With all that said, let's get on with it. Here's our list of best action games on PS4, ranked and rated by you.
50. Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen (PS4)
One of the very best action RPGs of modern times, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is better than ever on PS4, where its last-gen framerate issues are put to the sword. Subtle storytelling combines with a dark fantasy world to create an enthralling experience, and the combat is still miles ahead of almost everything else in the genre. A game deserving of far more praise than many are prepared to give.
49. Alien: Isolation (PS4)
Alien: Isolation may have somewhat overstayed its welcome, but its nail-biting survival gameplay perfectly captures the claustrophobic tone of Ridley Scott’s iconic 1979 sci-fi movie. Assuming the role of Amanda Ripley, the daughter of series protagonist Ellen Ripley, you’re stalked from start-to-finish by the series’ deadly Xenomorph. Up against impossible odds, the game constantly keeps you on your toes, as you’re forced to slip past the enormous extraterrestrial unnoticed. It’s a completely unique experience that hasn’t really been replicated since.
48. Dishonored 2 (PS4)
Dishonored 2 is a brilliant, criminally under-appreciated game that any fan of stealth action should play. It builds upon the already excellent original, providing you with two fully kitted-out playable characters with unique abilities, and both very deadly. Whether you play as the reliable Corvo Attano or his daughter (and dethroned empress) Emily Kaldwin, you'll have a wide array of supernatural powers to toy with, as well as access to a variety of weapons. With freedom to fully explore each level, impeccable environment design, and engaging emergent gameplay keeping you on your toes, this is easily among Arkane's best games.
47. God of War III Remastered (PS4)
God of War III Remastered may have been one of the last hurrahs for the series’ old-school, fixed perspective style – but it’s still an absolute doozy. Presented pristinely on PS4, this trilogy closer has some of the most epic moments you’ll find any console, including an opening boss fight against Poseidon that remains utterly jaw-dropping even today.
46. Rise of the Tomb Raider (PS4)
Rise of the Tomb Raider takes Crystal Dynamics’ reboot and greatly raises the stakes, with more equipment and combat options than in the previous instalment. While structurally it’s largely familiar, and there are some serious question marks over the voice acting and script, the game offers a real rollercoaster of set-piece moments, taking heroine Lara Croft across the globe as she continues to evolve into the wise-cracking heroine we all know and love.
45. Hitman 2 (PS4)
Following on from the brilliant episodic reboot, Hitman 2 releases as a complete game, and it's no less inventive, playful, and endlessly replayable. It introduces yet more imaginative sandbox environments in which to kill targets as Agent 47, and gives you all kinds of toys and gadgets to tackle each mission in countless ways.
44. Batman: Return to Arkham (PS4)
A remaster compilation featuring seminal PS3 superhero titles Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, this isn’t the best re-release ever produced. Handled by outsourcing studio Virtuos, the visual improvements are minimal – and, honestly, at times mess with the sombre visual style of the originals. However, the quality of the included games is undeniable – two of the greatest superhero titles of all-time – and thus Batman: Return to Arkham still comes highly recommended, even if it could have ultimately been better.
43. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Special Edition (PS4)
Bethesda's eternal open world RPG got a much needed update on PS4 thanks to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Special Edition. The original PS3 version was a technical mess, but the sprawling adventure is, as you'd hope, much improved one generation later. Featuring enhanced visuals (and a steady framerate!), it's still so easy to get lost in the snowy setting of Skyrim. It might be riddled with decade-old jank, but its gameplay systems are still super addictive, constantly rewarding you for exploring what is a lovingly crafted fantasy world.
42. Hitman: The Complete First Season (PS4)
Originally developed as an episodic experiment, Hitman: The Complete First Season brings everything together to make for a modern stealth action classic. Rich, diverse levels are stuffed with opportunities for assassin Agent 47, and that's before you consider all the weapons and gadgets he can bring along to each mission. Highly replayable, darkly funny, and incredibly well-presented, IO Interactive has found its footing with the series once again, and it's fantastic.
41. Spyro: Reignited Trilogy (PS4)
Before Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, and Spider-Man, it was Spyro that gave Insomniac Games its big break on PS1. That first trio of action platformers was wonderful back in the late 90s, but they're even better in Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, a vibrant PS4 remake. It features all three classics with a gorgeous, cartoonish visual makeover and modernised controls. The result is a nostalgic package that equally pleases old fans and new ones alike.

Yakuza/Like a Dragon can fill a good 20% of this list
People really use every opportunity to vote "The Witcher III" in any ranking's top 5, even if it doesn't fit there at all. ^^ Next destination: Best real-time-strategy games. Number 4: "The Witcher III". The people have spoken.
My Ratchet & Clank PS4 will join with my PS5 games as the game get 60 fps support on PS5 machine.
I want to replay again from beginning with 60 fps. 😊
Crazy that so many of these games are either PS3 era games upscaled or remakes of older games. Kind of shows where the industry is at in terms of creativity these days.
Surely the only important point of discussion is:
Are any of them fully patched and on sale in a year’s time?
