Sony Online Entertainment's free-to-play casual MMO, Free Realms, has long been rumoured for the PlayStation 3, but after years of no information, we'd assumed it was missing in action.
Apparently not though, as Sony Online Entertainment's head honcho John Smedley has told Eurogamer that the game's currently going through the submission process:
"This is in submission at SCEA right now," Smedley revealed of Free Realms PS3. "Once it's done with that, once it's through, we'll be launching it in SCEE.
"If I was a betting man," he added, "I'm betting sometime early February it gets launched on the PS3 in SCEA. And probably, and this is a guess, sometime in March for SCEE. And that will use a free-to-play business model on PS3."
Free Realms has been a bumper success on the PC. We're eager to see how Sony will handle it on the PlayStation 3. Are we set to get another application on the XMB beneath PlayStation Home, or will this require a download from the PlayStation Store? It's all very exciting — one of our favourite things about the PS3 in its current state is the catalogue of content available directly from the hard-drive and PlayStation Network. Free Realms is definitely something we'd jump into between gaming sessions.
