What are the best PS4 Pro games to take advantage of your spangly new 4K television? It’s been a few years since Sony launched its supercharged system, and there are a huge selection of games that take full advantage of its additional horsepower. In this article we’re going to list off the best PS4 Pro games you can buy right now.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey (PS4)
Replacing its predecessor Origins on our list, Odyssey wins out through sheer variety of
landscapes. Whereas Origins’ Egypt was beautifully sparse in places, Odyssey’s world is more
vibrant and with a larger array of locales. It also adds in more naval battles, and therefore more of
those truly wonderful water physics.

Destiny 2 (PS4)
Using smarter-than-we-can-explain techniques, Destiny 2 runs much sharper by upscaling to 4K, but the real draw here is in the use of HDR. Things like the HUD of a Sunbreaker Titan are now almost a completely different shade as the wider colour range is implemented. This extends to the environments too, with Curse of Osiris’ Mercury looking particularly pretty.
Detroit: Become Human (PS4)
David Cage’s distinct style of interactive storytelling would be infinitely less effective without
immersive visuals and incredible performance capture, and Detroit holds its own on both counts. At
times it’s jaw dropping, the minutiae of each facial animation captured in almost insane detail. It’s a
good job it looks this great - you’ll be spending plenty of time combing through for every potential
ending.
God of War (PS4)
A true masterpiece of game design, visuals, and storytelling. 2018’s God of War looks eye-pokingly good on a 4K screen through PS4 Pro. With the option to choose between resolution and framerate, you won’t be disappointed with either. Kratos’ beard is worth the price of admission alone.
Final Fantasy XV (PS4)
Final Fantasy XV’s world is a meshing together of fantasy and realism in a way we haven’t seen before, with huge beasts roaming the open world that you’re driving through in your snazzy car. This dichotomy just works – but with PS4 Pro you’ll notice more detail in everything from characters to foliage to monsters and even your car. Try heading to Galdin Quay where the light bounces off the water for a visual treat. You can also prioritise framerate if you’d like some more fluency in your teleporting and stabbing.
Gran Turismo Sport (PS4)
With every new generation of consoles, we find ourselves looking to racing games as a litmus test for graphical capabilities and the PS4 Pro half-step is no different. Gran Turismo Sport’s use of HDR makes it an almost entirely different game without it, and the power of the PS4 Pro means a higher framerate. All of this makes for a superlative racing experience.
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (PS4)
Not just a very good game, but an important one: Hellblade’s beauty (especially in 4K) is impressive on its own, but consider that it was developed by around twenty staff members and the true magnitude of this achievement becomes clear.
Hitman 2 (PS4)
While its predecessor has been fibre-wired off the list and hidden in a dumpster, you can import all
of its levels into Hitman 2 anyway - and why wouldn’t you? IO’s latest has more populated areas
than ever before, and new gameplay tweaks like split-screen views and reflections can be potential
game changers for even the most experienced assassin. From Colombia, to Miami, to Mumbai, the
globe-trotting adventures of Agent 47 have never looked better.
Horizon Zero Dawn (PS4)
As far as tech-showcases go, Horizon: Zero Dawn is up there with the best of them. When you see the sunset through the trees, mechanical monsters lurking in the distance, and all manner of flora and fauna in between, you’ll realise you’ve justified your TV and console purchase. It helps that the combat loop is one of the most rewarding this generation and that the story is engaging, too. A fitting showpiece.

Love these lists, keep them coming.
I would also add Rise of the Tomb Raider and Evil Within 2 to the list as they're some of the few games you notice the difference on 1080p TVs.
The Last of Us Remastered says 'Hi!'. Even the menu screen is jaw-dropping, possibly the best example of a remaster too.
I'm still waiting for a pro slim. It'd be great to have a uhd drive in there too. My ps4 is so noisy my ears are ringing when I shut it down!
@Dan_ozzzy189 Will be interesting to see if they announce such a system refresh at PSX, or in February next year
We'll keep updating so feel free to suggest other games!
Monster Hunter World. Best game on Pro, best game on PS4, best game on games
Shadow of the collosus need to be in this list, the 60 fps mode is amazing
Honestly there's so many right now.
I'd give a shout out to Detroit: Become Human and also another mention for Shadow of the Colossus.
@get2sammyb
Hey sammy, great list. I honestly think it’s hard to beat nex machina. The game is beautiful, the colours pop and the gameplay is sublime. I’m lucky enough to play on an LG OLED B6. Simply jaw dropping.
If you ever do a worst pro enhanced list, you needn’t look further than agents of mayhem. Every time you switch on HDR it crashes the PlayStation. Still fun 6 or 7 game though I guess.
so far from my experience, far cry 5 and the evil within 2 has been my best 4k experience, horizon zero dawn and god of war deserves a honourable mention, assassin's creed origins is not bad too.
@roe ah Detroit, i can't forget that.
Ratchet and Clank has the most "wow factor" when it comes to higher res/HDR options as far as I'm concerned.
I have had my Pro since the day it launched and I have never regretted it, even when games that exploited it were rare at first.
As demonstrated in this list, support for the Pro is fantastic now and I couldn't be happier with it. Reckon Doom deserves some love along with Wìpeout, these are both excellent on Pro.
I'd also like to sing the praises of the Sony X900F TV, utterly incredible HDR performance
I would suggest middle-earth shadow of mordor I picked it up last night for an almost 4yr old game I was very impressed!
I never hear The Witness mentioned on these lists but it has the greatest HDR adaption, in my opinion. Walking out of an under ground tunnel into the sun comes close to hurting your eyes. I have to squint to get through the orange forest and past the pink trees. Switching to 60 fps still has a higher resolution than HD and is definitely the way to go.
Ive had my pro basically since it came out but only got a 4K tv 3 months ago and it's been great
@hookedWORM17
Actually, I had forgot about The Witness, I have read that it is really impressive in respect of HDR.
It's on my backlog, perhaps it's time to play it, thanks for the reminder 😃
Have a great weekend.
I would throw in wipeout omega collection there too. Slick and smooth and running swiftly.
Plus it’s awesome in VR
I do love my pro but I really don't notice a huge improvement although my mate seems too when we have game nights. The water in assassins creed did make me stop and look though and I thinks it's the most impressive thing I've seen so far.
no 100% Ratchet and Clank with The last guardian being a close second utterly insane games to look at
Wipeout Omega and.......wipeout Omega.
Also I actually find Skyrim on PS4 pro in 4K pretty impressive......seeing bugs flying on the other side of a river was a real wow moment for me.
Ghost recon wildlands! Phenomenal draw distance. And the bumped res helps it a lot too. And Far Cry 5 is a really good looking game as well. I think it runs at 1600p
Surprised to see Red Dead 2 on this Best of Pro list.
I thought the game looked very similar to the base PS4 (?).
I also read the HDR was badly done and made the game look worse (?).
I'd like to nominate D3 UEE for running in true 4K & looking super crisp.
@GamerDad66
4K isn't just badly done, it's not done at all. It runs at 50% of 4K and has no HDR, you're actually recommended to turn off HDR on your TV so it looks like it should. I mean, you can put the HDR setting on for any game, and it looks different, but not good.
So while it does look good regardless, it's a poor choice to showcase the Pro specifically.
Since I'm usually in for the story I go for res over FPS, but I loved the performance modes for God of War. Made my pro sound like a jet engine though 😂
