Backup for Brad is Case 1-2 of Dead Rising 1, which makes protagonist Frank go on a rescue mission to help save Brad from Carlito. Following the cutscene with Jessie at the end of Case 1-1 - A Dangerous Encounter, you'll immediately start Case 1-2 - Backup for Brad. She tells you Brad is in trouble in the Food Court, which is in the southwest corner of the mall. Look on your map and you'll see you should head west having left the Warehouse; the problem is there's a shutter blocking the corridor from Paradise Plaza to the Entrance Plaza. Instead, head north and use the exit next to Jill's Sandwiches to head outside to Leisure Park. At this point, Otis should call you to give you your first Scoop, named Cut from the Same Cloth. Since you only have a short time to complete this, we recommend tackling it first and then returning to Case 1-2 - Backup for Brad.

Once Cut from the Same Cloth is complete, get the Submachine Gun in the Entrance Plaza above Kid's Choice Clothing by jumping onto the ledge, accessed by the staircase to the left of the store entrance — it'll be just beyond the big teddy bear at the end. This will be important for later. You can now return to Leisure Park and cross over to the southwest entrance leading to the Food Court. When you reach the crowd of zombies blocking your way to the entrance, head just to the right and kill them all using the Lawnmower.

A cutscene will play once you go inside the Food Court, introducing a boss fight with a Psychopath called Carlito, who you met after jumping off the helicopter at the start of the game.
