marvel’s Wolverine. Isn’t that supposed to come next year? 😄
Eh. Down with Ghosts, GTA, and Marvel. Doom's cool, but I'm holding out for Switch 2 port (so what if I own all of Doom on Switch — sue me). Same with Monster Hunter and Like a Dragon. Indy I'm expecting to get on Xbox when I eventually buy a massively discounted Series S (I have a thing about Hollywood IPs on Xbox. Don't ask. PlayStation gets comics/anime... Don't ask).
I guess to push a negative narrative despite this solid list of 30 games: where's PlayStation IP, dangit? Even just an Ico remake would go infinitely harder for me than everything on this list.
For me it goes Death stranding 2, then Ghost of Yotei, then GTA6. But if gta 6 ends up being a banger, that will probably be my most played game. Clair obscura is up there too, and I'm hoping lost records ends up being good. I live these "teenage girl angst" games, with LIS:TC being one of my most memorable games of the last few years
@Cal_ 95%? Lol nah.
Fatal Fury got release date; April 21 2025.
Wolverine, Capcom Fighting Collection 2, and Lunar Collection already got 2025 release window. But the last two games definitely will come out next year. Wolverine probably will get a delay but i'm not surprise if Insomniac right on schedule since they didn't work on Spider-man 2 DLC.
RE 9 is officially confirmed in development with RE 7 director and i bet they're already working on the game since 2021 or after RE 8 finished. Big chance we will see the trailer at The Game Award or SoP. And with how successful RE 2-4 remake, Capcom definitely working on a new remake, possibly outsource like RE3R. I'm not surprise if next year we'll get two RE games.
That left Pragmata, Phantom Blade Zero, and Lost Soul Aside without release window / date. But i got the feeling one or two of them will release next year.
@Cal_ indeed you maybe right. I mean come on GTA V was and still is the best Grand Theft Auto ever, so Rockstar have big shoes to fill. It has to be the biggest and best GTA ever. All they do in the next year will be to please investors not us. We will see. But definitely not out next year.
Indy, Vampire and GTA6 for me. I’m also hoping Assetto Corsa Evo launches next year and will be available on PS5.
@PuppetMaster resident evil 9 is years away it's not even announced yet & wolverine is 2026 gta we know will be delayed at least twice so that one I couldn't say 2026 at best but late 2026 if not then who knows. They should have released the first trailer this December. I can only assume the investors put pressure on them as its obviously still a long way off. Ps6 launch title even. 2028 seems about right if you factor in delays.
@ApostateMage maybe, but I won't be one bit surprised if GTA6 get's delayed. Best case until fall 2025, worst case Q1 2026, but we'll see
The list is a bit meh imho but looking forward to playing metal gear solid snake eater in 2025?
Sorry - does anyone else find it strange that only ONE of these games is Sony First Party... and only one other (that I'm aware of) is Second Party? Hell, there's more XBox First Party games in the list than Sony First Party.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare Yes! It's strange, sad and worrying ...
@PuppetMaster sorry to let you know - Wolverine does NOT have a release window... 2026 is looking just as likely as 2025 IMO
@torquex I know there's going to be lots of hate for this comment - but I agree... the list (for me) looks very mid. Of course there's cracker games (GTA6, GoY), but outside of that (I'm not really into DS2, and for me, I preferred Doom2016 than Eternal) I think the games are like a normal year of middling to fair games (with the possibility of some bangers). I'm sure there's plenty of games that people are itching for... but when I looked down the list, I didn't get that hyped at all.
@HonestHick you know you just said 3 games... followed by it's going to be a stacked year. I have to say, if GTA6 gets delayed, then the year's going to be very quiet (unless Sony has something else up it's sleeve apart from more remasters)
Doom, Yotei and Little Nightmares are exciting, but 2 are cross-platform. The rest I'm not fussed about.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare well for me it’s going to be a stacked year, cause i own all 3 consoles. i am looking forward to Fable, Avowed, and many others from MS and of course Nintendo. So while i agree if GTA6 get delayed which it could, that would suck a little bit. But the overall year of 2025 looks to be really really good.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare I'd disagree insomniac has never delayed a game yet. They are probably the only reliable dev team out there
Most of those games I will get on my PC. But Ghost Of Yotei will probably be a console exclusive for a while. I have my doubts about the new team making the sequel to a dam good game. Trying to completely migrate to PC. So its a 50/50 if I buy it on ps5. I wont be buying GTA 6 on console. I will wait for PC.
@Bez87 Wolverine's release window (even year) hasn't been announced - so if it's 2026, that's not delayed. I think a lot of people are making a lot of assumptions based on rumours. It might well be 2025, but I wouldn't necessarily expect it then.
Mafia Old Country for me. I would say GTA VI but I remain of the opinion it will be delayed into 2026.
Out of all the games listed there are a lot I'm interested in. I might need a second job. lol.
