We’re a large chunk of the way through 2024, meaning most of the big releases of the year are behind us. But amid the console exclusives and controversial live service gambles, which PS5 games have stood out from the crowd? Well we’ve knocked our heads together to conjure up a definitive selection of 10 of the best PS5 games of 2024 (so far).
In the midst “there’s no games to play” mania, Sony has actually amassed a solid selection of titles this year, from third-party exclusives to regular old releases enhanced through PS5 hardware. There have been some genuine underrated gems this year like Pacific Drive which was sandwiched in-between the goliath Helldivers 2 and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Then the back half of the year has delivered some certified bangers with Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, Black Myth: Wukong, and Astro Bot. Likely one of the biggest surprises of the year is Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2, which proved the naysayers wrong with a genuinely brilliant remake.
With so much to choose from it’s been a tough debate nailing down our top 10, which you can watch over on the Push Square YouTube channel. This latest edition of our top 10 has seen some big release slip just out of the top ranking, which will likely prove controversial to the die hard Sony enthusiasts out there.
Which titles stand out to you as the best PS5 games of 2024 to you? Start reminiscing over the last 10 months and let us know in the comments.

Don't you think you could've waited a little bit longer for 4 weeks? 😅
Well I've thoroughly enjoyed the most
1. Stellar Blade
2. Helldivers 2
3. Still Wakes the Deep
4. Currently just starting chapter 4 of Black Myth Wukong.
(5. Astrobot is currently top of my pile of shame).
A pretty good year again!
"But there's no games on PS5, stupid $ony 🥺🥺🥺"
@Futureshark I think Still Wakes The Deep is going to be in my personal top 5 too. Loved the atmosphere and the setting, and as a massive fan of The Thing, I was very into its whole vibe.
OMG where is Wukong? Beside that great list.
Hm, no love for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth? But yeah, I mostly agree otherwise
Any chance of listing the top 10 aswell? Some people don't want to watch videos.
Been a great year for me in terms of games I’ll definitely play at some point. Highlights are Helldivers/Rebirth and no doubt Astro once I get around to it. Also don’t forget Rise Of The Ronin 🔥
@Yagami Is not wanting to wait a year+ for games like Astro Bot, Final Fantasy, Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin not a reason? Maybe you don't like these games, but plenty of us do.
No REBIRTH?
hilarious.
How is FF7 Rebirth not even in the top 10?!? My favourite - so far - is probably Astro Bot, but also enjoyed Stellar Blade and the aforementioned Rebirth. Games which I bought (damn FOMO!!) but didn’t click with were Helldivers 2, and Space Marine 2. Have only just started the prologue demo for Metaphor ReFantazio, so too early for an opinion yet.
@BeerMonster I gotchu. Stellar Blade, Space Marine 2, Tekken 8, Dragons Dogma 2, P3 Reload, Helldivers 2, Metaphor ReFantazio, LaD Infinite Wealth, Silent Hill 2, Astro Bot.
My top 3 is Stellar Blade, Helldivers 2 and Astro Bot. Only other game I bought for PS5 this year is Tekken 8 but I got bored with it real quick. SF6 I still play regurarly in comparison.
My top 3 excluding Erdtree that would be #1.
1. Dragon's Dogma 2
2. Black Myth Wukong
3. Astrobot
Anyone saying “there’s no games to play” is utterly mad. There are more games released now then there ever was, not to mention all those older releases. It's more of a struggle to decide what you know you will never get around to playing.
For now my current top game of 2024 is Animal Well surprised is it not on this list. But I haven't played Astro and others yet.
@BIG3 Much appreciated.
Kinda strange that Rebirth isn’t on the list, but nevertheless, this just shows that there were many great games released this year. There have actually been two games for my tastes personally that have become all-timers for me - Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Silent Hill 2 Remake.
Rebirth not being in the top 10 is sort of a joke, right?
For me:
1. Rebirth
2. Balatro
3. Astro Bot (though Astro may leapfrog over Balatro by end of year)
4. Prince of Persia
5. Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero
6. Animal Well
7. Black Myth: Son Wukong
8. Bo and the Path of the Teal Lotus
9. Tekken 8
10. Dragon’s Dogma 2
Honestly, if I included DLC, the Alan Wake 2 DLC might be floating at the bottom. Might be. It was two hours, but I liked those two hours more than most two hours I’ve played with other games this year. I’d probably put Erdtree above Bo, but definitely below Wukong.
