The PlayStation 3 Slim has been a resounding success world-wide, bringing Sony back into the three horse race it had previously been lagging behind. In many ways, that single announcement at GamesCom defined PlayStation's 2009. Yes, there was great software. Yes, there were other big stories. But the GamesCom reveal of the PlayStation 3 Slim was huge.
We're expecting a slightly less important showing from Sony this year, focusing less on enormous hardware relaunches, and more on games. The PlayStation 3's in a competitive position now, and its software line-up remains unparalleled. That's likely to be the focus of Sony's GamesCom press conference, which is scheduled to take place on August 17th at 6:00pm CET (5:00pm BST). Mark your calendars.
Sony's confirmed some of the games they'll be bringing to GamesCom, including Killzone 3, Gran Turismo 5, LittleBigPlanet 2, infamous 2, DC Universe Online, Journey, MotorStorm: Apocalypse, and Sorcery.
We're expecting a lot more information on those listed games. Killzone 3's multiplayer is likely to get a blow-out, as is the feature-set of Gran Turismo 5. Elsewhere, we wouldn't be surprised to see a new PlayStation Move game announcement and some details on Cross-Game Chat. They would be our GamesCom predictions.
Of course, we'll be there to cover all the big news as it breaks. It only feels like days since E3 finished but... Here we go again!
