So I'm getting well into this game. It's bloody brilliant. Anyone else pick it up?

I have to get through my backlog before picking it up. Can't complain about that I guess.

@Mega-Gazz: Wasn't sure as I haven't played an RPG like this in a long time, and never on console. But I'm 20 or so hours in and it's a joy! Been up till 1 playing it all week, and 12 is my bed time!!

Excellent game. Haven't played it since I finished the review, as I haven't had much time for proper gaming sessions recently. But Divinity is seriously impressive, glad you're enjoying it Kyle!

I picked up this game, and have now re-started this game more than any other game:). Can't find a pair of classes I am happy with!

@Mega-Gazz: What are you starting with? I blindly started with a archer/rouge and warrior. Picked up Johan and Madora in the town which rounded the team off after i taught my warrior some magic. It was tough but I didn't really feel the need to restart, there are plenty of oppertunities to rebuild your team later on.

Elemental wizard was in every combo since they were so good when I tried them. From there I tried a bunch of things to complement the mage, but it was always the mage doing everything and the other guy saying "I can help too!". Then I also wanted pet pal as a talent, wanted one character to be able to heal, and took a whole to understand the mechanics of the skills.... like when I tried to stack dual weird and one handed, or min/maxed Pyro skill in the hopes of improving damage at the cost of too many other things.

In the end I used a wizard with points in all 5 magic schools (4 to start) who was a know-it-all scientist and a dual wielding fighter who was pet pal/politician. The mage is still much more effective, but I'm not out of the first city yet.

Tactician mode of course.

@Mega-Gazz: Fair play, but honestly you'd be able to unlock all the skills you want in good time (and I think you can reset skill trees too, although I never used this feature, allowing you to start over). Pet talk, for example, is a pretty handy skill although I didn't get it until I was part way through the first map and I don't think it affected my game much.

Mages are absolutely essential, what with combat revolving around so many elemental effects, but the best character IMO is the archer armed with a good crossbow. Can cause some devistating damage, especially later on using arrow spray at point blank against big HP bosses.

The mages are of course extremely useful but warriors are just as crucial and abilities such as knock down/rush are a great way to keep the enemies out for a few rounds and nudge a battle in your favour.

Also I would absolutely encourage getting some Geomancer skills, especially summoning wolf/spider. Along with Zombie Nick, that you'll get in good time if you havn't already, summons are a great way to distract the enemy and absorb hits!

The beauty of the game though, is there is no wrong way to play it

Been itching to pick this up. I loved the old baldurs gate and Icewind dale games. I have been waiting for a psn sale on it. I think I'll just pick up a physical copy. New is only $40

@Elodin: I've seen it go low in the last two big sales, think it was down to €22 in the Easter one so maybe you want to wait for the next big sale (Summer I guess?) Just to see if it goes low again. Then again from what I've heard it's well worth a full price purchase too if you have the money handy

@Hego: nice. Think I will wait awhile (if I can). Thanks for the info.

When I bought this game, I, obviously, thought I'd enjoy it. Ended up falling in love with it, & it's currently my all time favorite!! I hope they bring II over to PS4.

ApostateMage

I had to start fresh too because my archer and warrior set-up wasn't working for me. Insead i went for archer and pyro/geomancer along with Madora and Jahan and i'm now controlling battlefields like a puppet master. This game is so satisfyingly good when your tactics pay off, I've never had so much fun teleporting.
Brilliant game.

@ApostateMage: I ran archer and warrior on my run through - it was really tough at the start but once I got Jahan for healing and Madora I turned my warrior into a battlemage and was laughing.

It's kinda a shame you restarted as I feel you probably could have pushed through with it, but glad you're enjoying it anyway. Can't wait for the second game.

Picking this up tonight - from what I have read online though it sounds as if the game can be very frustrating and difficult, so I am hoping I can rely on some of you seasoned pros for tips should I feel the need.

@BodyW-outOrgans: it can be difficult, i wouldn't really say too frustrating though. Don't worry too much about building your characters wrong, get Jahan in your party from the main town for his healing, save after each battle and don't be afraid to reload if you die during a battle as revive scrolls are kinda rare at the start!

I'm playing this with my girlfriend. It seems to take forever to make any real progress, but we're having a lot of fun with it. Every battle has the potential to kill you so it's always keeping us on our toes.

@kyleforrester87: Ok, so after everything I read on the internet, I was expecting MUCH worse. I think if someone has any history playing RPG's, especially early FF games, this is not (too) difficult. It requires strategy and thoughtful use of resources - but by no means was so difficult that I did not enjoy it. In fact, I probably played this game this past weekend more than I have played any other since Skyrim first came out. That being said - this game is AWESOME. The menus make sense and are actually fun to sit in and manage, items are interesting with plenty of detail, the battle system in its turn based glory is how I feel battle should be in a true RPG (and is loads of fun), and the game has a wealth of surprises. The criticisms I have definitely do not outshine how enjoyable the game is, but are noticeable. Quests are difficult to understand as the game does not give very much direction, and on several occasions I found myself wandering around aimlessly looking for a person (that I still have yet to find) - and the town of Cyseal is disorienting and not well designed, as it's easy to get lost in it and it's not very large. Still the tutorial is logged and easy to access (as are quest objectives), and the game will provide some direction when confronted with new aspects of gameplay. But those are minor gripes in what I feel is an amazing RPG that stands tall with early FF games (pre X). So glad I got it.

@BodyW-outOrgans: Glad you are enjoying it!

The battle system is without a doubt 'turnbased done right'. As much as I love FF and the like, too many battles just involve hammering attack. In Divinity every move counts and you can literally turn a losing battle on its head with a well placed move.

The criticisms are fair, it is easy to get a bit lost and not know where to go next. I managed to get all the way to the last dungeon without any help although I missed a good few quests. I did need to use some help to get through the final dungeon as I found certain switches to be really unfairly hidden. I thought some other problems did rear their head toward the later part of the game, essentially as a result of it being a Kickstarter I think, but opening up more abilities and the variety this adds to the combat does help keep the game fresh throughout.
