A Dangerous Encounter is Case 1-1 of Dead Rising 1, which sees Frank West arrive at Willamette Parkview Mall to start his investigation into what is going on in the town. Case 1-1 - A Dangerous Encounter is the first Case in the game, but this isn't really communicated to you until you start Case 1-2 - Backup for Brad. As such, you play this one a little blind in terms of structure. Having started a new game, you'll enter Willamette via helicopter and get the chance to snap some pictures of the town. Frank will jump out of the helicopter onto the Willamette Parkview Mall's rooftop in a cutscene, then meets Carlito and heads inside into the Security Room. You can examine the coffee cup in the Janitor's Room for a cutscene, then take the long corridor out into the Entrance Plaza.

Out here, you'll find lots of people building a barricade to try and stop the zombies from getting in. You can help them by picking up objects around the Entrance Plaza and stacking them on top of the barricade. Whilst doing so, make sure to take a picture of every person using your Camera, as was taught to you in the introductory cutscene. This will give you a huge headstart on a Trophy for photographing Survivors. There are 11 people to take a picture of in the Entrance Plaza.

Once you have got pictures of them all, approach the benches and bins in the back of the area to trigger a cutscene. The zombies will break in at this point, and the people you've photographed will be eaten alive — don't worry about trying to save them, it's part of the main story that they all die. Frank needs to survive the ordeal, though, so follow the advice of the man in the yellow shirt on the level above and climb the stairs. A cutscene will take you back to the Security Room, where you'll meet Brad, Jessie, and Otis. Again, take pictures of them to work towards the Trophy.

Take the map and transceiver from Otis, then enter the vent to crawl through to the Rooftop. Out here, you'll find Natalie Meyer and Jeff Meyer. Help them reunite — and take their pictures — then open the elevator doors and take it down to the Warehouse. Having talked to Otis on the radio, go down the corridor to Paradise Plaza for another cutscene. This will bring Case 1-1 - A Dangerous Encounter to a close.
