Congrats to it takes two, fully deserved to win game of the year and Josef deserves it and looking forward to their next game.
And tbh I actually gave out a sigh of relief when I knew it wasn't Deathloop
Super glad Metroid Dread won best action-adventure and It Takes Two is the most creative game I’ve seen in a while. I love the couch co-op aspect because a lot of games don’t have that anymore & Josef Fares has a ton of passion and energy.
That said, I wish they would stop showing movie trailers and focus on games.
Guilty Gear Strive was robbed in literally every category outside of Best Fighting Game, where it was up against voiceless cartoons from the 90s.
A disgrace. A sham.
Missed it but happy for It takes Two. Fantastic game.
Also great to see KENA and Tales of Arise. Loved both. Forza is 100% best racing game this year.
Yeah, a great list. Maybe I should take a look at Arise. The demo put me off though. I haven't really got into the action JRPGs yet
Its nice to see an Indie win big. Also happy Kena has won a load of awards as well.
@ShogunRok What do you mean by voiceless cartoons from the 90s?
Congrats to EA! With EA Originals and titles like It Takes Two, they‘re finally back.
Shocked best didn't go to res, glad but shocked. Glad to see fh5 picking up awards. And arkane getting awards. I called the fh5 sound design at launch. It's the most pronounced sound design excellence I've heard in a game in many years.
Best narrative, marvel. I need to lie down.
Good to see returnal walked away with something. It's limited by being a rogue but it's such a creative concept and the raw minute to minute play is incredibly addictive.
Sad to see that Ratchet got nothing, but overall the list of winners looks pretty good to me.
I am mostly happy with these!
What a load of …….
Very happy as It Takes Two definitely deserved it. Extremely creative game and really fun gameplay.
I was personally hoping to see Resi Village come out on top, but oh well.
Looks like a weak year overall, nothing truly outstanding but some solid games nonetheless.
It Takes Two is the type of winner that people will forget about within a few months, apart from the developers of course.
Take that, Take-Two Interactive!
😛
Halo won Players Choice. Why isnt it listed?
It takes two all the way. So happy for them. Hope it will make developers all around the globe to make more games like that.
My two cents:
Glad It Takes Two won as I'm really enjoying playing with my kid. Nothing too clever in there but just good fun.
Don't really know what Best Audio Design means but the sounds in FH make me struggle to play it. Just anything that is spoken in the game is incredibly irritating, although I assume this isn't part of that award.
Confused why Best Action Game and Best Action/Adventure Game categories exist.
Still a load of games for me to enjoy from that list once the RRP gets to a more attainable number.
I don't care what the awards said there is no way Deathloop is best game direction 2021.
They were way too quick getting out of their seat even before it was announced, its like they already knew.
@thenewguy because this is a Playstation site
I am happy for Guilty Gear strive, definitely deserved it.
Funny enough, I also thought it was the best looking game this year, and its sound track isn't half bad.
Does anyone even care about the awards themselves. Even the Game Awards didn’t care about the actual awards.
@MyThoughts31 the title of the article is "Every winner revealed". And on the list of winners you'll find Metroid Dread which is a Nintendo exclusive and Forza Horizon 5 which is an Xbox/pc exclusive. Try again.
@thenewguy maybe it was overlooked then I dunno. The main problem with these awards is they were obviously rigged in Deathloops favour. No way did it deserve best game direction over Ratchet, Resi and Returnal
I think many nominees and winners from previous years could have dominated this year. This year was decent but in my opinion nothing truly stood out. If we look at previous years, we had the likes of GOW, RDR2, Spiderman, Breath of the Wild, Horizon, TLOU2, Ghost of T, Doom Eternal, Sekiro, Spiderman, Hades, FFVII Remake, Persona 5, etc. I think this year was average compared to previous years. I see the winners as the best of the rest, rather than generational greats.
Really surprised that It Takes Two won any and all of the categories, to be honest. I suppose it’s good on Keighley and co to select an unconventional choice, even if I disagree with it wholeheartedly. It’ll be interesting to see how many publications give it GOTY moving on now.
Bit gutted for psychonauts 2, thought double fine would walk away with something. The art style and story telling are great!
@thenewguy "players choice"? Yeah that's not rigged at all. I mean its not like the game just dropped and it still isn't a "complete" game with missing features and a staggered release of everything.
Maybe people are happy with piecemeal games nowadays...
@CynicalGamer Don't forget Spiderman
@Evosquest why are you trying to discuss this with me. The article claims to list all winners and it forgot to list Halo for players choice. Simple as that.
