I played Dragon Age for 2 hours yesterday for the first time, As a massive Mass Effect and Bioware fan I was really looking forward to it. I will admit the amount of things, quests, upgrades, maps, apothercarys, armours etc was massively intimidating. I've gamed for years but never put a game down due to being overwhelmed. Has anyone else suffered or am I just getting old?
PS3 Megathread 2019: The Last of Us
Multiplat 2018: Horizon Zero Dawn
Nintendo 2017: Super Mario Bros 3
Playstation 2016: Uncharted 2
Multiplat 2015: Final Fantasy 7
I have put the game on hold as well sadly. I want to really enjoy the game, but the game is so MASSIVE and I try not to miss a thing on the map so I venture of as I do in every game. But then I further myself away from the actual story. This game will take me far more longer to complete than any game I have ever played without doing multiplayer yet.
This is music to my ears to be honest. When I finally get a PS4 it will be one of the first games I get... I'm saving up for one as we speak but it will probably be late March early April before I can get one. Dang bills getting in the way.
I loved it, it takes a whole lot for me to plough 200 hours into a game, I completed pretty much everything except a few minor collectible bits and the odd item due to w/e glitch etc. Its worth taking your time with, the random bs dialogue alone is worth it.
I know I would certainly feel overwhelmed if I played this game. However, my fiancée loves games like this. I'd much rather watch her play it and love it than actually play it myself.
My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."
Given that games are $60 a pop, I'm not going to complain when it's packed with content even if it seems overwhelming, and I agree DA: I was a bit overwhelming. You don't have to do all the extra stuff though. I'd rather have the option to do a ton of side stuff than not have the option.
It is overwhelming. But it lets you decide how much.... I explain. You can waste so much time in crafting your own weapons or just stay with the one you loot. You can collect tons of herbs and make potions, or you can just use the healing ones (as I did). Same for many subquests. You wanna see all the development of the story? do them. You wanna go further in the main campaing? Do only the main one. Also, you do not require extreme exp point grinding to raise your characters. It is pretty well balanced for an rpg, imho.
So my advice is (after I finished the game in 120 hours), don't let yourself overwhelmed, start pursuing the main story till you'll obtain something big (you'll see), from there let the game take the turn you want. Almost nothing is mandatory, the more you do the more you'll know about lore and enemies....
I'm about half way through far cry 4, the story seems to be non existent, the side missions are boring and I've skipped nearly all of them, it's generally fun but ubi has stuffed this game full of meaningless content. DA: Inq. however is full of meaningful content, its up to whoever to decide if its worth bothering with, I decided yes.

I had the same feelings about Second Son's side content, there just wasn't enough variation there to actually pull me back in and I ended up only doing about half of it, once I had the story finished that was it for me.
I'm about 30-40 hours into Inquisition (about 4 hours after I arrived at Skyhold, and in the middle of the quest to choose my class specialisation), but I've put it on the backburner for now as I've got so much else to play, and I don't want to do what Nicola was forced to and rush to the end. I still plan on going back and doing everything in it, as I have absolutely loved every second of it so far, I just don't have the time that the game deserves right now!
Also, I've got my fingers crossed that this will mean some of the glitches will be fixed by the time I return. Nothing overly game breaking, but it was really frustrating when members of my party started to sporadically disappear from my stronghold when I wanted to go and talk to them! I know saving and reloading can be effective at respawning them, but it's still not ideal.
From 16/08/15 I’m going for sober for six months to raise money for the Princess Alice Hospice. Donations can be made here and anything you can offer is greatly appreciated: https://www.justgiving.com/Stephen-Butler5

Some of the times you talk to party members they will move or not be there for one reason or another. An NPC is normally nearby to inform you of thier location currently.
How can DA:I be overwhelming? RPG's should have 100's of hours of gameplay, I love DA:I one of the reasons you've got a lot to do in an excellent world, The Whitcher3/bloodborne cannot come soon enough.

Yeah that was what I had assumed at first but I looked into it a little more deeply and it was definitely glitching. I could search all of Skyhold top to bottom and they wouldn't be there, and at times I was able to exit and re-enter a door (eg at the top of the tavern where it joins to the battlements) and the Party member would magically re-appear. Also once had an interesting glitch where after Iron Bull has relocated to the tavern he was still stood outside for a while at the same time as being sat in the tavern.
Oh, and then there was the time that talking to Cassandra while she was out in the grounds triggered a cutscene that started with my character entering a room that her and Varric (who had been nowhere nearby either) were arguing in, without any warning or explanation for the sudden jarring transition from outside to in - all I could assume was that her character wasn't actually supposed to have appeared outside yet, and should have actually been somewhere inside to start with, and that the game had placed her there prematurely by mistake!
The soldiers training in Haven were rather amusing at times too. I found it wasn't uncommon, if the camera was rotated to the right angle, for me to be talking to Cullen or Cassandra and suddenly notice disembodied swords and shields training nearby where there should've been soldiers!
Like I said, I've not had anything really bad occur that actually took away from my enjoyment of the game, but there's definitely been the occasional bizarre glitch here and there.

Second Son sidequest were so bad, boring and bland... im pretty sure a 5 year old kid could do better side quests
I don't get it, is too much a bad thing? i don't think is cause i love a game with a lot to do and open exploration, makes the game last longer and more enjoyable

The more content the merrier usually, but within an hour I'm forming an inquisition, farming herbs, have 25 side missions at least, establishing camps, finding horses, closing things in the sky, learning how to use the tactical view, making decisions, fighting enemies and I don't know how effective my kit is. There's just loads to do. But I'm sure If I give it a whirl this weekend I will just follow the story (arnold mentions it above) for a bit and slowly eek away at this backlog of quests. Plus I went a dwarf and I should of picked a human character as he seems out of place in the cutscenes.