Atomfall
Civilization 7
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Crimson Desert
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach (Most hyped for me)
Doom: The Dark Ages
Dune Awakening
FBC: Firebreak
Ghost Of Yotei (My next years GOTY most likely)
Grand Theft Auto 6
Hell Is Us
Indiana Jones And The Great Circle (I'll play this on Xbox)
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii
Monster Hunter Wilds
Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2
You're sending out menus months in advance of when we can eat🎃
It is hard to settle just for three. Hard choices.
My top five:
1. Kingdom Come 2 - I am just so excited and hype bar is filled.
2. GTA 6 - What is there to say about the level of anticipation for this game at this point.
3. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (actually voted for Atom fall, but this is the true nr. 3) - Sounds like the perfect game movie.
4. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - will I like the combat system?
5. Ghosts of Yotei - Can I get excited for 'more of the same'?
6. Atom Fall (voted third, but adjusted for recency bias of just hearing about it in the video and getting excited about it) - Wow, your presentation has me stoked!
7. Amy Hennig's Marvel game is always going to sound interesting on paper.
8. Mafia: Old County - a mild interest. These games DO have such a special atmosphere, question is have they distilled it into a truly great edition?
9: Couldn't get into Deathstranding 1 - went stale on it, trying to do a delivery from the first 'base' or whatever. This game goes over my head. But as gaming event I look forward to read along as bystander.
So many great looking games, yet so little time to play them all 🥲
For me it was Arc Raiders; I'm the same as Aaron, I've enjoyed the finals so much I'm itching to see what Embark can do with a fleshed out world.
Little Nightmares 3; yet to play the 2nd game, but I love a good atmospheric indie game!
And, of course, last but certainly not least, GTA 6; I'm hyped for this but, with how long it's taking to come out, I reckon I'll just end up waiting to get the PS6 version.
@aaronbayne "16 when the first game dropped, 29 by the time 6 is out" huh? GTA goes back much further than that 🤔 I played the very first GTA in my early-mid teens and I'm nearly 40 now!
@TrannosaurusBex I meant to say I was 16 when GTA 5 dropped, which was pretty much my first GTA, since I didn't play 4 till later down the line!
Glad to see a fellow Finals enjoyer in the comments!
@AaronBayne ah ha, thought that might have been the case! I can't decide if 4 was better than 5 but just let down by the shoddy frame rate.
That's another thing I meant to mention; if there are staff members like yourself who enjoy The Finals, how come you guys don't promote it a bit more by at least making an article for the start of each season? Let's be honest, it needs the boost in player count, especially for ranked PS only lobbies this season 😬
Saw the video yesterday and it reminded me of some games I'm interested in but forgot about them like Marvel 1943 and Mafia.
My most anticipated game so far next year would be Ghost of Yotei followed by Like A Dragon and ofc GTA.
@TrannosaurusBex Funny you mention it because I cooked up a video about the latest season over on our YouTube channel just last week!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6L36qy11cU
But are these, 4 1/2 years after the release of the PS5, redeem the necessity of this console generation?
@AaronBayne Great video! Get it embedded in an article! 😅
Kind of looks like you're playing on PC, but, if you're on PS and ever struggling for a full party, hit me up (same alias as here). We have a large group of decent EU players in a couple of different party chats, I can add you to the more chill party which has no b****ing compared to the bigger chat.
@Jrs1 GTA IV best GTA
Removed - trolling/baiting
Grand theft auto 6.ghost of yotei and crimson desert top 3.follow by assasin creed shadows.expedition 33.etc.word up son
Looks a good year and I’m also quietly hopeful we get perfect dark on ps5 too!
Besides little Nightmares 3, most of what was shown was the usual copy & paste stuff. Yes some look great in video form, but how these titles actually perform & deliver is another matter.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare a very good point, I misread your comment about the dates.
But I do think next year is an exceptional year for games, yes personal choice on what your wanting from games may not be there but you can't deny the list of games isn't as good as you can get within a year, a game literally for everyone in that list.
If you got every Stella game you wanted next year then you'd be waiting another 4 or 5 years for the next round, a trickle of games is better than all at once.
Also Microsoft may have more first party games coming out but that was always going to happen at 1 point in time, due to the fact the amount of studios they have bought and the fact all Phil Spencer has ever gone on about is games games games, yet year on year Microsoft has missed.
Sony has a different strategy now with game announcements due to missing themselves so we may see more first party games next year which they haven't announced.
@KillerBoy you aren't even good at trolling , there already was a last of us 2 ps5 version.
@Vivisapprentice i just go by the rumors they were already working on a single player game even when they were working on factions , idk how far they got along on it, but they had a whole other team working on factions. there would be 2 single player games they are currently working on. i really do hope the uncharted rumor is true. like i said hopefully they'll drop a teaser trailer or something sooner then later.
Gamers have different tastes, for example the only 2 games that have my interest in that list is Assassins Creed Shadows & possibly Borderlands 4, so actually one definite one maybe.
