You know, I was thinking we should do another October spoopy game club like with the Quarry last year so was gonna suggest one of the Dark Pictures games. So with a view to giving the game a majority share by having more than one vote I am also voting for:
The Dark Pictures: Little Hope.
“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
Top of the evening, club members and good friends! Hope you have been enjoying Child of Light!
No need to check the timezone clocks on this one, as I did in fact post this a lot later than I should’ve, though I doubt the North American members have noticed it. (Apologies to the UK members though!)
It’s been brought to my attention that Halloween is upon us. Due to western holidays not being celebrated in Kuwait or anywhere in our region, this has nearly slipped my mind! this led me to consider bringing this to everyone’s attention in case it is something that could potentially influence your vote for the October game. Thanks again to the wonderful members who brought this to my attention. Check the list below for any horror game that piques your interest!
Likewise, I have similarly important news in this update. We received a heap of new additions in PS Plus extra, some added by me, others suggested by you! We have a great extended shelf-life ahead of us! If you’re not caught up with the news, I’ll link the article below this paragraph.
And with that, the voting hour shall finally commence. Very humble apologies for delaying the ping/update post. Votes will close next week and be collected after the next Sunday.
The fate of the universe lies in your hands!

@Yousef- This year has flown by and I didn’t realize we’re already looking at October, which yes, is traditionally the spooky season and there’s a predilection to play a horror game during the month. So despite the title Night in the Woods sounding like a perfect scary horror game, it’s quite the opposite. So my vote will be spent elsewhere this month.
Looking over the nominees, there’s a few that would qualify as horror, namely Outlast 2 (looks way too scary for my taste), Little Nightmares II (I assume that is “II” and not the original since we already played the original two years ago as part of Game Club, which I ended up liking more than I thought I would), and the other “little” — Little Hope. I think maybe Deliver Us the Moon is a tense, suspenseful, stranded in space game…? So it might qualify as horror adjacent, but I’m not sure.
Regardless, I do think l’ll vote for Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope. I’ve been meaning to get into the DPA, and had planned to go in order of release and start with Man of Medan, but I don’t think it’s a requirement to do so. Just a bit of OCD to start with the first, but I think it’s ok to jump into the middle entry. So I’ll throw my support there.

@Yousef-
I've just had a look on hltb and both Little Nightmares 2 and Little Hope are around 5-6 hours to complete so it could well be possible to do a double little horror title month if that's an option.
@Th3solution
I played Man of Medan a while back and it was ok. But no you don't need to have played it, they are all very much stand alone stories. I also previously played Outlast 2 and didn't like it at all. It's one of those horror games where you just have to run away and hide under things most of the time. Get caught, get killed, restart section.

While I’m here, a report on my Child of Light progress —
I’ve only spent a few hours, I think I’m in chapter 3 or 4. I think it’s good, although I’m not sure if I’ll really stick with it to the end. It hasn’t grabbed me to the point of feeling obsessed or driven to play it. I’m not usually a 2D exploration kind of player, despite the art style being quite nice. The RPG mechanics are a pleasant surprise though and scratch a certain itch that I haven’t had in a while. The rhyming narrative is… eh, okay I guess. I applaud the effort. It gives it a fairy tale vibe, and credit for the challenging writing involved. The issue is that it simultaneously makes for confusing storytelling and ends up being a distraction sometimes when trying to understand what’s going on. As with poetry and rhyme, it’s best when heard, at least in one’s mind, and the cadence of verbalizing the text is what makes rhyming fun. The way I read video game text is to quickly scan it and move on, and the game advances the text rather quickly anyways, so the rhyme often loses its effect, whilst also not making clear sense either. So it’s the worst of both worlds.
The controls are a bit finicky and I can’t decide which way I want to control Igniculus. The dual stick control scheme of two characters a nice idea, but it felt a lot better in Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. The full range of movement of both characters is a lot to control at once. I like the precision of the D-Pad for Igniculus but it’s an awkward placement of the right thumb and I haven’t decided if reprogramming my brain is worth it to get the added precision.
I’ve enjoyed it on the Portal, and so that might be its saving grace for me, but we’ll see.

