To introduce you to the team we've put together here at Push Square, we asked each team member for two PS3 games they considered absolutely essential. Here, Nathan Michalik from our US review team tackles Cole McGrath and a two-for-one RPG epic.

inFAMOUS

inFAMOUS

inFAMOUS was one of the first PS3 games to flex this generation’s graphical muscles, backing it up with a profound story that gives the player control over decisions throughout the game.

The game starts abruptly: Cole MacGrath survives a massive explosion, with little explanation as to what caused it or how he survived. The story unfolds as you discover you’ve somehow obtained the ability to control electricity.

Surely the game’s biggest hook is the morality system: good or evil, your actions alter the story, giving players responsibilities for certain actions and sparking real emotion from a video game. Another feature uncommon in this generation of gaming is the amount of ambiguity in the storyline, allowing individuals to experience different emotions and beliefs as to what is really happening in the town of Empire City.

Even years after its release, inFAMOUS can hold its own in comparison to the graphics, gameplay and story of new release games. Overall, it is a title so shockingly good that nearly anyone can pick it up and enjoy zapping some enemies. If you enjoy stories and own a PlayStation 3, you owe it to yourself to give this classic exclusive a try.

White Knight Chronicles II

White Knight Chronicles II

When it comes to exclusive RPGs on the PS3 with deep stories, huge worlds and rich multiplayer, look no further than White Knight Chronicles II. Players take the role of their own fully customisable character and join Leonard and his party of friends to continue where White Knight Chronicles left off.

On the journey there will be huge boss fights, new friends and more gear than you’ll be able to keep track of. You’ll embark on a journey to save a princess which might sound clichéd and overdone, but the complexity of the characters and their past as well as a few plot twists will help keep you playing through all hours of the night.

The combat system is a mix between real time combat and turn based combat. Characters can use a huge arsenal of weapons at will and level up which weapon skills as they see fit, leading to many different play styles and roles in single player and multiplayer.

The multiplayer aspect allows gamers to take their characters from the single player game and play with up to five friends doing various multiplayer exclusive quests. Another innovative feature is the GeoRama: a fully customisable town that each player can control and improve, each GeoRama can either be used as a simple lobby to hang out or a marketplace for people to buy and farm goods.

Not only will players get to experience White Knight Chronicles II, but included on the disc is a remastered version of the original White Knight Chronicles in its entirety. Each game can easily last over 100 hours single player or multiplayer, making this title the bargain of the century for RPG fans.
