@kyleforrester87 Cool. I saw some huge rat creatures way down there and I knew I needed to go to bed and come back when I am rested and my quick-twitch reaction time is fresh. Besides, I actually think my Dual Shock 4 is on it’s last leg. The R1 trigger sticks and that is super annoying in this game that relies on precision and timing. (I’m trying to decide if I should go for the Steel grey or Midnight blue for a replacement.)
But good to know I’m not just going to end up fodder for some crazy high level demons down there.
@KratosMD Yeah, it’s annoying, but to be fair, it’s the DS4 that came with my launch console, it has served me well through many hundreds of hours of shooting baddies and slaying demons. The rubber-type surface on the analog sticks have worn down too and so the plastic underneath is poking through. The poor guy owes me nothing. I shall have a ceremony and give him an honorable death and preserve him in the halls of his fathers before him (3 DS3’s and 2 DS2’s)

I would advise spending insight as enemies become harder the mire you have. A little bit later you unlock a merchant where you can spend it. You also need it to summon anyone into your game.
THIS^^
It's important to remember. I think my first playthrough I was hording these and getting crushed until I read somewhere insight increases difficulty. O.o HAHA! But save some for that boss you might need help with... you need it to ring the bell for a player to join you.
@Kidfried I’m having fun with it and it’s scatching a gaming itch that I didn’t know I had. A small part of me is now curious to retry one of the Souls games. The Dark Souls remaster might be the perfect opportunity to give it another chance. I didn’t last long with it the first go around on the PS3, but maybe now I could enjoy it. Of course I’m getting ahead of myself — I haven’t even scratched the surface of Bloodborne yet. But I see the light at the end of the tunnel and it is exciting to me.

@Th3solution@Kidfried I love hearing your stories from this game! Kinda make me feel proud lol. @Th3solution I think i too ended in that area. Iirc correctly there are some enemies which scared the **** outta me, besides from the huge rats.
@starhops I was quite lucky as i was always spending the majority of my insight at the bath messenger merchant. Always keeping a few handy for summoning. Seen vids of what it does and its nuckin futs that something not explained that much can have such an effect on the game.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
I’m pouring points into Vitality and Skill now. I’ve abandoned Bloodtinge and Arcane because I see no use for them early game. I hope I don’t regret that later when I can finally get new weapons.
I have found the blunderbuss quite effective against the big brutes who hold bricks in their hands, but that’s about it.

@Kidfried Thanks! It does have that ‘satisfaction’ that everyone talks about. My challenge now is knowing where to go next. 😅 Without a map or any clear pathways, I’m a bit lost atm. I thought the doors would open up at the end of the bridge to point the player in the right direction, but they don’t appear to. So I guess I’ll wander around a little more in the sewers and side areas. This game definitely encourages exploration!

@Th3solution IMHO bloodtinge and arcane are more for a new game plus, as you get some useful items in the later part of the game and in the DLC area, so no point in putting points there in the beginning. Just explore and you'll find it eventually
Yeah, he is pretty fast and difficult. He has 3 different phases and the last one is the most difficult.
Yesterday I played bloodborne with my new game play character and I was surprised how different it felt after recently finishing dark souls 2 sotfs. I realized how much I relied on my shield in DS2 and here I felt so vulnerable but also a lot more aggressive. It was also a lot easier than on my first playthrough. In like 10-15 minutes I got to the first boss and killed him in my first attempt. Now I'll go after Father Gascoine to see how I hold against him.
Has anyone played Nioh? How does it compare to DS and Bloodborne?
@Th3solution Have you got the music box? This will make the fight a bit easier.
I struggled with Gazza to and kept getting destroyed on the second stage. I found make sure you having enough room to manoeuvre key, as I kept getting stuck on the gravestones. If you go up the stairs you should have a bit more room.
Molotov Cocktails can be effective in this fight, especially when he turns into a beast, as his Fire RES decreases while in that form. Oil Urns can help further the damage caused by the fire. Keep in mind that Father Gascoigne is very agile, both as a human and beast, so you need to carefully time your throws.
He is also quite easy to stun with your gun in both phases. Keep a moderate distance from him by dashing backward and wait until he performs his multiple swipe attack and shoot him in the face while he is slashing the air, which will net you multiple Visceral Attack opportunities, making him go down very fast.
@Th3solution he was the hardest boss for me and everything was easier after that point. I didn't use the music box or anything I just levelled up a bit and kept at it until I won. You have to try and keep plenty of distance and be very patient, it's easy to get greedy and get hammered by him lol.
Once you've beaten him you'll have got gud in my opinion
@JohnnyShoulder@NecuVise@kyleforrester87 Yes, I have the music box. The animation when you use it takes a while to develop so I’ve had to learn how to implement it into the fight. But I think I have the first 2 phases down pat. He can get some hits on me but I have been able to heal and stay at full health and peck away at him pretty much every time and get him to the point of his final beast transformation. That’s where I’ve died, like a dozen times last night. Ironically, my very first attempt at him was my best where I think I was probably only a couple hits away from victory and ... the phone rang and distracted me just a little as I glanced away and all it took was one second to get pinned and there is no time to get a swing in, or use a blood vial. He is friggin’ fast and strong. I have my vitality leveled up to 20 and I can only take about 4 hits from him in beast form. And they can come in a flurry of about 10 in a row.
Haven’t tried Molotov’s yet, one thing I tried once was running up the stairs (which is a feat in and of itself as quick as he is - trying to run away usually gets me killed too) and then dropping down to relative safety on the small roof and just heal and wait for him to make a move. He dropped down once and I got several slashes in and knocked him off and I heard him moan, then he came around again and he dropped into the roof again and I got a couple hits again but couldn’t knock him down and he pinned me. Every time since that i tried that technique he pins me and I have nowhere to run there so I think I better give up on that.
The one technique I need to try was I read about rolling toward him to evade, rather than away or to the side. Since he’s so fast and all the gravestones tend to get you stuck and trapped, I might do that later after my sanity has recovered some more 😜
@Th3solution it could be good to watch a YouTube video of someone hammering him. When you actually see it can be done with your own eyes you realise it's not impossible lol
@kyleforrester87 Yes, I did watch some and read some techniques, including on this site. But it was after many trial and error attempts and my fatigue had become a liability by that point. Like I say, amazingly I did best on my first attempt and I think that had to do with being fresh.
All I can say is, thank goodness for the elevator short cut.