@sorteddan Sounds good. Have you played any of the others (House of Ashes or Devil in Me) yet?
What’s the common element of the DP Anthology? So, like how are the installments different than the other Supermassive games like The Quarry and Until Dawn?
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Th3solution
I haven't played any of the others but from reviews I read there seems to be no narrative thread between them, they are all stand alone stories. The only thing connecting them all seems to be the recurring character of The Narrator, a fairly creepy but slightly humorous fellow who comments on your progress and choices between chapters. He'll give feedback like "I'm not sure the decision you made at that point will prove successful" or whatever. I think I read recently that the actor playing that part has now passed away so won't be in any of the Anthology series 2 games.
@sorteddan Cheers for the link. I liked both Until Dawn (although I don’t think enough to play it again via the forthcoming remake) and The Quarry. And I like the shorter option of the anthology entries, so they should be a big win for me.

@Yousef- My vote goes to The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope . I'm interested as well on Little Nightmares but I guess I'll pick Little Hope if I've to choose between the two games.
@Yousef- Just a correction, but I suggested Little Nightmares 2, not the first one.
I also like @sorteddan's suggestion with having a double title horror month since the games are short. Is it possible to do this @Yousef-?
My primary vote goes to The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope and if it's possible, I also want to vote for Little Nightmares 2 as the second game for October.
@Th3solution I've played Man of Medan years ago (hence why I voted for the second game), but I think it's for the best that you don't start out with that one as it wasn't good in my opinion. It took such a long time before the story got going and there weren't many scary moments. It was rather disappointing so I'm hoping Little Hope is better, which I've heard it is.
Top of the evening, club members and great friends. It is good to speak with you again. Sorry for the somewhat late response, but I’ve caught up with the discussion and can finally provide my input.
First off, thanks to @LtSarge and @Th3solution for pointing the typo I made while copy-pasting suggested games. Won’t happen again. Good catch guys.
Secondly, the votes by @Th3solution, @LtSarge and @Khwarezm89 have been registered, but as a small note to @Khwarezm89, I forgot to tell you that votes should be written in bold, it was negligent on my part to forget to add that to my ping message given that you’re a new member, apologies for the inconvenience. Hope it’s cleared up now.
Lastly, to address @sorteddan and @LtSarge‘x other point, yes! It is absolutely fine to have a double dip for October! And if anyone feels that knowledge could potentially influence your vote or influence you to change your vote, then do feel free to take it into account!
Once again, sorry for both the late and very short replies. I got a lot later than I intended. Good day!
[Edit: Would you like me to count your mentioned two games towards the votes as well, @sorteddan?]

Top of the evening.
Firstly, votes have been added.
Secondly, Toukiden is going to be removed from the game list as per this article. You might wanna have a look just in case there’s a game you wanna add, but won’t be on ps extra anymore. https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2024/09/10-major-ps5-ps4-game...
I’m the only one affected by Toukiden’s removal since I’m the one who suggested it. xD
But it’s a cool monster hunter clone if anyone’s curious. Also made by omega force, musou devs. It’s also an easy entry into monster hunting subgenre of ARPGs in case you were turned off by MH like I was and wanted something similar yet different.
Love and Peace <3

It is great to speak to you all again, friends and wonderful club members.
Last Sunday, I sent this ping a little late, so I thought it’d be funny to do it a little early this time.
As you can tell, it is time to close votes. Thank you all for your feedback. Your votes got registered and the winners have been decided. The worlds shall live on thanks to your contributions.
The winners are…The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope and Little Nightmares 2!
Did that double dip… spook you? Then it’s appropriate for the month! Given that October is not only the spooky scary month, but also Y’know, a single month, it felt appropriate to have a double feature, hope you enjoy!

Have fun with September while it lasts. It was great playing Child of Light and re-experiencing it again with you all! I’ll drop my thoughts on it later and try to get back to messages here I missed. I’ve had a difficulty catching up with old convos likely due to irl stress, but I’ll probably leave that last bit as a convo piece for the mental health awareness thread which I’ve been aware of thanks to two people here, very grateful. Later, gators.
