Topic: Best short games (under 8 hours) in the PS4 library

Posts 1 to 20 of 32

During Black Friday the realisation that I would struggle to fit a number of the games into my life hit home. Horizon took me a month to finish as an example. Persona took me 6 plus weeks and its not even finished. So my question to you guys and gals is what are the best games under 8 hours in length?

Don't really keep track of the hours because I tend to take it slow when I play games. More often then not, I'll get side track exploring the maps searching for loot or completing side quests.lol

That being said, I think some of these that I like take less than 8 hours to complete without speedrunining through them.

Asura's Wrath
The Order: 1886
Vanquish

Edit: Oops, forgot it was PS4 only. Ignore both Asura's Wrath and Vanquish.

This is a good topic that I also am interested in hearing some thoughts about. There is no shortage of excellent games that take 40+ hours to complete, and many that take 80-100+ hours. The industry seems to be going that way. I’m always looking for some short titles to mix in there to keep the feeling like I’m actually completing something.

For me, the best short games I’ve played recently and enjoyed include:
Ratchet and Clank (might be closer to 12 hrs I think), Gone Home, The Unfinished Swan, Until Dawn, MGS Ground Zeroes.
I’ll also second UC Lost Legacy and The Order 1886. Both are very good, despite being short, especially LL.

Here are a few short games in my backlog that I plan to play, so I’ll welcome any input from anyone as to whether these are worthwhile:
Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice, Abzu, Valiant Hearts, Gone to Rapture, Bound, Inside, What Remains of Edith Finch.

I don't really keep track of game hours, I just finish them when I do. Honestly game length isn't a bother I just play an hour or two a day instead of trying to beat a game in X amount of hours.

I'm not sure if some of these games you can complete under eight hours, but they are relatively short, also I really liked it:
Ratchet & Clank
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (I took more than eight hours probably because one stage, I got all the treasures and it was really worth it)
Journey
The Unfinished Swan
Life is Strange
Until Dawn
Crash Bandicoot Remastered (one of them)
Telltale games in general
Tearaway Unfolded
Titanfall 2 (sp campaign)
Abzu
Inside
Limbo

@Th3solution I really liked Abzu, Inside and Valiant Hearts. They are short, but really sweet.
Gone to the Rapture? Not so much.
I didn't play the other games yet.

@KratosMD The Old Blood is shorter indeed, but It's really good, a great recommendation. I still need to play First Light.

@Th3solution "Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice, Abzu, Valiant Hearts, Gone to Rapture, Bound, Inside, What Remains of Edith Finch."

I would recommend all these games as my favourite short experiences on PS4. Top choices Sir!

For me, I like mixing in shorter games because I am lucky to get 8-10 hours in a week. So a 50 hour game is at least five weeks. Sometimes I can do them quicker but these last few months have been a real struggle. It feels good to just pick up a game, play it and finish it within a night or a few nights.

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

Hyper Light Drifter.. if you're good. I died a lot, so it took a bit longer, but you can finish it in a few hours.

Xeodrifter is a short little Metroidvania game, shouldn't take longer than a few hours to complete.

Most indie games are relatively short though; Unravel, What Remains of Edith Finch, ABZÛ, Firewatch, RIME. I'd also recommend Fez, cause I think it's still a good puzzle game if you haven't played it yet, but I'm not sure if you can beat it within eight hours.

@Octane I spent waaay more on Hyper LIght Drifter (though it is now one of my favourite games) but that is all because it took me a long time to git gud!

Great game though - worth the money.

The Order 1886. Well polished story and art direction. Fun gameplay and surely can be picked up for cheap now!

@Rudy_Manchego Me too. I think I can easily finish a second playthrough within a few hours though. Either way, well worth your money indeed!

@Gremio108 Yeah, forgot about Brothers. I also really liked that. It had innovative gameplay with the dual stick control thing, and very memorable story.
@themcnoisy @get2sammyb I have had The Bunker on my wanted list. It’s an easy platinum, I understand, which is a plus. Just hoping for it to go on sale at some point.

Of the ones I have, I'd recommend any of the following:

Abzu, Batman Telltale series, Firewatch, Gone Home, Hellblade, Hotline Miami, Inside, Journey, Last Day of June, Life is Strange, Limbo, Little Nightmares, Sonic Mania, Stick It! To the Man, Tales from the Borderlands, Trials Fusion, Unravel, Until Dawn, The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Zombi

Appreciate that a few of those aren't all that "gamey" but they're still all good to great experiences imo. Inside is probably my top pick if you haven't played that yet I'd make it a priority.

@get2sammyb Ah man! I’m in NA and I checked the PS Store and it’s still $20 for us. Bummer.
