Is there a way of testing your speed of connection on the ps4?

You can do it directly on the PS4 under network settings and hit "Test Connection". D'uh.

Top 5 Indies I'd recommend you try: #1 Lovecraft's Untold Stories, #2 Moonlighter, #3 Hotline Miami, #4 Inside, #5 Into the Breach.

I very recently read that test is way off. Might be worth looking into it before relying on the result.

Is that a speed test? Checking now.

Yes it is. I'm running at 21.2 Mbps - that's rubbish when I'm paying for more I think.

You hardly EVER get what you pay for in these things.
Firstly, test the connection on your computer by visiting www.speedtest.net
When it comes to gaming raw speed isn't everything, it's also the connection quality that counts, you can test it by visiting www.pingtest.net

When you have done all of this, run the test again on PS4, if there is a discrepancy between speedtest.net and what your PS4 tells you it can be to a number of reasons, maybe you're running your PS4 over Wifi, you will loose bandwidth. If others are using the connection too, you lose bandwidth. Also I found that UPSTREAM is at LEAST as important as downstream, if not more, if youre playing multiplayer games and running a party over PSN with several people.

That said you shouldn't have any trouble playing online if you can reach something like
8 Mbit/sec DOWN
2 Mbit/sec UP
below 75 ping
0% packetloss

Everything above that is just bonus, it won't help you with the time you wait in a lobby to connect to other players. It will only speed up the downloads from Playstation Network - to a degree, as they are capped - and other from that, it won't improve much with higher speeds.

Hope that gave some insight, so if you're paying for 32 Mbps and only reach 21,2, thats PLENTY dude. You should reach higher values on your computer though.

If you're talking download speeds from PSN it seems to be notoriously bad, mine have been very slow recently and I tend to do most of my downloading overnight with the console in rest mode as a result. Online play is generally fine mind you. I do not use my PS4 wirelessley.

@scollurio I understand that, just never knew if we can test speeds. Ive got a bad combination of urban virgin media and the sloooow psplus downloads. Ive used speed test before and its pretty good. I actually used that as evidence to get my package boosted with virgin.

If it's working fine on your computer and you're able to download large files off Steam for example (test with a demo) then it's likely down to PSN. In my limited research it seems not much can be done about it. It does seem to have got worse since the most recent software update but I'm not really keeping tabs on it. I just set it up to download overnight and leave it

Yup great advice guys - I'm going to do that from now on. Peggle 2 popped up when I was having a bash on ff. Completely forgot about it. Great game by the way and only a fiver in the Easter sale for the game plus all the dlc.
