The USB cable for the PlayStation Eye isn't the most attractive part of the Move set-up; wouldn't a wireless option be so much better? Well yes it would, if it were possible.
Site StrengthGamers contacted a Move developer to ask if a wireless Eye is in development. The response is a tantalising combination of disappointment and hope:
That's actually just not possible. The kind of speed and latency we need can't be done wireless... yet.
Any extra delay introduced into the Move set-up would reduce its effectiveness as a control scheme, so keeping it limited by using USB makes sense. Doesn't make your TV stand look any less cluttered, though.

It's always nice to remove a cable from the dozens used when you have multiple game systems, but at the same time, paying for batteries sucks.
I actually don't see the need for it to be wireless anyway, it would just add extra cost, the cable is long enough and you don't see much of it.
Just wish the PS3 had a USB port on the back for it.
I think a wireless camera is a little bit unnecessary really, but Sony could surely streamline it so it would sit more attractively on top of a HDTV. It's a bit of a "eye"-sore isn't it?
Also a detactable USB cable wouldn't go amiss, then I could easily choose my own length with no need for extensions
I'm surprised they didn't redesign it to coincide with Move - this model's been on the shelves for two years or so now, and the original EyeToy got a much slimmer revamp. Maybe next year they'll bring out a trimmer model, wireless or not.
It does look kind of... big.
@zezhyrule....Why Thank You
If it's not broken don't fix it. The only thing I would like to see is
the re-release of the smaller EyeToy (silver) but in black.
Wireless... nope, but smaller is a definate.
YES, THEY DO NEED A WIRELESS SETUP. I have a projector. I'd have to run 50 feet of USB from the screen to the reciever. Not a big deal, but you need to buy a USB amplifier and you have a long cable attached to a camera that, when not in use, would be an eyesore sitting off to the side. (Can't put it above the projector because its 10 feet up and would be looking at my head not my hands). Also, I'm not too sure about the latency when using one of those amps. Might actually be faster to go wireless.
... and yes, there are hundreds of thousands of people with recievers far from their TV's. Sony totally botched that one up for us.
I too have a projector, where I have a wireless Wii sensor mounted on the wall under the screen and it works Great. I really wanted to get the PS3 move, but the USB cord would have to at least 50 feet, and run it through the walls, ceiling, etc. My screen is on an outside wall, where the ceiling is angled, so getting something down that wall is next to impossible without really tearing some stuff up. If I can't get a wireless eye, it just isn't worth it to me. Playing games in life-size is really fun on the Wii, but I guess I will never know with the PS3 Move.
