It's Gamescom in Cologne at the moment and we've just heard an interesting rumour: Sony is about to announce a price drop for its PlayStation 3 console alongside a release date for PlayStation Vita.
UK trade retailer MCV posted and quickly rescinded a story claiming the PS3 is set to drop to £199.99 in the UK. Thankfully we grabbed a quick screengrab of the link, though the article itself has been removed from the system.
The console currently retails for around £239.99, so a £40 dip is a significant saving on the current price.
Does MCV know something we don't, and has unwittingly broken an embargo, or was it simply misinformation? We'll bring you the news as we get it.

Yeah, I think that's definitely happening. £199.99 is a great price by the way — and it still gives them more wiggle room in the coming years. The PS3 is still not at mass-market price, which is crazy considering how long it's been around/how many units it's sold.
Any price drop is good for consumers as long as it's not making Sony go bankrupted. Hopefully they still make some money
Phew, glad I didn't buy mine yet!
