It was borked. The matchmaking didn't work..
Alas, SEGA's just sent us word that the old demo has been removed, and replaced with a new, working version. Hurrah. So if you want to check out the demo, you totally can now. Just check with this FAQ SEGA's released to make sure you're playing the right version.
