The Patent Describes A Way To Turn The Above Into A Piece Of Software.

In fact it's probably news many of us have been waiting to hear for a long while. According to Siliconera, Sony filed a patent last December for software-based emulation of the Playstation 2's emotion engine. Essentially the patent would allow Playstation 2 games to be playable on any Playstation 3.

It's by no means a confirmation of complete Playstation 2 support however. It's possible the patent could refer to downloadable Playstation 2 titles from the PSN. However, the patent suggests that someone, somewhere within Sony is looking into making the Playstation 2 relevent within all Playstation 3s.

And that's pretty awesome.
