2 percent decrease in sales over the period ending September 2009 when compared to last year's figures.
"This decrease," states Sony, "was mainly due to lower VAIO PC and game sales." Sony also claimed that lower PS2 sales alongside the appreciation of the Yen are to blame.
Over the quarter Sony sold 3 million PSPs, down from 3.2 million the year previous. PS2 sales saw a massive drop from 2.5 million in 2008 to 1.9 million in the same period this year. PS3 sales, on the other hand, were up pretty high; jumping from 2.4 million to 3.2 million in the same period.
"An operating loss of ¥58.8 billion ($654 million) was recorded," states Sony, "a deterioration of ¥18.2 billion year-on-year, mainly due to a deterioration in profitability in VAIO PCs and the game business."
There's no doubt the PS2 is now slowing down, but those 1.9 million figures still astound us.
