@Th3solution Yahar’gul Unseen Village was the part I was on about before that blew my mind!

Yeah things start getting even more interesting after Amelia, and then even more later. Not gonna spoil anything but prepare to have your head f'd with!

Well done on BSB, felt like forever for me to kill it.

@NecuVise Yeah, actually Blood starved Beast wasn’t too bad with the use of the firearm stun technique. But getting poisoned nearly did me in and I poured through a few antidotes and a bunch of blood vials in the process. And to be fair, I’m pretty overleveled for where I’m at. I’m a fraidy-cat so I have gone way over on my grinding before taking on the bosses.
@JohnnyShoulder Yeah, now I’m trying to decide whether to try to defeat Darkness Paarl, or just go on to the Forbidden Woods. Im thinking I’ll probably do the Woods first and see how that goes. Paarl is supposedly pretty tough.

A question— do most people just stay with the same weapons the whole game or is it best to purchase new ones? In other words, if I just keep upgrading my Saw Cleaver (now at +5) will it be strong enough for late game enemies and bosses? Or now that I have opportunity to buy something like Ludwig's Holy Blade should I buy it and start getting used to it and spending my resources to upgrade it instead? In some games the early weapons are not strong enough even at max leveling to compete so I don’t want to waste time and resources on something that will be obsolete later on. I’ve been upgrading the Kirkhammer also and I used it some, but honestly I just like the Saw Cleaver’s quickness and I’m very comfortable with it now. I tried using the Rifle Spear too but it also is just too slow for me and it has gotten me killed.

@Th3solution Ludwig's blade was my preferred and number one weapon so I upgraded it to level 10 but I had a saw cleaver at level 9. I started with an axe and used it extensively until I got Ludwig'vlade and some time after it but then I dropped it. So I would say try to experiment what you like and what works for you. You get enough basic upgrade materials but higher ones are very rare so you cannot upgrade all of them. Also keep in mind that you get a lot of weapons in the DLC and maybe you will like some of them. Also keep in mind that serrated weapons (saw cleaver is one if them) do 20% more dmg to beasts including bosses.

Tl Dr just pick whatever suits you and play with it.

NecuVise

JohnnyShoulder

@Th3solution I initially used the saw cleaver then went with ludwigs blade, if that is the one which transforms into a great swords. I did experiment a bit, you will soon find out which ones suit your build and play style.

I think I had three weapons on me: saw cleaver, ludwigs blade and Tonitrus.

Was gonna ask about Darkbeast Paarl. I didn't encounter him until a bit later in the game, but probably at the same stage as you. He is one of the few bosses I didn't struggle with and was actually a really fun fight and a spectacle.

Forbidden Woods, I liked the journey to get there but found it a nightmare to get through. I really really struggled with the boss fight.

A bit of trivia.

The word 'gaol' is Old English for 'jail'. The former is pronounced exactly the same as the latter.
The word 'hypogean' is Greek for underground.

@KratosMD well considering he will probably have both strength and dexterity maxed out to hard cap by the end of the game I don't think stats will prevent him. Arcane and the bloodtinge on the other hand could be a problem but we how to be able to even equip those weapons.

NecuVise

Th3solution

@KratosMD @NecuVise Yeah, I’ve been focusing on Skill but putting close to the same attention to Strength — (I think current skill is 20, and str is 18, with most points placed toward vitality at 27) so I emphasize my trick weapon, but keeping str high just to keep my options open for a 2-handed weapon if I want. What I’ve been completely neglecting is Bloodtinge and Arcane. And now I have the Old Hunter Bone I can’t use until Arcane level 15, which is a bummer because it sounds pretty cool and useful.
I want to put points into everything and I also want to buy every weapon, but I don’t have enough echoes yet. Lol. I think the game design is really good the way they have all these weapons and items you want to try which motivates playing longer or a NG+. For now I’ll stay with the Saw cleaver until I can afford the Ludwig weapon later. @JohnnyShoulder — ahh.. the translation makes sense now. They really have put a lot of thought into the world building don’t they? I might give Darknbeast Paarl a run then just to see. I think he’s pretty close to that lantern so I’ve not much to lose if I discover I’m not ready for him.

@Th3solution Yeah Paarl is not far from the lamp iirc. Is a cool boss fight.

