"There's a PS3 redesign abound," they claim; before disappearing into their shell. Anyway - Sony thought it was time to shut up the rumour mill for a while.
Speaking with Kotaku a Sony-rep said:

Simple, straight-to-the-point, efficient - we like it. Besides, whose crazy idea was it to start this rumour in the first place. We don't expect a PS3-Slim for at least another 3 or 4 years.
