Speaking with Gamasutra, the Microsoft man goes on a corporate gloating attack on the Sony business model claiming "PS3 is heading south" and speculating that the GTAIV DLC, "The Lost & The Damned" outsold Killzone 2.
We're not sure how much of his interview is spin (we suspect much of it, indeed is spin) but what we don't like is Microsoft's conversational focus on the PS3. Ever since last E3 when Microsoft constantly reiterated that they'd "outsell PS3 this generation" we've questioned their PR practices. Do they care about offering a quality product to the cosumer or about getting a leg up on the competition?
Naturally, we understand all businesses (Sony included) need to keep their competitors in close-interest; after all the market benefits from companies trying to "one-up" each other. What we can't help but notice is Microsoft's brazen lack of interest in their own system. If getting a one-up on your competitor means you release hardware a year early with a 33% chance of failure, then we're not entirely sure whether Microsoft talk about themselves when they say the words "hemorrhaging at retail".
Of course, the consumers don't seem to care and they know best. With Micrsoft's year-on-year sales up, who are we to deny them their success.
Perhaps they'd do better talking about their 2009 software lineup, mind. Or the real competitor in this market, the Nintendo Wii. Ahem.
