For MLB The Show 25, San Diego Studio has massively streamlined the Ballplayer.
In previous years, it was actually quite complicated improving your player, as you needed to tack on all kinds of badges and perform to the game's expectations in order to increase your stats.
That's not the case in this year's game, making for a much smoother experience. But if you're still struggling, this MLB The Show 25 guide will show you how to improve your Ballplayer in Road to the Show.
How Do You Improve Your Ballplayer in Road to the Show in MLB The Show 25?

On this page, we're going to explain everything you need to know about the Ballplayer, including how to create one and how to upgrade its stats.
How to Create a Ballplayer

The first step towards creating a Ballplayer is making one. You can do this by starting a New Game in Road to the Show and selecting a role.
You can choose between the following options:
- Position
- The player who performs in defensive positions in the infield, outfield, or as a catcher.
- Two-Way
- The player who pitches and hits, like notable players Babe Ruth and Shohei Ohtani.
- Pitcher
- The player who throws (pitches) the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter.
Once you've selected a position you can further finetune your role, such as whether you want to be a starting pitcher, a shortstop, or a catcher. Think carefully about your role as it will affect your playstyle.

You'll then be given 50 Tokens to determine your starting attributes. You can choose to upgrade categories such as Contact, Power, Fielding, Throwing, or Baserunning. Or you can finetune each individual aspect, like your Speed or Plate Vision.
If you're not sure what each statistic means, you can refer to our Player Attributes and Terminology glossary.
There's also the option to use presets, which automatically spends your starting tokens on a defined playstyle, like Small Ball, Pure Power, and Utility.
How to Improve Your Ballplayer's OVR Rating

Unlike in past games, MLB The Show 25 makes improving your Ballplayer much easier.
As you progress through Road to the Show, you'll earn XP for completing in-game feats. These can include anything and everything from hitting a home run all the way through to showing discipline at the plate.
As you accumulate XP, you'll earn more Tokens, which can be spent on increasing your attributes. From the Road to the Show main menu, simply navigate to Tools on the top menu layer.
As with the character creator, you can choose to invest into overall areas of your game, like Contact and Power. Or you can finetune which attributes you want to focus on, like Arm Accuracy or Stealing.

While this will improve you Ballplayer's OVR rating, you'll also unlock Perks as you play. These come with their own unique skill trees, which allow you to determine the effectiveness of the Perk and when they trigger. Once again, you'll need to spend Tokens to upgrade your perks.
Finally, while it won't affect your rating, it's important to equip different cosmetic items to your Ballplayer in order to get performance boosts.

From the Road to the Show main menu, select Ballplayer > Equipment to add bats, batting gloves, and more.
These items are graded, with Diamond items giving the best buffs overall. You can acquire new Equipment by purchasing it with Stubs from The Show Shop or you'll earn a free Standard Package for every 10 games in Road to the Show you play.
How to Get Tokens
If you're in desperate need of Tokens to improve your Ballplayer, these can be earned quite easily during gameplay.
- XP
- For every 100 XP you earn, you'll get 1 Token.
- Training
- On days where you don't have a game, you can participate in training drill minigames to earn Tokens.
- Dynamic Challenges
- During key moments in games, you'll be presented with gameplay challenges which will reward you with Tokens.
Ultimately, as long as you're playing the game, you'll be making progress towards Tokens. However, it should be noted you won't get anything for simulating your appearances, so keep that in mind.
