According to UK retail site MCV, we'll see a new PlayStation console revealed at this year's E3.
High-level — though anonymous — executives have told MCV the June reveal would prove to third parties it wouldn't get left behind. PlayStation 3 lost considerable ground to Xbox 360 by launching a year after its rival — even longer in Europe.
With Nintendo's Wii U heading for E3 2012 in a big way, can Sony steal some of its thunder?

E3 can't get here soon enough.
I'm really curious to see how powerful it will be, and how it stacks up against the competition. It's already been said that PS will not be taking the same leap it did with PS2 to PS3 (they're not ready to take those same financial losses, or leave developers struggling with new tech). Is it going to be a PS3.5 in way of tech? It's sad, really. This is the first generation that consoles will be moving on before the full potential of the platform will be utilized.
While I understand their need to keep up with Nintendo's console release, we've hardly touched what it's capable of. I think the current generation will be a great learning lesson for all companies, and how reaching too far can really hurt.
In either case, I'm excited about the next gen and can't wait to see what PS dazzles us with!
