Budding Twitter critics rejoice: Sony’s announced a new firmware update for the PlayStation 3. The minor – dare we say meaningless – download bumps the hardware up to version 4.11 and brings with it improvements to “certain aspects of [the] system software”. Not a lot, then.
Bizarrely, the update’s optional in North America and mandatory in Europe. We’re not sure why there’s the discrepancy between regions.
Still, we look forward to reading the inevitable exaggerated Twitter posts on our timeline. No, it does not take five hours to download and install a PS3 firmware update. Stop whining.

They're still annoying, especially when they're mandatory and seemingly (as in on the surface for gamers) pointless, as they often are.
Have any of these whiny babies ever played an Xbox 360 while connected to the internet? Every time you put in a game, another seemingly meaningless update HAS to be downloaded in order to play. Heck, I've had to download 3 updates in a day for a single game alone. Now THAT'S annoying. I find that Sony's way is much more tolerable. :3
This one seems to have added the PS3 web browser improvements that they CLAIMED had been added in 4.10. Sure loads a lot faster for me now, at any rate.
I don't mind having to frequently update the firmware, but when I download an update (4.10) on one day and have to download a second one on the next it IS a bit annoying. Anyway, downloaded and installed last night.
@fchinaski It is annoying, don't get me wrong, I do agree. But some people do love to exaggerate about the process.
@get2sammyb Sure, I understood your point and I also agree!
The irritation of these constant updates is inversely proportional to your internet speed.
Drat and I just updated my PS3 last week! Well guess its time to steal the internet from my desktop for a bit.
@chiptoon- true story, bro
