fr</a>, Sony Ericsson is to announce the oft-touted "PlayStation Phone" on December 9th. The site touts an invitation to the "most anticipated event of the past 10 years". Other popular websites have corroborated the story.
MobileCrunch in particular has some juicy tid-bits on the new device, explaining that it carries a "mindblowing" retina display screen "on-par" with Apple's iPhone. Apparently Sony's targeting a February release for the device, which backs up similar claims we've heard in recent months.
As we suggested recently, it's sounding more like the device will carry Xperia branding, not PlayStation. VG247 adds that games will cost sub-$10.
The device is actually starting to make sense in our eyes. It's a big plus that it won't carry "PlayStation" branding as that would confuse the market when the PSP2 inevitably releases. As a powerful smartphone with the PlayStation face buttons, it makes a lot of sense though. We're eager to see how this pans out. Most importantly, we're eager to see the games it supports.