I’ve still yet to play Silent Hill 2, Banishers, and I’m still early on the Metaphor demo (and just being real with you guys, but Atlus games don’t tend to click with me). If I considered Dave the Diver or Vampire Survivors 2024 games, they’d both leap over Prince of Persia, but they’re previous year games to me. Realistically, Life is Strange is the only non-released game this year that may yet hit the list (…though Platform 8 is such a me game too if that hits as good Exit 8, and I don’t care if it’s an hour… a concentrated hour of fun is better than 80 hours of monotonous bloat). I expect Silent Hill will too. If UFO 50 comes to consoles, that one would have a shot for me, based on what my PC friends have told me. First year that my top 10 is basically all on PS5.
Surprised no one has mentioned concord yet
@Artois2 We don't speak about "that" game 😃
@Artois2 Give Czar a chance. He’s probably having family time right now.
@Yagami It may seems like a weird concept to you, but my enjoyment of a game is not dictated by which logo shows when I boot it. This year has been stuffed with amazing games, and many have been exclusive to the platform.
No one wants PC zealots here, I have a £4K rig and its the worst place to play games - not played anything on it this year at all. Why are you even here - go play games on your platform of choice..
Poor list imo, deliberately missing Rebirth and Wukong which are clearly fantastic titles.
@Yagami TIL 2-4 (within 1 calendar year thus far) = 0. I'd like to go study wherever you learnt maths, maybe I'll learn something.
Expecting more exclusives than that per year, timed or not, is absolutely ludicrous. Development times and budgets for current generation games are far too large for that. How many of these games do you expect per year?
Which titles stand out to you as the best PS5 games of 2024 to you?
Me: BARBIE: PROJECT FRIENDSHIP 😁
My GOTY 2024 on PS5 😉
BARBIE, a GIRLIE franchise on PS5, a very powerful console machine is really highlight of my PS5 game choice.
Don't questioning my choice.
This is what I choose.
I'm different.
I only play kids games.
Astro (GOTY) and maybe Stellar blade.
Sadly i feel this year has been a fair few Technical messes (eg BMW and its frame gen, FF7R's muddy looking performance mode, Rise of Ronin's launch state framerate, Silent Hills framerate particularly early game), or just so-so games.
@somnambulance Nice list bro.
@Yagami
TBF, I was replying to your original post #9 - I can see in a further post that you have a PS5. I thought you were one of the breed who come here to stir and yet have no real interest in the platform. If you own the platform you are perfectly entitled to your views of course, even if I consider them to be way off the mark
My views on PC's: -
OK if you don't have your own home and have to do everything on a desk in your bedroom.
Utterly pointless if you work on a PC all day and just want to sit on your sofa and game with no issues. I have all the consoles, they all boot quicker than any PC and will have me playing games in under a minute. The games will all be working fine for the console and are tuned so that there is a universal experience created by the Devs for the target hardware.
PC, gives each and every person a different experience as no two PC's are the same, and even after you've done all your research and tried all the best published settings to try and get a decent experience, you still wont be seeing what others are.
No consistency of delivery, I must have a million programs to launch games, EA this, Battlenet that, Steam here, Amazon there, Xbox somewhere else, Epic in another direction - its a mess.
PC's always need updating and tweaking to keep them performant - my Evga FTW3 3090 needs a new driver to cope with the lastest games every few weeks.... and the problems with a windows operating system hardly need expanding on - its awful and open to exploitation and malware, while spending your computers resources running bits of code a pure game machine just doesn't need.
It just simply wont sit under a lounge telly easily and just switch on - I've tried - manhandling touchpads and keyboards trying to get games to launch makes a pain.

@Yagami
Any decent PC will become a radiator and make a shed load of fan noise the moment you start playing anything that uses the GPU - it's like the awful ps4 pro issues but much worse.
Many games have awful shader compile times that mean your games are very often stutter fests, no matter that you spent £2k on a graphics card. People have quite wrongly had a pop at the PS5 pro for diminishing returns - look at the PC GPU market where you can spend an extra £500 on your GPU and have not much of an upgrade unless you use a specific game that use RT. PC's invented diminishing returns!
