The PS5 is home to some truly unreal gaming experiences — from the delightful Astro Bot to the often overlooked Returnal. But if you’re new to the PS5 scene, then which titles should you have on your radar? Well, in a new video on our YouTube channel, we detail over 60 of the most essential PS5 games to check out.
This painstaking selection covers all your bases, including iconic horrors remade like Dead Space, explosive competitive shooters such as The Finals, and unforgettable RPGs like Elden Ring. The PS5 has an expansive and varied library, so we wanted to make sure that there were plenty of options, whether you like to game solo or with some mates.
We’re quite an eclectic bunch here at Push Square sinking dozens — if not hundreds — of hours into everything from Persona 3 Reload to Destiny 2.
What's more, the PS5 is one of the best places to play these games, with many featuring haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support, the instant loading times granted by the super-fast SSD, and crisp sound thanks to the console’s 3D audio capabilities.
Which PS5 games would you say are completely essential to any new PS5 player? Let us know your best picks in the comments below!

I promise we didn't just lock Aaron in a small room and force him to play hundreds of PS5 games in order to make this ridiculously big list.
My favourite game for PS5 has been Gran Turismo 7. The PRO has elevated it to another level for me.
@ShogunRok not saying you did or did not. The main question and concern being is he out of the supposedly caged in room and seeing sunlight again?
@RagnarLothbrok Yes, he's out and enjoying the lovely Scottish weather again.
I honestly don't know if I'd say there are 15 PS5 games that I think are 'essential,' largely because many of the great games can still be played on PS4. That said, there are some gems.... Astro's Playroom, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal (not my kind of game but appreciate what the devs went for), Tekken 8, Stellar Blade, Astro Bot, I'd have no problem recommending those. I'd list God of War Ragnarök, Gran Turismo 7, Street Fighter 6, RE Village and 4 remake and the Yakuza games but those can be played on last-gen consoles.
@ShogunRok Wait, why would you punish him like that AFTER his job was done?
Returnal is an essential game.
Returnal is game of the gen so far. Not even close for me. I’m talking a game that’s not cross gen. So Elden ring and cyberpunk etc don’t count.
Can someone just list them so I don't have to watch the video hahaha.
I'm walking in the storm, can't hear a dam thing hahaha
I’ve play 47 of them. My wife will be proud 🤣
OK, if you count remakes, then maybe you put together 60 pieces... If you could make original PS5 list of memorable games, fingers of one hand would be enough.
Tinykin is missing…
@djlard list them.
@Gamer83 I really don't get this criticism. A potato-spec PS4 version of the likes of Ragnarok or Forbidden West existing doesn't negate the fact that the PS5 versions are superior ways to play already great games.
So many great games this gen but it's Returnal that's been sticking with m all this time.
only game not there, unless I missed it, that's on my Wishlist is Space Marine 2
My choice is Barbie: Project Friendship. 😊
The first Barbie game on PS5.
@HRdepartment I couldn't agree more. Returnal is such an incredibly well-done and truly addictive gameplay loop, it's hard to top. For sure there's a lot of other games on the PS5 that I love, but there's nothing else proprietary to the PS5 ONLY that hooks me in and blows me away like Returnal does.
Most of the games featured here, I already own, so glad to see I know which ones are must haves! I would've included more PS4 games into the mix too, like Mass Effect Legendary Edition and a couple others, but that's a good list overall! Some of the games don't really appeal to me, but that's just me.
Last gen games shouldnt be on that list. Thats just poor.
i’ll try returnal one day
@AhmadSumadi Final Fantasy 16, Ratchet Clank Rift Apart, Returnal, Astrobot.
the rest is forgetable, remaster, remake, or developed primarily to run on last gen (PS4, Xbox Series).
For me the only games that I'd consider 'essential' are Elden Ring (admittedly a cross gen game) and Baldurs Gate 3 (haven't finished it, don't know if I ever will, but it is great. Wish it came out when I was a teenager).
Games like Astro Bot, Stellar Blade, GOW Valhalla come close ISH to being essential.
There's Resident Evil 4 of course but that's a remake. A good one though.
I've to say that I really liked this list so thank you guys. I used it to do some refreshments needed to my lists too. The only game I would add is the Crew Motorfest as it's the best Open-world Arcadey racing game on PS5 and it's getting better and better overtime.
My essential games for a Pro owner in particular would be:
GT7
FF7 Rebirth (🔥)
Spider-Man 2
Ratchet Rift Apart
Returnal
Demons Souls
God Of War Ragnarok
Helldivers 2
The Crew Motorfest
Silent Hill 2
Elden Ring
Dragon Age Veilguard
Im still waiting for an actual ps5 game that harnesses the graphical power of the ps5 to come out. Most of the games out now have been barely scratching the surface and have yet to utilize the full optimization. I suspect we will start seeing it later in the life cycle right before ps6 is ready to launch.
Please post the list aswell, I can't stand sitting through videos of people talking, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
@BeerMonster List is in the description of the video.
Though people bemoan the lack of games this gen, there’s more than enough to enjoy.
@Feffster good shout - superb game.
Get used to the idea of cross gen. It isn't going anywhere. Consoles are basically just PCs at this point so the graphics and frame rates can be scaled up and down to suit.
Great list. I'll never understand people bemoaning the lack of games. Maybe it's because I'm older now and have less time but my backlog just seems to be growing and growing. I'm excited to see what the second half of this gen holds.
It would be nice to post the full list in the article. The YouTube description shows it, though - THANK YOU for the chapter stops!
Bundling Astro Bot & Astro's Playroom feels like cheating.
The only game I would add is Sackboy's Big Adventure - that's a blast to play if you like platformers at all. It showcases the DualSense controller like few games other than Astro do, it's a blast to play couch co-op (a dying feature), and it has some truly amazing musical levels that are worth going back to.
It should definitely make the top 60 - there are games on the list I played and enjoyed that I'd kick to make room for it, including Kena and Guardians of the Galaxy.
EDIT: Unbundling Astro makes it 69 games - put Sackboy in like he belongs and call it an even 70!!!
Here's the list, copied/pasted from the YouTube chapter stops (times removed):

And PS4 games like Red Dead Redemption 2 or Bloodborne are much better than most PS5 games.