I would advise not trying to put loads of points in every stat you will get nowhere doing that. It is probably possible but will have to do a lot of grinding later on in the game. You will be like Jack of all trades, master of none lol. With the cost of levelling up going each time you will better of concentrating on 3 or 4 stats max, instead of wasting echoes on stats that have little or no effect on your build and weapons. Whenever I've played the Souls games there are always a few stats I don't touch (usually faith and intelligence as they are linked to magic users) and Bloodborne uses the same principle when levelling up.

Unless you are going for the Platinum I wouldn't worry about buying all the weapons and save your echoes for the stuff you actually use and need.

Yes there is loads of little touches like that, there so much attention and detail to the world. And some of it you won't even find unless you do a bit of digging.

I love Paarl. I forgot to go back and explore that area until later on, so I wiped the floor with him. He got his revenge in New Game+

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.

I am level 106. STR: 32, Skill: 20, Bloodtinge: 21 Vit:45

I really messed up my build, got totally confused due to youtube videos. First I went with strength, then I saw appreciation for Chikage and started increasing bloodtinge (spent lot of time to beat Logarius for Chikage), then I fell in love with Rakuyo and started building "skill". Now I think its too late to go for skill or bloodtinge build (with 32 Strength), since leveling up is becoming increasingly difficult due to high echoes requirement. So, I am gonna grab amygdalan arm from DLC and finish the game with it. I had lot of fun with holy blade. I Did not find whirligig saw as awesome as suggested in youtube videos.

@Kidfried Its better to kill the sword wielding guy first. But it all comes to hit and dodge. I beat them in my 3rd try without focusing on any one of them.

By the way, best place to grind is Hemwick Charnel Lane from Witch's Abode Lamp. Get equipped with all the heir and moon runes you got and get on with backstab or gun parry viserals. Just Awesome.

If I remember right, the Shadow that attacks from range has pretty crummy A.I. and tries to attack you even if you're stood behind stuff, so you need to get the big rock (? - I'm doing this from memory and it's been a long time) between you, which lets you smash the melee ones. Flatten the ranged one last.

I don't remember much else about it. Shadow was one of those ones that didn't actually cause me much trouble but then I spent eight hours stuck on Vicar Amelia and other people did it first time so who knows. I think it depends on your playstyle as to which bosses you find hardest. I was using the two fast blades (forgot the name) and was too fast for these dudes.

@Kidfried I wasn't even exaggerating. It seriously took me like sixty tries to beat Vicar Amelia. By the end it was like a Two Ronnies sketch.

@Kidfried Yeah iirc I think that's how I finally defeated em by finishing the last one off so it didn't have a chance to summon the snakes.

It was more the surprise factor that got me initially.

@Kidfried I’m right behind I think. I am about halfway through Forbidden Woods. I just found the secret path to Iosefka’s Clinic do took a detour there and kept dying in the poison lake. But eventually I got through so now I need to get through the rest of the Woods to the boss. I also took a detour into the other optional area and defeated the Darkbeast Paarl which took me about 10 tries, but he finally went down. I haven’t played in about a week due to real life, although I can’t say I’m one of those at the pool enjoying the sun, but I’ve been busy. The few hours I’ve had to game I just decided to knock out Abzu instead but I’m getting the Bloodborne itch again. The Woods is a pretty complex area with all those blasted traps and pathways.

@Th3solution What did you think of Darkbeast Paarl? I think I managed to take it down after a handful of goes but it wasn't until later in the game that I faced it.

@JohnnyShoulder DB Paarl was actually kinda annoying to me. I kept trying to roll toward him when he strikes but by the time I could target a leg, he would back up and swipe me or shock me with the shock attack. But I finally got the pattern down and once you can string 3-4 hits on the legs and he crumbles, then the fun is on! Then pummeling him while he’s down just takes a ton of health off. Rinse and repeat about 3 times and it’s game over for Paarl. Honestly I tried the Molotov cocktails as suggested here and it wasn’t very effective for me. It was easier just getting used to targeting the legs quickly.
Also Paarl has taught me (again) that you kind of need to tune out the sounds the bosses make because as they swipe it makes such a huge horrible roaring and crashing sound that it tricks your mind that you have been hit, but you have to trust your eyes and see that, no — I’m still upright and safe, don’t panic, just keep the composure. The same issue occurred for me on Gascoigne where I finally had to take my headphones off because the screeching and roaring was distracting me and making me panic more.

Paarl really really doesn't like poison knives
