Heavy Rain: Not As Niche As First Perceived.

But now, not so. Tretton has told FastCompany that Heavy Rain will sell "incredibly well", and he's absolutely right. In fact, from what we're hearing around the world it already is. When the game was announced in 2008, we really did think something like Heavy Rain would be too niche (remember, audience is not indicative of quality - we've always believed in Quantic Dream's vision) to appeal to a wide audience.

The fact that it already appears to be doing great at retail is testament to both a more open-eyed gaming community, and some great marketing from Sony. Yes, for once Sony nailed the marketing of a triple-A exclusive title.

“I spent 25 years in this industry, and it’s rare you see a game that sells incredibly well and that impresses you.

“But when you go, ‘Wow! That’s the type of game I’ve never seen before!’ And I think Heavy Rain falls into that category. I don’t even now how to classify it or describe it.

“I read a review that said it’s the next stage of reading the book. You don’t have to be a gamer at all. I think if you read a book, unless you read the chapters in reverse order, the story is pretty much going to be the same.

“But with Heavy Rain, depending on what you do, you are going to get a different outcome every time.”</blockquote>

It's awesome news for Quantic Dream and the future of more story-led, innovative gaming experiences.
