Firmware 3.70 will unlock the ability for automatic trophy syncing as well as automatic save uploads to the cloud. When playing a game you'll be asked if you want to automatically upload saves for it and, voila, the PS3 will then do the business at the time you tell it to.
The new features are built into the PS3's Automatic Download feature (now being renamed Automatic Update) which also push demos and trailers onto your system at scheduled times. Honestly, it's not something we intend to use, but the functionality is always appreciated.
There's more to the firmware update than automatic updates however. A new recommendations section of the PlayStation Store will allow you to pimp content to those on your friends list, while the TV section of the XMB is set to get a facelift. We're assuming this means more channels will be announced at GamesCom.
Finally, there have been some improvements to 3D functionality, particularly 3D movie playback.
The firmware's due out today, so be sure to set aside some time today to get it updated.
