Went with the Warrior class, bit boring but for my first try I just thought I'd use that. Really do love the game but wow do I wish the frame rate was better! So inconsistent, which is a huge shame as so far it's literally the only complaint I have!
Still playable but definitely distracts a bit. Otherwise though it's a lot of fun and using the mount was a different experience, really enjoyed that!
Why did they decide to make such a big deal out of "fingers" for the multiplayer elements in Elden Ring. I mean, this is the souls community. It doesn't surprise me at all that "try fingers but hole" is the main message I'm seeing littered all around the floor
So for anyone on here playing on PS5; the PS4 Pro version running on the PS5 is a stable 60fps. Just been playing it for the last hour and performance is much better, sadly at the cost of resolution. I think I prefer it that way personally.
Could be worth trying out, it does mean starting a new character though.
Oh my. I could see myself losing a ton of hours into this.
Not noticed any performance issues so far. I had a nosy round when you first get into the open world. Went in the other direction you are supposed to. Apparently there might be a dragon near by.
I'm playing the PS5 version updated from the PS4 disk, whether that makes a difference or not.
I'm about 3 hours in and have managed to upgrade my flask a couple of times, do a couple of dungeons and beat my first fake invader. So far, its great. What a difference a jump button makes!! šI've started as a vagabond but plan to put a few points into magic down the line to get some spells. It looks great but that's the art style rather than raw graphical fidelity. I'm playing on PS5 and have definitely noticed weird frame pacing/dips, especially when panning the camera. VRR would have helped on my TV (have sony ever confirmed a date for that feature) but this should be a dev thing, clearly it's an issue with the engine from uses. It's in no way getting in the way of the game or even consistent, but it is noticeable.
One thing I think is something of a game changer in terms of difficulty of souls games, is the block-counter mechanic in this game (press R2 immediately after blocking with a shield). So much easier to time than parrying!
Dear Lord the performance in this game is shocking. Having fun with the opening sections but I dunno how From get away with consistently crafting technical disasters. Ubisoft and Bethesda rightly get slated for the same thing.
So I tried a magic build on my PS4 character to see how it is. Not sure what others thing but I found it made it a lot easier, have others found it the same?
@nessisonett I honestly donāt know what amazes me more: the apparent ineptness of their programming department after so many games consistently releasing with the exact same performance issues, or how little it bothers me. Though Iām generally not too bothered by performance issues. Killzone is the last game I can think of right now that bordered at times on unplayable for me, and I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Picking up my copy now. Canāt wait to jump in!

@nessisonett Same here. I'll never forget when Peter Parker decided to randomly climb a wall, then my controller stopped working, then the PS5 crashed, then it rebooted and told me off for turning off my PS5.
Anyway, apart from the crazy woman by the plant enemies, where else can I get spells from? Magic seems really bad so far. I saved up for Crystal Barrage, or something like that, and it's laughably bad.
@nessisonett Didn't know about that until a couple days ago when I watched a video by Digital Foundry and they said, "FromSoftware's engine is notorious for bad frame pacing..."
Personally, I think my eyes are not sensitive to differences in fps cause I usually couldn't really tell the difference when I watch the comparison videos.
@WanderingBullet I donāt really watch Digital Foundry at all. I prefer to make my own judgements about games because everyone has their own sensitivities when it comes to frame drops, frame pacing, motion blur etc. Control on PS4 made me feel genuinely ill and that was when I started paying a bit more attention to these things.

I started as the wretch. Stats even across the board, starting level one. Yeah a club is all you start with, but weapons can be bought or found. Already have flame sling and combustion. Tried the forest sentry, died. Came across Marge, died. Came across the knight sentry, died. Found mad pumpkin head, died. Loving the game so far!
I enjoy DF's analyses, but I don't really let them influence my feelings about a game. A game either feels good to play or it doesn't, and that's all I really care about in the end. But the technical side of things is interesting to learn about, regardless.
Of course, I don't read the comments, since reflexive performance snobbery annoys the hell out of me.

I just finished the final encounter in Groveside Cave exclusively using this. Just stayed away until his final attack, stepped into it, blocked and countered. Repeat. Itās very useful!

@nessisonett I have no interested in comparison videos either. Only watching them nowadays because I don't have a PS5 so they could help me to decide on whether if I want to get some of the games that Iām interested in on the PS4 or not.
