The game clocks killing sprees, rewards the destruction of entire buildings and has a very fast, ebbing pace to it. Which makes it really fun.
That's not to say it's without it's draws though. While the action seems fast and fluid, the graphics are weak (presumably scaled down to maintain a framerate) and the gunplay is somewhat simple, if not entirely over the top.
You play as Alec Mason, a miner who has rebelled against the Earth Defense Force. The EDF have been kidnapping people, and putting them in forced work camps for their own profit. The game is set in the future and takes place on Mars, which acts as a giant sandbox for various mission types.
The biggest thing about Red Faction's gameplay is the destruction, which literally allows any building to be brought to its knees. Destruction is actually encouraged and it's a real showpiece to the game watching buildings in the distance fall to the ground from the third-person camera angle the game adopts.
Red Faction: Guerilla lacks polish graphically but could turn out to be some great throw-away fun if the mission structure remains varied enough.
