Just beat the first boss - this game is BRILLIANT! (so far!)

Tried it on XB1 but was too complicated for me to get my head round at that moment, but given it a fair run now and wow!

Anyone else enjoying it?

A couple of levels in, as you say the mechanics are weird - but I understand them now ie) if you save your self from dying you double in power and abilities.

I think the buttons are set up wrong slightly - which makes the game unintuitive. But you can tell there's a boss game hidden behind that wall.

I am enjoying what I've played so far, but I've got to say I'm finding it pretty tricky at times, largely due to the controls. Eg I think it is ridiculous that you cant shoot diagonally without moving at the same time, as it makes it crazy hard at times to get shots on target whilst still dodging projectiles, but to stay within the time limit you absolutely need to be hitting your mark!

I think a better control scheme would have been twin stick with right stick controlling aiming, either the R shoulder button solely replacing the shoot/charge function as it currently works, or R becoming regular shot (and being able to hold for continuous fire) and L being used for charged shots.

Definitely want to keep at it, as there is definitely a good fun game in here, but I am finding myself struggling a bit on the boss levels. I did, however, just scrape the speed run trophy (finish a level with 30s on the clock), which I was pretty pleased with!

EDIT: WOW. I just beat the 1,000,000 BC boss at exactly the same point as the timer hit 00.00. It still gave me mission complete, but on the mission complete screen my time is shown as 61.01, which means that by the game's rules of having only 60 seconds I should have been dead!

@SteveButler2210: Happens to me as well were you hit that google place. 0.00 on the clock. Great fun though, and like all good games you learn as you play. Even the shield guy comes in useful (getting rammed by the spike flying cars) stuck 2 of them either side blocking the projectiles whilst 5 commandos blasted away.

But the diagonal shooting is frustrating. At least have a button to hold you still. Its really frustrating.

@themcnoisy: I'm in the middle of the Googolplex boss fight at the moment (been snatching quick goes during toilet breaks at work!), and struggling a bit with the brain at the end and all the static it throws at you. Thinking I will just throw down like 5 Jean Rambois and that should hopefully clear the screen enough to start damaging him!

@SteveButler2210: Buy yourself time and keep 10 seconds for the end 3 of the guy who shoots loads on each platform and power up shoot.

Don't jump around just shoot.

@themcnoisy: Yeah that was pretty much what I was thinking of trying. Hope I've got enough time to pull it off, as the babies took longer than I would've liked. Should be ok though as after a few time outs I had the dragon going down pretty much as soon as it appears, so as long as I have the time outs to spare I should be ok!

Which of the other levels have you done (as they're doable in any order)? The only others for me are the starting set, and the dinosaur ones (1,000,000 BC). I am absolutely loving the sense of humour in the game so far!

@SteveButler2210: I've completed 198x, 199x and 3072 so far. Will do 1000000 bc later.

@themcnoisy: that 3072 boss was giving me issues, so I'm doing the medieval stage now (think it's 632 or something) and will go back to it later.

Just picked up the Phantom Pain official guide collectors ed from Game (who have a gorgeous exclusive cover), so will probably be spending the next couple hours poring over that!

@themcnoisy: still not gone back for that one yet, but I've finished the medieval stages, and am now half way through the Mad Max set, all good stuff!

I also just found a potential game-changer - it is possible to shoot diagonally while standing still! Holding L locks you in your current aim direction, meaning you can quickly flick diagonally and then hold L to lock it in without moving towards the thing you're trying to shoot/avoid. Still a bit overly fiddly if you ask me, but should make things a little easier at least.

@SteveButler2210: Found that put as well last night.

The rocket pack levels are horrible due to the controls. Almost completed (I think) should wrap it tonight.

@themcnoisy: Nice, I've got half of 199X, the last boss of 3072, and the Atlantis set left to do. Should have 199X and most (possibly all) of Atlantis out of the way between lunch break and the commute home, so hopefully will do the same myself tonight or tomorrow!

EDIT: Looking good for tonight, just smashed through the rest of 199X and most of Atlantis with no problems. Strangely for a game where you'd expect the main play style to be shooting, I'm actually finding that for everything except the bosses Lou Don Jim can pretty much trash most levels almost entirely solo, despite being a melee character. Once you know how to judge his attacks and placement most of the enemies struggle to land a hit before his light saber tears them up (also much faster than the conventional weapons)!

Going to give Grow Home a bash at the weekend as well if I can tear myself away from MGS V, as the reviews have been pretty good and I've heard it can be beaten in a couple hours. This month's PS Plus has been a pretty good selection I reckon! (Although La-Mulana EX was pretty tough when I had a go with that)

I need the journey character now on the last 2 levels and having fun. I tried to play the foxtales dlc for never alone and it feels so slow and switched it back over to stfu. Great game.

Still stand by my initial post ✉ the controls are gash. As @SteveButler2210 pointed out it needs to be twin stick. The flying combined with shooting is a nightmare. Even shooting diagnolly is hard even with the lock button. Its weird to use.

Don Lou is a strong character as is shieldy mcblockerson. The other guys are vulnerable.

@themcnoisy: yeah I heard you unlock him and Shu by completing the normal levels, but I only have one thing left to do and not seen either of them yet.

I'm half way through the final stage of Dr Infinity, which is the end of the game, so hopefully finish it on my train in a minute!

@SteveButler2210: I've got Galahad already, he's in the medieval time period. Unsure if I went looking for him or was awarded him.

@themcnoisy: yeah he's the only exclusive I got so far. Thinking Shu has to be a game completion bonus.

Second to last level is rock solid. Bombs being chucked in a zig zag pattern whilst your moving away from the floor that's on fire moving up rainbow islands style. Best advice if anyone's stuck - looking at the trophies lots of people are. Dodge rather than attacking some enemies the fire is your biggest enemy most attacks can be dodged. Coming up passed ladders get Blockerson in place with his shield. Its hard, not even fun when you have passed the level as its just frustrating and the fires a bit too quick and due to the controls its really annoying.

Final boss is easy.

Great game, how do you get journey guy and Sony Boss?

@themcnoisy: I thought it was ok, I just used LDJ to slice and dice the enemies, then I'd rewind and have someone else (eg Aimee) blast the cores to open the doors while he's doing that. Then have one last character be in position to get straight on the ladder as soon as it starts to descend. You're cutting it fine the entire level, but for the most part I thought it was ok if you approach it logically.

And yeah last boss was laughable. Just use the red guy charged attack and keep him alive as long as possible, then reset to the very beginning each time and do the same again, and he goes down without any sort of a fight. You literally don't even need any other characters!

@themightypunram mentioned the last characters are Glorb unlocks. Apparently a good way to get extra glorbs easy is completing the helladeck levels. Not tried yet as I ended up playing Guacamelee and Xeodrifter, but might have a go after that!