@MyThoughts31 yes. Probably just a mistake. All that other stuff you're mentioning I don't really care about.
I've not played enough to have a firm view but on paper lots of brilliant games all on my radar and backlog. Congratulations all the winner and the nominees especially Josef Fares + Hazelight.
@Col_McCafferty Have you played it or do you live in a cave?
I'm sad Rift Apart didn't win anything and while I don't agree with GotY, Nier Replicant, Dimitrescu's VA, Kena and Metroid Dread all 100% deserve their awards.
@thenewguy I was making a point about the fact that the "game" isn't finished yet it won an award. No discussion needed.
@Evosquest idc. That point is left field what I was mentioning originally so I dont understand why you bring that up with me. Also, I found a complete list of all winners with nominees as well on another site.
@Akurusu Haha, I've played plenty this year mate so not sure why not playing this particular game means I've been living in a cave.
🤔
@thenewguy I replied to you since you mentioned the fact it won. If someone else had mentioned it then I would have replied to them.
@Evosquest and Im letting you know that was not needed as we didnt talk about the same Halo Infinite thing. Nothing more to it.
@Evosquest
To be fair Halo is absolutely a complete product in its current state. It's honestly my personal GOTY. The stuff coming down the line will just be the cherry on top of an already delicious milkshake!
I do understand your perspective of it not being fully released at the time of voting but maybe the multiplayer simply was enough for folks? It certainly was for me and a lot of people as it turns out.
Too bad that Ratchet did not win something, it is a fantastic game, visual, performance, gameplay.
@thenewguy so there was a different Halo
to Halo Infinite that was GOTY? Interesting...
@thenewguy When I wrote up this list of awards, it was based on the listed categories on The Game Awards website. Players' Choice wasn't on there so I wasn't sure if it would actually be part of the show. However, I've added Halo Infinite to the list now.
@Korgon I understand why people voted for it and if it was standalone then I wouldn't have even bought it up.
I just feel that since SP wasn't added until Wednesday, there's no Forge and no Co-op as yet and it might not be until around Season 2 in May 2022 it does detract from the award.
Does it deserve praise? Definitely. Would it have been fairer to wait until all the parts were out there? Yes because then you get the full representation. Would it change the result? Probably not but people may have voted towards something else if the full game wasn't what they expected it to be.
Anyway that's my reasoning behind it all.
@Evosquest
That's a fair argument. I suppose the lack of forge and co-op didn't effect myself as while I'm certainly looking forward to those features, neither of them have ever been too important to my experience with previous Halos.
It is going to be weird next year when Halo is eligible for nominations even though technically they already won something this year. 😄
@Evosquest Please read Liam Crofts message. Have a nice weekend.
@LiamCroft NP. Just wanted to make you aware one award was missing. Have a nice weekend!
@thenewguy I will do. Thanks for letting me know. I hope you have a good weekend too.
guilty gear voted best fighting game when it feels like it was the ONLY fighting game released this year 🤣😂🤣 . guilty gear strives fine but….no
It Takes Two, lol, yeah, okay.
Congrats to Returnal, Action Game of the Year!!! Well deserved, and a distinguishable honor!
@MyThoughts31 Can you explain to me why Deathloop doesn't deserve best direction over Ratchet or Resident Evil. Please, I'm dying to know
Ratchet with its dimension thing and Resi with the baby chase. So much more original than Deathloop
@MyThoughts31 Lmfao.
Sorry, but those are terrible reasons.
@Tchunga take your tongue out of Deathloop's arse. I really don't care if you disagree with my opinion.
@MyThoughts31 I don't care if you don't care, you made a public comment and I'm going to respond to it whether you like it or not.
And my tongue isn't in Deathloop's arse, I don't care about Deathloop. I just find it funny that the people who are always complaining about "Oh game X didn't deserve the (insert here) award!" And then when you ask them why it didn't deserve that award they can never come up with an actual reason as to why.
@Tchunga k
Halo infinite definitely shouldn't have won players choice it didn't even release until yesterday
@Tchunga You cant really say someones personal choice is bad because its someones personal choice.
@Flaming_Kaiser Well it sure is a good thing I didn't do that then
Not a fan of the awards. It Takes Two is a sublime game....but. it's a game that requires two players and I only game on my own. Single player experience. I have the game and tried to play it with my brother. We enjoyed the hour we played but due to life and work commitments we have not played it again since.
Seems like it won as a statement rather than as an exceptional video game?. That's my view as a non coop, non online gamer...
Personally I thought Lost Judgement, Returnal (to name two) were great games...but there you go.