If you play multiplayer, the proliferation of cheating and hacks which ruin games is far more widespread on PC than anywhere else.
I could go on and on- there are so many reasons why playing on PC sux in comparison to switching on a console and sitting on the Sofa, but this post is getting large enough! Suffice to say, I've always had a top PC from even before GPU's became separate (I am an old man), but they have always had big problems for relaxed casual gaming.
As for titles available, I've never had a backlog as large as the one I have right now and I've played games as an adult since videos games first started. So many others are saying the same thing - so much goodness to play, their backlogs are huge.
My PC remains available (I'm using it to type this message on its own 48" LG C1 OLED), but i only Surv the net and occasionally develop something in UE5. I will always turn it off and go sit down with a gamepad on my sofa to chill and play games as its far preferable to me, and having discussed this with several others over the years, there are a great number of people just like me.
So you love your PC. I'm happy for you. Absolutely not jealous in the slightest, but I've no idea why you would try and belittle a platform that has so many advantages over the way over priced
spread-sheet reader you use to play games!
PS you know I'm egging it on , right? You can love your PC, just don't come in here bad mouthing what we are enjoying and pretending you are sitting on a super solution, cause you are really not.
@JAMes-BroWWWn Gracias, my friend
1. Rebirth
2. ASTRO BOT
3. Stellar Blade
4. Balatro
5. Dragon Dogma 2
Metaphor has its hooks in me at the moment but it is so technically underwhelming in every conceivable way that I would not dare to put it on a game of the year list. I have played many prettier ps3 games. P3 Reload is redundant and incomplete at the same time, so it really underwhelmed me and I would recommend the porting of P3P over it. I wish ReFantazio had P3Reload's "not cutting edge, but kind of adequate" visuals, though. Sorry, Atlus XD Not trying to hate.
This years almost over!?
Time flies. January feels like yesterday.
Well, not having FFVII Rebirth in the top ten IS insane to me, but hey each their own.
My top Games:
1. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
2. Astro Bot
3. Prince of Persia The Lost Crown + The Dark Mask
4. Stellar Blade
5. Persona 3 Reload
6. Alan Wake 2 Night Springs
7. FFXVI The Rising Tide
8. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
Still playing Silent Hill 2 and itll definitely be in my top 5
Backlog / Still to Buy
Tekken 8
Banishers Ghosts of New Eden
Dragons Dogma 2
Black Myth Wukong
Flintlock The Siege of Dawn
Metaphor: ReFantazio
This year has been very good.
Top games of the year
1: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
2: Stellar Blade
3: Silent Hill 2 remake
4: Astro Bot
Top DLC's of the year
1: Shadow of the Erdtree
2: The Final Shape
3: The Rising Tide
Animal Well must have been too hard for you guys, huh? Because it certainly deserves to be on this list.
Stellar year, don't f*** me, compare for example with 2018: God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, Marvel's Spider-Man, Detroit: Become Human, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Shadow of the Colossus, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Dragon Quest XI, Monster Hunter: World...
Wow, you put Space Marine 2 over Final Fantasy Rebirth? Colossal oversight. Black Myth Wukong is also missing. Bad critics!
Of the games I've played, I'd go for:
1. Dragon's Dogma 2
2. Balatro
3. Metaphor: ReFantazio
4. Astro Bot
5. Broken Sword: Reforged
I have played a couple of hours of both Stellar Blade and Black Myth Wukong but they have yet to hook me and gone on the backlog.
Man, the writers for this site really don't seem to like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, for some reason. It's (currently) PS5 exclusive and is one of the highest-rated games of the year at a 92. I get these lists are opinions, but certainly that should put it in a top ten GOTY shortlist for PS5, right?
Anyway, SMT V: Vengeance is probably my favorite release of the year so far, but Metaphor is quickly racing up behind it.
@Yagami tbh with Stellar Blade, Astro Bot, and FFVII Rebirth, 2024 has been a much more tempting year for me as a non-PS5 owner than previous ones. If their games stayed exclusive, it'd have already pushed me over the edge to buying one.
Thing is, those games are almost certainly going to PC anyway, so why not wait a bit?
