Tragically he died of cancer last month at the unfairly premature age of 22. This prompted Michael's friend Carlo — also a big Borderlands fan — to contact Gearbox Software and ask if they could get the game's lovable robot, Claptrap, to read some kind of eulogy. Touchingly Gearbox did, and has also promised to include Mamaril in Borderlands 2 as an NPC.
It's not the first time Gearbox has gotten deeply involved in the Borderlands community. Earlier in the year it used Claptrap to help a man propose to his girlfriend.
Rest in peace Michael.
