I'm an inverted person, not literally - when controlling a camera. So why is this? Alot of people proclaim it to be weird - but I find it weird to have what's now become the standard (which I think is the wrong way round) when I press back on the stick - its similar to my head moving back so I can see higher up. When I press forward its like my head moving forward to see lower down. Also pilots use inverted controls and they are ace!! Thoughts?

It doesn't bother me. May screw with muscle memory at times, but I've never had trouble getting used to it.

I use to use inverted especially when playing Goldeneye back in the N64 days. Nowadays though I just use non inverted since that's usually how they are set to begin with and I am to lazy to switch it in the options.
@alphadrago5: I wonder if anyone uses inverted horizontal controls? Good point.

I too used to be inverted but at some point, but I don't even remember when - perhaps during the first twinstick shooter I played, Half Life on PS2 - I switched to standard.
I know I learnt to prefer inverted because of Ace Combat on C64.
The example of the 'camera' is because of the pivot point but you also move a camera to the left for it to look right yet I bet you don't use inverted horizontal controls! I really cannot get to grips with 'inverted' controls in general yet often find myself switching to inverted in third person situations - like controlling the batarang in Arkham games. I think this may be more down to the third person perspective and the perceived 'pivot' point but I can't play 'inverted' in first person games.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
I used to use them all the time with games like 007 Agent Under Fire on the PS2, but at least since the PS3 I have been using non-inverted controls without exception. If I press up on the controller, I want the camera to look in the direction I have indicated!
The MGS V prologue really screwed with me when it started with regular controls (which I had specifically checked in the settings before starting), but then randomly decided to switch to fully inverted (horizontal too) half way through, with no way for me to change it until I was out of the bed. I figure it must just have been a glitch, but even though it was only for a few minutes it was definitely enough to reaffirm that inverted controls definitely aren't for me!
The strangest time I've seen someone using inverted controls was actually not gaming-related at all - a woman I used to work with can only use her mouse by holding it back to front, meaning all the mouse movement is inverted. I gave it a go but it is an absolute nightmare!

It took mean about 20 minutes to figure out how to change both the vertical AND horizontal camera from inverted to NORMAL in Sengoku Basara 4. Had I not found the option for NORMAL controls, I would have imported that game for nothing.
The only games I'll play incorrectly (inverted) are flight games.

@themcnoisy: As @get2sammyb said I'm a proud inverter. My excuse is that I grew up playing the early 3D games on PC where the flight sim was king. As a result, my brain ended up wired in a way that makes me better than people who don't invert.
To be clear, it's only Y axis inversion, as anyone who inverts the X axis should be put up against a wall and shot.
If I push up, then I want to look up, simple as that. I can do inverted for the most with flying since that's how it's really done, but otherwise, I can't. Even then though, I had to turn off the inversion for the remote controlled batarang since it clashed with the rest of the game. The only (non-flight) game I can think of I did it with is Transformers (PS2, not the movie game, but the good one) and that was only because I didn't realize I could turn it off at the time. I think I did when I figured it out a few years later.
Only in flight sims or fps's/open worlders with planes, choppers, It wasn't such a big deal when younger, games on the C64 and Atari ST had lots of instances with inversion. Now it feels a tad odd seeing them set up like that automatically.
I think the developers of Pure Pool loved a bit of the weird left/right rigth/left inversion on their camera, come to think of it even Jimmy Whites Snooker did that too... . strange.... Different strokes for different folks I guess...
I stood there chattering in excitement, like a necrophile at a bus crash....
Well I've been thinking about it, and confused myself. In my head if I imagine myself playing a FPS, it's inverted controls. But when I pick up the pad, it just doesnt work if I have inverted on. So then I put my pad down, and think about it again, and yup my brain prefers inverted.
I have come to the conclusion its an age thing. I played a few flight Sims in the past, most notably elite! From there its difficult to swap back.
The funny thing is I can use either now - but prefer inverted as its more natural.