Metaphor ReFantazio is the best game of the year for me. Definitely the one that should win GOTY in my opinion. Love the soundtrack
1. Metaphor ReFantazio
2. Persona 3 Reload
3. Unicorn Overlord
4. Astro Bot
5. Stellar Blade
@Nightcrawler71 probably because it was a mid-tier game shrug
Games I cared about this year (no order):
-Astrobot (skip)
-Akimbot (skip)
-Space Marine 2
-Gori Cuddly Carnage
-Hot Lap Racing
-Another Code Recollection
-Steam World Heist 2
Not many forgetting likely, they were minor or not of note.
Games I actually played that were from "2024" (and those weren't disappointed by at all) and not 2023 and older gen years the 20+ games I've actually played this year
-Another Code Recollection (Switch) (why combine 2 titles, remake them to be generic third person adventure games then point n click for casuals...... sigh, it's a good remake of two games the stories/puzzles are great and all and reasons to play it but it's also really generic too in HOW they remade it to be just so safe in execution).
-Hot Lap Racing (Switch) (like every other racing game was barren on modes, bare minimum design, was passable but not fun)
Those may still play/buy from this year:
-Space Marine 2 (got just have to play it on family system, campaign could have had class actions prep for other modes but nope, I'll probably still enjoy it for the presentation/360 and PS3 era design but I don't care for nostalgia or simplicity I have played the prior one in the last month and other PS3/360/Wii shooters anyways in 2024 as well around the same time before or after Space Marine 1 and enjoyed them enough so a modern one isn't that hard of a jump really)
-Gori Cuddly Carnage (PS4 version, liked the trailer, played the demo, just got to buy it or other games on PSN as well but they aren't 2024 games anyway, but other PS4, Vita games)
-Steam World Heist 2 (PS4 version, when cheap enough, if worthy successor to the first game sure otherwise eh, I got into Sparks of Hope with it's map and quests so maybe I can warn up to the expanded elements of SWH2 then)
Those don't care about anymore from this year
-Astrobot (PS5) Does things not interested in now.
-Akimbot (PS5) Does things not interested in now
Yeah not much for me this year (hasn't been prior years either but I at least got by with a handful out of the handful I cared about for 2022/2023) and even then this year was pretty forgettable but great for me to play retro pickups I guess.
Notice how not the big IPs really this year, nor are they ANY years. Even then what I got Square's not Final Fantasy games of 2022, and some fair 2023.
But if big RPGs or others, for me nah they aren't ever on my list or worth my time. Too long, game mechanics aren't interesting to me, fair IPs but story/worlds and cores I don't care for. So enjoy people that do but nah pass I have no interest in them at all got better things to play that are older or fewer modern games because few actually interest me year after year.
I’ve not been impressed by the PS5, but I will admit I’ve played Eiyuden and Hi Fi Rush released this year and have just got FF7R to play in the latter part of the year. I can eventually see myself getting Astro when it drops to around £40. I won’t complain there isn’t anything to play this year…
…It was Sony who said it ‘had no plans to release any major existing franchise titles before April 2025’. And that’s the point: PS is focused on one or two exclusive massive budget titles a year, but doesn’t care about the smaller games that add innovation any more.
It still surprises me how much praise I continue to see for FF7 Rebirth. The demo was an unplayable mess on multiple attempts. I feel like we're playing completely different games.
Didn't play many new games this year. Here's my list though:
1. Stellar Blade
2. Persona 3 Reload
3. Silent Hill 2
4. Vampire Survivors
Trails through Daybreak is still in plastic, and Conscript is on its way. Don't know if I will get to either of those.
So far for me this year:
Persona 3 ReLoaded (P3 is one of my all time favourite games)
Dragons Dogma 2
Metaphor Re:Fantazio
No particular order. Only games I've actually played
In order
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (Fav Franchise)
Persona 3: Reload (Most Surprising)
Astrobot (Pure Bliss)
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance (I didn't think I would but I did)
Zenless Zone Zero (Stopped but had fun at release)
Dungeons of Hinterberg (sneaky little Xbox game lol...)
Star Wars: Outlaws (guilty pleasure)
Metaphor: Refantazio - If from what I played in the demo, professional reviews and early player reaction is any indications this will probably be number one for me as soon as Canada Post gets their finger out of their arse...anyway it's exactly my kind of game.
@BeerMonster I literally can’t watch the video … is just a black rectangle at the top of the page.
